Jose and Sons
"Intentionally or not, with the opening of Jose and Sons the Ibarras have also created a gastronomic symbol for the cultural melting pot that our region is increasingly becoming."
"Painted around the base of the bar, in large block capital letters, are the words “HECHO EN RALEIGH.” I can’t think of a more suitable motto for a restaurant that embodies the best of our rapidly evolving local dining scene."

Excellent service.Great food!
We have eaten here as a family on several occassions, and the food and service have always been consistently excellent. The menu is smaller than average I would say, but it does have some interesting seasonal variations. If you are looking for a Cheesecake Factory, 20 page menu...then not the place. If you are looking for a modest number of creative, excellently prepared and nicely plated dishes...then give it a try.
Our waitress was an absolute sweetheart, she really took time to explain menu choices and checked on us regularly. The bar also made me a great g & t. Unfortunately the food did not live up to the service, there was nothing wrong with it but it was just not exciting nor worth the price. We had guac, cumin meatballs, shrimp ceviche, and barbacoa tacos. Nothing was particularly flavorful and the ceviche was basically just some cold shrimp mixed up with cherry tomatoes. We love the sister restaurant The Cortez and were really disappointed with the food at Jose and Sons. Also, we were seated at the back behind the bar and next to the alcove with the restrooms, there was an unpleasant smell the whole time, which I felt was sewage and my dining partner said was coming from the bar kegs.
Sat outside for brunch. Just a few outside tables. Good Latin American food,
The three of us shared the "Familia" entree; plenty enough food for us. Surprisingly the chicken was the hit; the steak was OK but not as flavorful; the pork chop least liked. There were sides of black beans, rice, kale salad and corn on the cob; all delicious. We also ordered brussels sprouts, which all loved, and marguerites. The music and ambiance were nice and we will definitely be back.
I wanted to love this place, and was excited to try it because of all the good reviews, however we left disappointed for both the food and the service . We had a reservation on saturday evening, and got there 10 minutes earlier, the hostess sat us at the bar area which we were not happy about it but thought it's weekend night, they might need to save the tables for big parties. The food was just okay, chicarron and waffle is unique, it's fun to crack the runny eggs on top of the pork belly and corn waffle, however the concept sounds more appealing than the taste, the pork belly was not bad but a little greasy, the waffle was soggy and too sweet, not a good combination to my tastebud. The Mac n cheese was way too thick and dry, lost its creamy cheesy taste. The server didn't show up much, never offered us hot sauce or condiments as we like. Overall, this place was just okay, not worth the hype.
Had a reservation for 6 at8pm and was not seated until 8:45. Was told from the time i walked in that my table was being cleaned off “right now”....for 40 minutes. Ordered grilled fish tacos and received grilled chicken. Decided to keep them for the sake of time and bit in to what I thought was crunchy cabbage, but discovered it was small bones.
We had a delicious meal for a lunch date. Service was great and the food was delicious! My only complaint is that the whiskey barrel tables, albeit nice to look at, are VERY uncomfortable to sit at.
This was our third time to Jose and Sons and we were disappointed. We brought friends that traveled all the way from CA. It took 10+ minutes to be seated even though there were 6 open tables, 10 minutes for someone to greet us and then 15 minutes to get our drinks. They were obviously short staffed. our server was very pleasant (Carolyn) but she could not make up for the poor hosting staff and slow drink and food time. The food was good, we were not impressed by the chile relleno, but I have to say we won't be back anytime soon.
We were excited to try Jose and Sons because of its good reviews, but we were disappointed by the food. The ceviche tostada was sliced shrimp with tortilla chips. We also got the relleno and while it was pretty good, we didn't feel the need to finish it. The flautas were ok as were the fish tacos. We also tried the watermelon margarita and the old fashioned, both delicious.
The decor and vibe were great though, so I'd be back for drinks but probably not dinner.
Food and drinks were great. The server was extremely quick in trying to push us out of the restaurant.
Food was delicious and service was great! Will be going back for sure!
We had excellent service! The food and drink was delicious and great portion sizes. It wasn’t a loud restaurant so great for conversation and connecting with friends.
So happy to have found this gem near home. The menu is so unique and the food was excellent. Our server was helpful with questions. Definitely date and occasion worthy!
We were visiting Raleigh from New Orleans for a family wedding. We were staying downtown and wanted a place within walking distance. The service was great. The server helped with selection of kids menu for the toddlers in our party. Food was plentiful and delicious. Will be on our list for a return trip.
Amazing food! We had the Gouda Mac n’ cheese with the brussel sprouts to start and it was absolutely amazing! We probably didn’t even need to order dinner because the appetizers were hearty! Margaritas were also fantastic! We highly recommend Jose and sons!
