We had a first rate waitress who made us feel welcome. Delicious food. Most important: they really catered to us gluten free folk. Yes, they have a dedicated fryer. We will definitely be back.
Excellent food and service. Would dine here again.
My husband and I were in Newport celebrating our 30th anniversary. We chose Jo's based on the reviews and the recommendation of our host. We made a reservation, which I highly recommend as it is a very popular restaurant. We enjoyed the food, the wine, the ambiance, the service. We will definitely go again next time we are in Newport.
If you want a great hamburger, come here! Everything else was declicious as well, we had pizza, the hummus platter and the chicken filet sandwich and everyone liked what they got. The hamburger was tasty and cooked perfectly and was served on a bun that was not huge, it was just right. The waitress was a very attentive and capable. Everything was good except perhaps for being seated out on the enclosed porch as it was dark there and had no atmosphere. We would definitely go back, just ask not to sit out there!
Tracey our waitress was great, attentive and very pleasant. We were there for our anniversary and they made us feel special; even a dessert on the house with a candle; also made a moctail for me, delicious , just invented one on a whim, it was perfection
Wow what can I say? Joanne is a fabulous hostess and her entire staff went above and beyond to assure we had an amazing Anniversary dinner. Great atmosphere, great menu fit for any foodie and service is impeccable!
Found Jo’s on TripAdvisor and it was worth it. Food was excellent and service very good. It is small and upstairs was very noisy. Downstairs had live music so probably noisy as well. The service was almost too quick. We shared appetizer, salad and entree and were served and done in 48 minutes. I guess we could have lingered over another drink, and might if we were downstairs with the music. Parking is a problem as it is in all of Newport, but in the evening there is limited free parking in front of restaurant, but we paid around the corner off Bellevue.
Through no fault of their own the night we were there a table of 10 came into our area and was very very loud. We were almost finished but every other customer who came into the room (upstairs) immediately asked to be seated elsewhere.
Fortunately we enjoyed our meal before this. We reserved on Open Table and mentioned it was our anniversary. After dinner we were presented with a creme bulee dessert, with a candle in it, on the house. That made our evening very special.
Staff was all awesome, well be back, very nice experience
Good food. Lovely atmosphere, homey Felt very comfortable. Good service
A few standouts: the spicy shrimp appetizer was flavored spice, not just hot for hot sake. The accompanying crispy kale was salted and delicious, and we were surprised to find that it was deep fried (not battered) which gave it texture and flavor. The fried chicken appetizers were very good, but the sauce was meh. Piping hot rolls with butter. Our server, Pearson, was good-humored and helpful, answering, it seems, to every name which we made up for him. Entrees were generous, reasonably priced and high quality, including the pan seared cod, fish and chips and duck breast. The kitchen kept their batters, and perhaps their fry-o-laters separate and distinct for each food. The batter for the tender white fish was thin enough not to smother the fish; the batter for the chicken thick enough to add texture. The restaurant is a nice break from the over-priced and under-valued spots along Thames, and a pleasant walk up the hill from the bar scene in Newport. Would repeat.
I ordered the onion bacon jam burger. It was one of the best burgers I've ever had.
Best lobster bisque my wife ever had, fish and chips were good. Impeccable service and ambiance. Only drawback is hard to find parking, they have an arrangement worked out with the shopping center around the corner where CVS is, make sure to ask about it.
Bottom line is I would definitely go back to Jo’s next time I’m in Newport.
Our reservation for 7:30 got us a table in a busy traffic way between the front door and the bar. While the food was good, the noise level was so bad that my wife and I were literally screaming to hear one another. Service was just so so; wait person had too many tables. We’ve always liked Jo’s but question a return trip.
It was for my moms birthday and to let her know that my sister is having a baby girl.
First, my reservation was canceled, so I had to rebook and call the restaurant to make sure the reservation was ok. When we walked in, we were ushered to the worst table upstairs. Waitress was lovely. We ordered salads and apps as opposed to the entrees we usually order and they were marginal. Nothing special, bland. Disappointed since Jo’s is one of those places in our monthly rotation especially during the winter.
great specials on the menu and high quality food. Joanne, the owner, is very nice and responsive.
