Jose Muldoon's Ratings and Reviews
Fabulous meal that never fails to please in all the years I've eaten there, 6 yrs ago, 8 yrs ago and when I lived in town... several times a month. It's always been my choice restaurant whenever I'm in Colorado Springs for myself and to impress my guests. The best food on the front range.
I visit Jose Muldoon's often. This visit was at the downtown location which I don't often do and there was a big difference in service here. Our waitress seemed rude throughout our meal. I say she seemed rude as opposed to saying that she was rude, because it was a general attitude and the way she spoke to us that could possibly be interpreted differently. I am not sure it was her intent. However, it did not make for pleasant interactions with her. Having said that, the food was really good as usual. We went for Sunday Brunch and I had the Colorado omelet and my wife had the cheese omelet. Both were really good.
The food was pretty good here, nice and Tex-Mex. Unfortunately, the server just couldn't keep up and also entered three of our orders incorrectly. One we had to send back. Drinks were only refilled after asking twice. The server did try to make up for the issues by giving us free dessert and was very apologetic which helped a lot. Good food but could use better table management like how many tables one server gets to increase the service.
Food was ok. Husband had a combo platter with no complaints. I chose a grilled chicken platter with seasonal grilled vegetables and lime rice. Chicken was tender and juicy and very flavorful but vegetables were very mushy. Chips and salsa very good as well. Server was attentive but seemed to have multiple jobs. We were there at a quiet time so hopefully she had more help as the evening progressed.
The restaurant was as advertised. Casual but great food. The meals we had were wonderful made with fresh ingredients and of high quality. We really enjoyed our time at the restaurant. If you are looking for a casual restaurant with high quality TexMex entrees this is the place to go.
I used to be into the downtown scene. I even lived there for a number of years. I moved a little north to raise a family and get away from the hustle and bustle that I like. Now the kids are older and we have been making dining downtown more of a weekly affair. I remember happy hour at Jose's to be quite a treat. The food is okay, not much different than what I remember. Nothing against that. The value is what I expect for a downtown experience. I love sitting out on the patio. We sat at the front patio. It was great. It wouldn't have made a difference if we sat at the back patio. But I gotta tell you the house margarita was horrible. I don't remember those being that bad. We even ordered a second one just to make sure it was indeed that bad and it was. Next time I'll have a Coor's Light.
Our early evening dinner was fantastic. Loved the downtown atmosphere. We especially appreciated the gluten free menu options. Our server was very knowledgeable about gluten free options and the kitchen would prepare almost anything from the menu, gluten free! Our food tasted sensational!
Visited on a Sunday. Sat on porch which was pleasant. Server was very attentive and nice. Food was rather bland, beginning with the salsa. My husband and daughter both ordered dishes with the hotest green chili and found it with minimal heat. I ordered vegetarian enchiladas and while they had good ingredients, they too were bland. Would love to taste some fire roasted flavors, but none. Expected more from this place and it failed to deliver.
I go here every Tuesday for Taco Tuesday. The tacos are pretty good and the house margarita's are awesome. Sitting on the patio is the best, but there's definitely a chance of getting burned.
The only complaint I have is about the hosts. Literally every time I go in they stare at me or they just ignore me until I walk up to them. Unless you're a cute dude, they'll state, "Can I help you." And if you ask for anything like a booth or sitting on the patio they'll get an attitude.
They "forgot" to put our group of five on the waitlist, so everyone that came after us went first. I've sat there while four hosts stood at the podium gossiping and their manager had to force some of them to clear tables, and they rolled their eyes and complained.
Honestly, I love this place. I'm a server and host, so I respect everything they do. But I also know not to act like a brat. All in all, I would recommend going. Just be warned about the hosts (there are like two nice ones).
We had an overall good visit to Jose Muldoon's. Our waitress was very friendly and did a great job with our kids. Food was great too. Only issue was that when we finished our meal and were ready to pay our bill, our waitress was no where to be found. With 2 little kids who needed to get to bed we had a low threshold for wanting to linger. My husband eventually went to the bar and paid there. It was an unfortunate end to an otherwise nice evening.
We've gone to Taco Tuesday the past three weeks in a row, and always enjoy it - even our 2 year old has a great meal. Service is particularly quick on Tuesdays given the flood of patrons, show up early and get happy hour prices for drinks too! Highly recommended, will be going back again this week.