Food extremely hot. I sent it back and the waiter suggested something else which was also very spicy. I gave up after that and was still charged. Cocktails were fantastic. I would maybe go back but only for drinks
Good food and great service. Noise level was very high as there were a ton of people screaming at the tv for a sporting event which isn’t what you look forward to at 11am Sunday morning.
My friend and I were in town for a few days and we decided to see what all the fuss over Jose and Sons was about (another friend of ours lives in the area and is always praising the restaurant). From the get-go, things were great! The space is bright and cheerful, the service was outstanding, and the food... YUUUUMMMM, THE FOOD! We decided to pick a few dishes from the small plates section : Chicken Flautas, Barbacoa with Jalapeño Crema, and Pinto Cheese Tostones, all of them were absolutely delicious! Every morsel was flavorful and rich and we could not stop eating! All that, and the fresh chips and salsa were to die for. I would highly recommend coming here. I can see now what all the great fuss was about!
Great food and a creative menu; interior has a terrific vibe; service was excellent. Definitely planning to return next time in in town.
Great food but if you are expecting typical mexican this is not it. Very good and tasty
Ordered a pina colada, that was out, ordered a Pepsi, and that was out. Not the best Mexican or southern food
Went for lunch with business colleagues. Seating was quick and service was prompt and attentive at least until it was time to go. Menu had a good selection and prices were around the 9 -12 range which is pretty much standard downtown. On two items that were not a hit was trying to get our bill which we finally got the hostess to help us with and finding a parking place requires a bit of luck. If you are walking from an office its great, if you are driving in, have walking shoes on.
Spicey food but we enjoy it! The gauc is some of the best we've ever had and we're snobs about our guac..
Service was horrible. We were the only table in the restaurant and food & drinks took forever. Will never go back
We went with another couple and had a great time. The restaurant is pretty noisy, but the whole atmosphere is pretty energetic, so that didn't bother us. The cocktails were delicious. Our favorite dishes were the street corn and the barbacoa.
just yummy every time... Cerviche... on point.. ambiance is so comfy and inviting.. can't wait to go back...
We go here once or twice a year and always enjoy the food. Enough changes in the menu to offer a variety for those visits. The service is always excellent!
Great place and food
Visiting from Philadelphia and looking to relocate, this is a gem for quality, taste, and atmosphere. Well done Jose and Sons! 3 of us split the La Familia plate plus guacamole. It was enough for everyone plus lunch the next day for another person. Great taste and service. We’ll be back when we move for sure!
Good food, creative Mexican cuisine and really good cocktails! We’ll certainly be back.
My wife slipped and fell in the restroom and the wait staff who witnessed it didn't bother to help. The food was unappetizing. The skirt steak was tough and looked like road kill and overall the food looked like something that was thrown together in 30 seconds out of a can. The shrimp and grits had way to much corn and not enough shrimp. The waiter was not very attentive and the restaurant was not very busy at all. The food was way overpriced. We will not be going back to Jose and sons. I also would not recommend it to anyone.
What a treat this was! Our server (Alana, I think? I'm the worst with names and always lose my receipts!) was amazing: she was knowledgeable, personable and even when they got a late rush during Sunday brunch, still maintained fantastic service. Honestly, every person we interacted with (various servers clearing dishes or dropping off food, the hostesses) was polite and kind, which speaks well that everyone was in good spirits on a Sunday morning! Our reservation was at 12:45pm; we were attending a show at the performing arts center at 2 pm and we made it with time to spare!
The food was incredible as well. Everyone in our party finished every bite and enjoyed trying each other's plates (my mother, who is hard to impress, LOVE the flautas!). Their menu is unique and delicious, whoever is in charge really knows their stuff! We had two cocktails that were crisp and refreshing, perfect for the humid weather that day, but it was hard to settle on just one!
I wanted to stop and thank the manager but it looked like he was jumping in to help with the rush, so here is my thank you to the staff that day! Our experience was incredible and we cannot wait to come back!
Brunch was fantastic. Nice portions, well prepared, stellar service.
okay: just a weird menu! a few traditional items might be good - only one (1) taco? give me a break!
We dined for Mother’s Day brunch and our reservation was honored on time. Service was sub-par. Unlike my previous experiences, this server was not friendly or pleasant. This is my 3rd time dining here and the food is consistently good.
It was unique food. Combines Mexican dishes with Southern flare. Craft beer was good. That night they had a Latin International dance party after hours so that was fun but got too crowded after midnight and couldn’t even dance without getting stepped on literally so we left. Great bar service. Waiter was a little rude at first but changed when he saw my husband’s reaction. Overrall a good experience.
As always, great food and excellent staff. Can’t say enough about this place. If you haven’t been, you need to stop in and try it. Love the barbacoa prepped with beer from Crank Arm brewery next door.
fantastic fresh mexican food - very attentive waiter