We had an enjoyable dinner at Jo's during our recent visit to Newport. The food was delicious, we tried the grilled shrimp and the chicken piccata which was one of the prix fixe specials. The prix fixe was a good value as it also included soup or salad and a glass of wine or beer. The service was very attentive and we did not feel rushed. We will return next time we are in Newport.
Friendly staff, great food, music and cocktails
Great food! Lobster carbonara is our favorite!
The restaurant has a casual and comfortable atmosphere. The service was excellent and our waitress was attentive and helpful in answering questions about the menu. There is a nice variety of food on the menu and one can be satisfied with soup and salad or a complete meal. The steamers I had at Jo's were prepared with an outstanding, flavorful wine broth with sausage. They were literally the best I had ever had. For a casual dinner or a special time out Jo's is a delightful place to be.
Owner JoAnn is exceptional in running a 5 Star restaurant!!
One of the best in Newport. Scallops best ever! Can do gluten-free lobster roll!
We had a wonderful evening!! It was our anniversary and our first time in Newport, so we were hoping for a great dinner...and we were not disappointed! The ambiance was perfect, the dinner was delicious and the service was excellent. The owner greeted us and even surprised us with an “on the house” dessert for our anniversary. She obviously cares about her restaurant and its customers. I highly recommend Jo’s and hope to be back!
Great food and staff
Jo’s a great hostess and makes this place our “Cheers”
The food was amazing! The server was very friendly and knowledgable. Pretty busy for a Wednesday night after Labor Day, but we were seated right away and the waiter was very attentive. Looking forward to going back.
Fabulous. Just moved into Newport and picked Jos because it was walking distance and the menu looked good. Food was fantastic and service/ambiance just as good.
We came on a prix fix special day (Sunday- Wednesday) and was pleasantly surprised with the choice of entrees - chicken piccata was delicious and we will be back again.
Great every time !
Thank you for the great review! Hope to see you again soon!
Jo's is an awesome restaurant. It is beautiful, the food is great, the staff is attentive, but not overbearing. I love it there!
We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed your time here at our bistro. We appreciate your kind words and hope to serve you again soon!
Really good food, but one of our two plates was a bit small on the portion side. Servers were very kind and there when you needed them, but had some long gaps in checking in. Overall very happy though!
Very disappointing. Did not enjoy food or service! Will not return.
We're sorry to hear about your experience during your visit. We are normally known for our excellent customer service and we regret that we missed the mark for you. We hope that you will consider giving us another chance to impress you in the future.
Our table on the upstairs porch was ready when we arrived and perfect for a warm summer evening. The menu was wide-ranging with everything from wonderful specialty cocktails (the "Jo's garden" with a cucumber base was outstanding) to good bread to thoughtful salads and everything from burgers to classic main course preparations. The food was well-prepared, arrived hot, including a special of the day swordfish served with a marvelous risotto. The pork chop also gained a top review. Tracy, our server, was funny, knowledgeable and professionally excellent. We'd go back in a minute.
Webster, thank you for your fantastic review! We are so delighted to learn of your excellent experience and strive to keep customers like you pleased. Hope to see you again soon!
Nice service. Dessert provided on the house for iur anniversary. Food was average.
Very friendly staff and the waitress very attentive. Appetizers and meals were excellent . Hot fresh baked bread was great . The vegan meal that was for the Sunday meal was gladly prepared for me on Saturday which was very tasty , different and amazing . We arrived earlier than our reservation and they were very accommodating . We lived the atmosphere and were happy to be away from the crowded touristy area . Would definitely comeback here next time we are back from boston

Very enjoyable experience. They allowed us to easily modify our reservation because we were stuck in unexpected traffic. Food was wonderful as well as the drinks. We will definitely be back again.
Thank you for your review, John! We can't wait to serve you again soon!
Great gluten free, the waitress brought gluten free rolls without having been asked, accommodated every need, great experience
Thank you for your great review! We work hard to accommodate allergies and make an exceptional dining experience for all!
We ate at Jo's for the first time for a late dinner. The temperature outside was beautiful so we opted to sit outside. It was quiet and comfortable. I made sure to ask our waitress for her recommendations on the menu items I was interested in and she didn't steer me wrong! The food was amazing, drinks were a strong. I would definitely recommend!
We are delighted to hear about your experience! We work very hard to provide excellent service and food, and are happy to have met your expectations for both during your visit! Hope to serve you again soon!
