We dined at Jo’s on vacation and were pleasantly surprised how quaint it is. It has two stories and 2 levels of outdoor dining. There was live music in the downstairs bar. They had a pre fix menu for 20.00 that was excellent. I had the bourbon glazed salmon served with bulgar wheat. The atmosphere was quiet so it was easy to have a conversation. Excellent service, food and drinks. Highly recommended. Walkable quiet neighborhood away from the chaos of the wharf area.
Very enjoyable dining experience. Delicious food, especially the sides-Brussels sprouts with bacon and sweet mashed potatoes. Staff was attentive . Great value with the prixe fixe dinner.
the evening started with a warm welcome at check in. our server was a top notch professional, just the right amount of professionalism, along with the right amount of personal attention.
he recommended both of our appetizers, as well as the main course. we couldn't have picked better meals ourselves. the food and service was top notch. can't wait to go back.
i highly recommend Jo's American Bistro, which is in the heart of Newport, but just off busy Thames.
I decided to take my sister here for her birthday. Walking through the restaurant I had a good first impression. The ambiance and vibe was pleasant. But almost as soon as we were seated in the upstairs outdoor seating we both felt like we were on display. Our waiter was a little too attentive and we felt like he came over to us every five seconds. I don’t think there is anything wrong with that normally but sometimes you want more privacy and this was one of those times. Our waiter was nice but something was off. The food was very good but very pricey. I would go again but ask to be seated inside to avoid that feeling of being exposed again.
Friend's birthday dinner, food was excellent. Atmosphere was lively! Just a great experience.
First trip to Jo's American Bistro and I loved it. We all had something different: swordfish for me, steak for my husband and lobster carbonara for my friends. Spicy shrimp and steamed buns were delicious!
Go for the steamed littleneck clams! Broth was so rich and so good with the warm sourdough bread served alongside. The waiter gave us all the bread we wanted to slop up the remaining goodness. We split the Lobster Roll and the Bacon Onion Jam Burger. Both were outstanding! We would definitely go back for more next time we're visiting Newport.
Our anniversary dinner was calm and like very!
The scallops were some of the best we have ever had! So well done! We will definitely go again when in NewportRI
We love Jo's. The food is always exceptional, and this time, the portions were huge! We were there for a special occasion with friends and it did not disappoint. Often we will go sit at the bar and get a few appetizers or a salad and burger to split. They are always very nice, service is great and the food is wonderful. One of our favorite spots. We tried the lobster and duck quesadilla, new item, and it was delicious and large. Could have eaten for my meal not just an appetizer.
Wish there was a bigger dance floor. The music was great!
Jo’s is one of our favorites in town. The steak frites, blue cheese wedge, cocktails are among the best anywhere. Amazing friendly service.
Consistently good food and friendly service
Great bar music...jazz guitar. Great Sunday bar menu
The food was fresh, the atmosphere charming, and away from the craziness of the wharf, but still walking distance from everywhere. I’d recommend anything seafood. The salads were vibrant with color and taste, and the lobster bisque had huge chunks of lobster. We will definitely go back.
Truly a superb restaurant. Great service & splendid food. A perfect convergence of the most important elements one desires in a perfect dining experience.
A terrific find! Outstanding in every respect! Wonderful seared scallops and wedge salad!
we have been to Jo's a number of times, and is usually one of our favorites. But this evening was really not up to what we have seen before. The restaurant was terribly warm...the wait staff did not get straight that we wanted appetizer first to share for table...salads next...then dinner after salads done. Appetizer too a while, then they delivered the salads at same time as dinner and before we finished appetizer. Just was a really off night and not up to standards we expect from Jo's. However, one thing that concerns us is that the last 3 times we have dined there the temperature in the restaurant is not correct. It seems to go from extremes of too warm to chilly. all that said, we will continue to dine there, but do hope they will address these issues soon
Service was outstanding. Food was very good. Cocktails were excellent as well. Staff was friendly and accommodating.
I am a frequent diner at Jo’s and have never had a bad meal! I have tried every dish and I keep going back. The quality of the food, the ambience and the staff are always consistently good!
