Jo's American Bistro Ratings and Reviews
We made a reservation on Open Table and requested outside seating for our Anniversary. The hostess never mentioned it so apparently there was not available seating. They did give us a nice table upstairs by the window. We ordered clamcakes for an appetizer and they were excellent. The wine pour was decent and because we were there on a Wednesday we took advantage of the pre fixe menu which included the wine, soup or salad and an entree. I got the Salmon and it was delicious and substantial. Our waiter was attentive and he even brought us a complimentary creme brulee for our anniversary. The restaurant seemed to be filled with couples and business people. Very nice experience.
Four of us ate an excellent early evening dinner at an outdoor table. Steak was over cooked (medium vs medium rare) but replaced with apology once the manager checked it out and cooked perfectly second time. Rest of the meals were right on. Definitely visit again.
Booked Jo's based on TravelAdvisor ranking. Definitely a gem find. Ordered from the Pric Fixe portion of the menu, although regular entree prices were very reasonable. I got wine, clam chowder, and grilled pork chops over spaetzel. My wife ordered grilled salmon on a bed of bulgar grain. Both plates were delicious and cleaned. The staff were attentive, including Jo herself. My wife is already planning our return. Tomorrow.
Great local restaurant.
We loved the Caesar salad.
The rotisserie chicken was excellent.
For some reason, it is a very loud restaurant but we were a party of 8 people that included children so this was fine.
It was easy to get parking on Memorial Drive West, so we would go again.
You need to make a reservation because it seems to be very popular.
Service was excellent!
Friendly service, food was awesome! Everything we ordered tasted delicious, very accommodating to my 2-year old (they gave her coloring paper, crayons, kids menu). Waiter overheard that it was our anniversary and gave us a free creme broulet for dessert! I would def come here again!!!
This was our second time eating at this restaurant. We loved the menu. I ordered salmon, and it was cooked to perfection. Portions are good size. We had the same waitress (unfortunately, I cannot remember her name) who knew who products well and was not afraid to make recommendations!
We had eaten here before and I wasn't super impressed. I was willing to give it another try. We were seated on time at a nice table at the window. The service was spot on. The food is uninspiring. I had the fish and chips. The fries were extremely crispy, the fish although not greasy had very little flavor. The coleslaw was simply shredded cabbage, no dressing. If a typical NE fish and chips entree is three elements, at least make an effort with the coleslaw!! On the plus side, the prices are reasonable and the fare though unoriginal is of good quality.
The food was excellent and delicious! The service was great also. We were sorry to see the fried oyster appetizer served in individual spoons with a sauce was not on the menu. We live out of state and visit Newport twice a year and were really looking forward to those oysters. We will look forward to dining at Jo's the next time we are in town!
Lots of interesting items on the menu. My husband had the salmon with Spatzel, and it was delicious. I had the cod with fennel and potatoes and broth. His was very good. mine was fine, but I would try something else next time. The service was excellent. Delicious hot fresh rolls with butter, Live music was a nice touch. I would definitely go back again to try more items.
Very good experience. From start to finish we enjoyed the staff, the food, the ambiance.
We both opted for the prix fixe, which is an extremely good deal and much appreciated.
Pork cutlets for me and Salmon for the hubby. The matched side dishes were excellent.
We had a delightful young man, Josh, for our waiter. He was very attentive and pleasant.
The gentleman who delivered most of the dishes was very nice as well. I would absolutely return when we get back to Newport. Thank you for a very nice evening.
Great food! I had the special with swordfish, risotto and sautéed spinach and kale. The fish was cooked perfectly and was perfectly complimented by the veg and risotto.
Yummy dessert! We shared the cinammon peach bread pudding, which was delicious.
Solid service! Very attentive, friendly and helpful.
The restaurant was a bit slow at first but then picked up as the night went on. Parking is a bit challenging but they do validate in the CVS parking lot!
The food here is really good. The chef combines flavors very well. I particularly love the fish dishes. It is a lovely setting and in the summer they open the restaurant to the outdoors. The staff are very professional. It is one of Newports gems in my opinion.
