Jo's American Bistro
5:00pm - 10:00pm Friday and Saturday
Lunch Saturday and Sunday 12:00-3:30
Stumbled on this place and had a lovely meal. Atmosphere was slightly lacking but maybe it was because it was out of season
Warm welcome, brilliant service with proper explanation of drinks, meal ingredients and reccommendating...
Great options and variety on menu, staff was knowledgeable and attentive. Wine list had some real gems and reasonable, well matched with food offerings. Again staff followed up and were happy we were happy 👍
Service is Always the best. The salmon was perfect.
Had dinner at Jo's with family members 4 times over the past 18 months and the food and service each time was excellent. Good wine selection and friendly staff. The grilled pork chop, butternut squash ravioli, salmon, seared scallops and hummus platter are all highly recommended. Whenever we're in the Newport area we make it a point to have dinner at Jo's.
Best Burger! We don't usually do reviews but, these burgers were so good we had to share
This past Sunday we enjoyed our first visit to Jo’s American Bistro. I say “our first visit” because there is no doubt that we’ll return the next time we visit Newport, RI.
The quality, flavor and presentation of the food were fantastic! Our friend ordered the deconstructed Oysters Rockefeller followed by the Lobster Carbonara, which she adored. My husband was over the moon while enjoying his remarkably elegant Four-Cheese Penne. And my Grilled Pork Chop was incredibly tender, juicy and flavorful, topped with sinfully delicious bacon-onion jam and accompanied by surprisingly yummy shaved brussels sprouts and mashed sweet potatoes. We ordered a sumptuous cinnamon peach bread pudding to share (we were all quite full but couldn’t resist). It arrived with a lit candle and, we discovered, was complimentary in honor of our friend’s birthday. Such a kind and lovely surprise!
Our server, Olivia, was outstanding - smart, efficient, attentive, extremely personable (without being intrusive) and professional. The bus person, whose name I unfortunately didn’t catch, was also friendly and fast. We had an early reservation (5:00 PM), since we needed to drive back to Boston afterward. Our mansion tour had ended sooner than we anticipated, so we arrived at the restaurant quite early (prior to opening time). The owner (I think) graciously allowed us to come in and wait st the bar. He even took a drink order for us (the bartender was not yet on duty). When the bartender and one of the servers arrived, we had a delightful chat with them as well while waiting for 5:00 PM so we could head upstairs to our table.
We’re already looking forward to coming back the next time we’re in Newport. Very highly recommended!
Exactly what we were looking for on the last night of our weekend in Newport. Good food, wine and service. The oysters Rockefeller are a must!
The steamed littlenecksand their sauce were delicious. Scallops, pork chop and bacon-onion-jam burgers were our entree choices - all excellent
Great live music and half price bar menu on Friday and Sunday night. What a great Friday night. Great food great time.
Good food and good menu selection. We liked the clam cakes, the duck/lobster quesadilla and the butternut squash ravioli. Burgers looked great coming out of the kitchen. Good bread. Good beer list. Service was earnest but nothing special.
Great meal! Large portions. Pan seared scallops were really good.
Great service..delicious food .....nice wine and fresh hot bread!
We’re on holiday from the UK and found Jo’s very good. Atmosphere was convivial, service pleasant and food good quality and interesting - longneck clams are new to me and were delicious followed by a very tasty steak. Would recommend
Great food!!! Better than I remembered from 2 yrs ago. Loved the band!!!!
Awesome time at Jo's this past Saturday night! The server K was excellent and she couldn't have been nicer. She really made the night--plus the amazing food! I got the filet-mignon with 'oscar' addition
( Lobster/asparagus/sauce) and it was outstanding. My partner had the duck and it was superb. The appetizer we got was the antipasto platter and we took some home because there was so much. Nicely cured meats and cheeses. Consistently great food, no hassles, awesome staff and very welcoming. My type of place.
We go to Newport several times a year. This restaurant is a great place to stop
In my opinion this place lacks ambiance especially upstairs where we were sat alone
The staff was very personable and accommodating. Food was great! Very nice wine list.
Went here for graduation dinner. It was good. 10 out of 10 would recommend.
The price fixe menu sun-wed is an excellent value. Everything was delicious
What a great place to dine, we always go back when we are in Newport!
The food is bountiful & delicious.
Don’t miss the Bread pudding with peaches & carmel sauce , outstanding!
My wife and I tried Joes for the first time as we were in town for the Newport Boat Show. Deconstructed Oysters Rockefeller a must have! Shrimp dish over bacon risotto was delicious as well as the pan seared scallops. Waiter (Pierson) was very attentive as well as helpful. A great find!
Food was great and wait staff was good. Stood at the bar for 15 minutes prior to getting seated and never got a drink.
The Restaurant was so charming and the food was outstanding! Put it on your must go to restaurant when in Newport Rhode Island!
Great spot to meet friends for dinner. Service was attentive but not rushed. Food was very good...recommend the pan roasted cod!
Anniversary dinner, we showed up a little late for reservation and they were so accommodating.
My wife and daughter and I had dinner at Jo's Bistro last Saturday evening to celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary. The service was exceptional from the moment we arrived and the food was tasty and delicious. It was a wonderful dining experience that helped to make our special occasion very special.
This was our first time dining at this wonderful restaurant in downtown Newport. We went to Jo's because my wife was in the mood for a burger and I was looking for finer dining. Fortunately, this restaurant could meet both of our needs. The atmosphere is perfect - casual, but classy. My wife loved her burger and the scallops were the best I've had in Newport. The by-the-glass wine list was excellent, and my wife's cocktail was generously-sized. The dessert, bread pudding, was scrumptious. I would add that it was a pleasure to be greeted by the owner of the restaurant when we arrived. We can't wait to go back.
Decent food, very very loud, begrudging service with a lot of attitude. Would never come back.
We tried Jo's for the first time on Thursday night. Wow. They've thought about the dining experience and deliver it flawlessly. We'll be back!
First visit to Jo’s Bistro on vacation in Newport. Best entry ever- pan sheared scallops over puréed corn and potatoe mash with fresh basil and grape tomatoes! Great service and very lovely room up stairs..clean lines and attractive!
Will be back for sure.
Had a good time and a great meal at Jo's American Bistro!
Tourist trap for sure. Overpriced and food and drinks are mediocre
First Time to the restaurant and it won't be my last. Went with friends and had an enjoyable evening with some background live music. Girls ordered salmon and duck which were outstanding, guys got burgers cooked perfectly.
We were in Newport on Labor Day weekend so I knew to book ahead.
We were seated at a lovely table inside, but my husband requested patio, and it was wonderful. They changed us very quickly.
Both meals and dessert and coffee amazing.
Will definitely eat there next time in Newport...
Since it is a little away from the busy waterfront. .the atmosphere wonderful.
Food was just alright; the description sounds great on the menu but doesn't come close when served. Wouldn't recommend it!
Food was excellent, service outstanding. We shared a variety of generously sized appetizers rather than a full meal, and all were well prepared. Highly recommend the calamari, the lobster and duck quesadillas, and the peach bread pudding with caramel sauce. The only problem we encountered was at the reception/host desk. They couldn't find our reservations for a while, and we kept getting passed along to different staff. Fortunately, our server's gracious and accommodating manner helped improve the evening.
Great food and excellent service at Jo’s. One of the best dinners in Newport
My husband and I dined after a polo match for the first time and loved it! The wait staff was very friendly especially the sommelier, she was very knowledgeable regarding the wine. I had the cod and was in heaven; my husband had the fish and chips which were one of the best he’s had. We highly recommend this restaurant!