I really appreciate the selection of entrees and starters for the special Monday to Wednesday pre-fixed dinners which also includes a glass of wine. Service is good and friendly.
Food was bad and Managemt did not handle the situation properly.
Great atmosphere, not too loud, which was perfect because my friend and I could catch up.
LaForge on a par, with better prices. Not up with Cooke House, 22 Bowens, etc.
The food is great. Love the decor and the live music
Reasonably priced generous portions. Quality ingredients. Creative diverse menu to satisfy different palates.
Great menu and friendly staff make Jo's the Cheers of Newport!
Jo's was EXCELLENT! We arrived for our reservation and the table was already waiting for us. Our server Josh provided wonderful service and explained all of our menu options. We ordered the duck breast and the pork chop and both were incredible!! Easily one of the best restaurants in Newport for their service, quality of food and portion size. 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
Great food and service! Second time visiting and was never disappointed! Highly recommended.
We went midweek and decided to try the price fixe. The salad was delicious and the wine choices were adequate. The entrees were very small. I ordered the pasta and shrimp. The pasta portion was small and it was served with 3 shrimp. My husband ordered the pork loin. His entree consisted of 2 boneless pork slices and shredded Brussels sprouts . If this is the normal entree then the portions are definitely overpriced. If this was a smaller portion to accommodate the price fixe menu then it is really not a bargain. Having been forewarned I would suggest this restaurant as the food was delicious and the staff was friendly and the atmosphere is pleasant.
We were on vacation and had been recommended to come to this restaurant as it was referred to as “great for dinner!” The food and the wait staff was impeccable. The entire staff couldn’t have been more friendly or helpful to us while we were there.
Food was DELICIOUS and atmosphere was AMAZING! All in all a truly great night at Jo’s!
Nice restaurant, service good, so were the rolls, salad and the steak frites, would return.
We tried Jo's while visiting Newport. The restaurant is appropriately lit, clean, cheerful and for an off season Sunday evening I was surprised that they had a good turn out. The dining room opens into the bar and there was live music appropriate for dinner background ambiance. My husband chose the prix fixe option and enjoyed a nicely seasoned creamy clam chowder and seared salmon on farro and greens with a glass of wine included. The portion was generous. I had a delicious tossed salad with grilled shrimp. All the salad items were very fresh and the salad dressing was delicious and perfectly proportioned. Our waiter was very attentive and personable. I had noted a birthday on our reservation but did not say whose birthday. Somehow our waiter determined correctly it was my husband's birthday and brought him creme brulee on the house to end a lovely evening. We will definitely come again when we are in Newport.
I very nearly avoided this place because the name sounded so similar to a ubiquitous chain, but I'm glad I didn't. The ambiance is nice, with dark wood, soft lighting, and plenty of space so you don't feel crammed in. We ate at one of their two bars. Lobster bisque was served with a few ounces of real chunk lobster at the center, as well as fresh baked rolls. We shared a great salad, and also a spicy shrimp appetizer. It was within walking distance of the inn we stayed at near the Cliff Walk, so that was a bonus. I would recommend, and I would return.
Hospitable, good food, fair prices, great ambiance... what more can you want?
Some Jazz... on Sunday nights, I think!
What a find! Great food, service, drinks, and music! I am only saddened that, I as a local, will not have regular access to this wonderful spot after tourists come and parking is limited.
Great food, friendly/efficient service and beautiful live music! Fun evening with friends. We’ll be back soon :)
The food was great the service amazing .. Finn was fabulous .. Great g f menu very accommodating .. The food was very well prepared this will be an every visit go too .. very reasonably priced. Also special in sunday monday menu for the value person. 👍👍
Wonderful butternut ravioli best I’ve ever had
Great small cozy atmosphere & delightful waitress
Looking forward to next visit
Environment was nice and the seating was comfortable. There is plenty of space between you and the next party. The food was fine but wouldn’t rush to come back here. Service was OK - maybe just because it was restaurant week they weren’t as attentive to the customer. Felt like I was rushed out at the end of my new.
