Had a great dinner here with my son who is gluten free. Husband and I had delicious lobster rolls. Staff was very attentive and great drink special, pinapple infused vodka. Son had steak with bacon cheddar mashed potatoes. Yum!

Great little restaurant away from the wharf in the seclusion of late 18th century Newport. Menu, food and service were all outstanding. Prefix menu was a real bargain. Chef presentation more like fine dining than bistro dining. Closing at 9 pm is only downside for vacationers looking for later dinner.

I had dinner at Jo's last Sunday evening, and the food was amazing. I had a duck and lobster quesadilla as an appetizer, mostly because I had never had that combination before, and it blew me away. The food was well prepared and seasoned, and foodies will enjoy this restaurant.

Stopped here for dinner while in town for the jazz fest. The restaurant is not on the waterfront but on a side street about three blocks from the waterfront. Service was good , we had a reservation and we were seated promptly. We were seated in upstairs dining room which was small but nicely decorated. The waiter was prompt - he took our drink order, explained the specials and within minutes we had hot rolls and butter on the table. For appetizers my husband raved about their clam chowder. I had the southern fried chicken bites which were a bit over cooked and dry. For our entrees my husband had the Lobster carbonara and I had the grilled shrimp over risotto both were very delicious.
Over all a great place to eat cost was reasonable and food was quite good.

i have been here a few times and I now know it all depends on what you order. Service was great but I ordered Fish and Chips and the fish was awful so all i can say is don't order that. Everyone else at our table seemed pleased with their dishes (and I have been happy with what I ordered in the past). Just a bad day for fish and chips (although the chips were fine).

I was disappointed that there was only one vegetarian option on the menu. A family upstairs had three small children and they were very loud. Our food was delicious, but a little expensive. A dish of 6 raviolis was $24 and that included nothing else.

Laid back atmosphere with above average food. Everything we ordered tasted good but there were no WOW moments, hence the 4 stars. Everyone tries hard to please yet somehow service falls just a bit short, hence the 4 stars.

We had a family dinner with three people. Chose to come here from the ratings it received. We arrived and our greeting hostess was really great, so friendly! We were expecting the rest of the evening to have that same welcoming and great feeling. We were wrong.
The waitress was nice, but there was lack of service explaining the specials. We had another server who didn't know how to clear the table or to refill our water glasses. I ordered a Shirley Temple and it was the worst drink I have ever had! It didn't have any ginger ale or a cherry even. And my daughters drink had an over abundance of alcohol. Our desserts were not the greatest either. The owner even came over and took our order for dessert, probably sensing there was lack of service. And they ran out of my dessert. High expectations, and not the greatest dinner. Too bad. We have eaten hear before with a way better time.

Bag of crab cakes were disappointing- nothing more than fritters without any appreciable clams. The remaining meal was very good. Would go again

Overall, the place was satisfactory. For what I paid, it was nothing out of the ordinary. I guess it goes with the price in the area. The service was very good and there are very few complaints about it. The food was average though, nothing out of the ordinary.

We were seated right away but a very welcoming hostess. We sat for awhile before being greeted by our waitress. It then took awhile to finally place our order. Two women in my party ordered the clam chowder and was not offered crackers even though we saw them on the waitress station. Took a while for cocktail to come out. Another had a salad, which didn't seem to have any dressing on it (it was creamy and was not visible nor tasted) so asked for some. Myself and another ordered the salmon medium which came out raw in the center and was sent back. Piece was just reheated and put on our plate (which is fine, I get not wasting food). Sauce on salmon left something to be desired. Our waitress was responsible for clearing tables, setting them up, as well as serving which I find to be too much on a Saturday night. Wish she had more support.

Overall the food was subpar as well as the service. Would not recommend, would not return.

Jo's was excellent. I would highly recommend going there if you visit Newport, RI. Make sure to make a reservation well in advance as it gets booked very quickly. Our server was extremely knowledgable and attentive. The food was exceptional. You won't be disappointed.

Good experience and value for being in Newport. The Calamari was excellent. Pasta dish was really good. Fish, while tasty, was a bit undercooked and couldn't eat the middle portion. Cheesecake was a very good ending to the meal.

Very good food, waiter had a difficult night, but very friendly and helpful. Noise should be dampened by some sound absorption because it was so noisy that it was hard to carry on a conversation--the chief reason for dining out with old friends/relatives. Lobster bisque excellent and the green salad. Bread pudding too heavy

Great food but not great service. our waitress was not very attentive. The tables next to us ordered after us and got their for good first. Plus their waiter stopped by 3 times during the meal while ours was nowhere to be found.
The food was great so will definitely give it another chance
