Jonathan's - Ogunquit Ratings and Reviews
This restaurant is attached to the Meadowmere Hotel. We only ate there because we were tired from traveling and we were pleasantly surprised. We both started with a farm driven salad that had a clean fresh taste. I had Haddock stuffed with scallops in a wonderful tasting sauce. This was plated with mashed potatoes & veggies. My husband ordered twin lobsters ($23.95!!) and they were delicious. Dessert we shared a banana cream tart in phylo dough. The service was friendly & efficient with white table cloths. I would definitely recommend Jonathan's.
This restaurant can please all kind of customers, couples looking for a romantic place, small and large families, and for a friends reunion. The food was excellent ( the lobster special is a must!) and the service has well. The only comment I can make is about the decor which is a bit of everything and the tropical fish tank which is out of place for such a restaurant. We will go back during our next trip to Ogunquit.
Celebrated 10th anniversary at Jonathan's. It was the perfect late supper location on a Saturday in peak season.
Outstanding service! The wait staff indulged our every inquiry about the menu.
The bouche amuser of zuchinni and kale was a refreshing start. The lobster bisque had classic clean flavor of a New England recipe. Simple yet flavorful. The stuffed mushroom were delightful.
Seafood was exceptional. The Maine Gulf scallops were juicy. The baked stuffed haddock lived up to its house special reputation, full of fresh seafood flavors.
Never rushed through any part of the meal, we enjoyed traditional tiramisu and house made coffee cinnamon ice cream.
This is fine New England coastal dining at its best!
We went back to Jonathan's (our first of many vists since 1975). (we live near-by) the food and service was top notch. (we understand Jonathan was in the kitchen the night we were there). We stayed for the show with Tom Rush who we have been a fan of since the 60's!
The only downside, is the noise level. It was sometimes dificult to have normal diner converstaion as the music from the bar area was pretty loud.
Overall, go. it is a wonderful Ogumquit tradition.
The food was delicious, however the fish chowder was not hot enough and we should have sent it back, but we did not. It was delicious even though not hot. the only issue we do have is that the coffee was served in a cup that had a red lipstick mouth on it. it was not a small spot it was the entire LIP on the inside and outside of the cup. It was taken care of when they were notified and the manager that evening did apologize, but that should never happen in an upscale restaurant.
Per suggestion of friends, we made a reservation at Jonathan's and were very pleased with the whole experience. The indoor ambience
and outdoor as well are pleasurable. Many tables are located next to windows displaying their beautiful flower gardens.
Food is exceptional as they grow many of their own veggies. This place is a gem.
Went to Jonathons for dinner with my Daughter on vacation. Food was amazing. I don't understand the negative comments. We had Natasha loved her pleasant helpful funny. I saw waiters and waitresses working quickly to serve everyone. Had a taste if complimentary soup zucchini and kale Delisious. had filet mignon with mushroom Demi glaze. To die for cooked perfect. Seafood w lingini lite perfect. Dessert Creme brûlée Omg!! And chocolate mousse cake! Everything was great. Can't wait to go again!
We had 5:30 dinner reservations for two to celebrate our anniversary. We got there 15 mins early but they seated us right away. The menu was seafood heavy, but something for everyone (I'm vegetarian). Service was excellent and wait after order was short. Food was fantastic! Wife had haddock and I the eggplant Napolean and farm fresh salad (from Jonathon's farm). No room for dessert as we ate every bite. HIGHLY recommend. No kids with us and we didn't order drinks so can't comment on those aspects.
Although the service was ok , the food was horrible. The lobster bisque seemed watered down. The lobster meat meal was overcooked and had no taste even with the watered down butter. We asked for ranch dressing for our buffalo wings and got blue cheese instead. I asked for no anchovies on my salad and it came to the table with them on it. They did offer to get me another one but by then I had lost my appetite. The food was VERY expensive . They didn't even take the $10 salad off the bill. Desert was not much better. I wanted this to be a special meal out with my daughters and it turned out awful.
The setting was great the waitstaff friendly and knew about the menu and the wine list . After eating a great meal my husband had stuffed haddock and I had scallops, we left a spot for dessert and we were happy that we did, puff pastry with cheese and fresh blueberries, it was delish.
Dinner setting was very nice and waiter was great. The chef made me a special pasta primavera since I am vegetarian. Then we went to see Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters upstairs after diner. 3 time blues guitarist of the year, Ronnie is truly amazing. We see him 2-3 times per year.
I had been eating at Jonathan's somewhat regularly. Over the past few years the food and service have gone downhill, as the prices have soared. My meal this past visit consisted of lamp chops and vegetable for $38. The chops were an appetizer portion at best and under cooked. They couldn't have been more than 1/4 inch thick. I will not be going again since I have given Jonathan's several tries to get back to the restaurant they used to be.
A real class act from start to finish. All staff are friendly, polished and attentive. From the valet, hostess, bartender and servers - they were all great! Jonathan was very gracious and sweet. Greeting people as they were on their way in and out. Beautiful décor, great atmosphere and the best food you could ask for.... Thank you Jonathan's!
While the servers were pleasant and efficient they were too few in number and water glasses were never refilled. Actually it was difficult to ascertain just who our sever was because serving seemed to be a team effort. The ambiance was great. The food gets mixed reviews however. Two of us had the schnitzel and thought it to be dry(overcooked?) though veg and potatoes were good. Two had baked stuffed haddock and one liked it and one didn't. The person who had the steak thought it was just OK and better and cheaper at Longhorn's. The swordfish was good as were the appetizers. Overall we found the food to be too pricey for the quality and probably won't eat here again.
We went to Jonathan's for dinner and the show--Noel Paul Stookey. It was a magical evening--the food was delicious, we sat by the window overlooking the garden, the service was excellent. Our only complaint was that the noise level was too high--I think there was very nice live music in the bar area, but I could just barely hear it or my husband's conversation. The show was amazing and we enjoyed chatting with our tablemates. After the show they encouraged us to go to the office to make reservations for an upcoming show. We did, and good thing--it was almost sold out and Jonathan opened up another table for us so we'll be back in Oct!
My twin lobsters were excellent. My husband's ribeye was poor at best, realizing that ribeye steaks are supposed to have marbling that make it tasty, his piece of steak had a considerable amount of grizzle. Most of his ribeye was relegated to his bread dish as a result.
I did not comment on the noise level because none of the choices did not apply. We thought it was quite noisy being seated next to the entertainment in the bar area, making it difficult to carry on a conversation.
Caesar salad was very average.......meals were not terrible but not notable either. We waited 1 1/2 hours for our dinners after we put the order in. Artichoke appetizer had to be sent back twice because, although the cheese on top was bubbling, the artichokes were cold.
Our experience at Jonathan's was shockingly fair, at best. Service was very rushed, we had 2 dirty utencils/plates, appetizer and food was cold, to name a few. We were slightly early and couldn't wait in the bar for a drink, since there was no room. This restaurant needs to take a close look at customer service.
Johnathan's has a great venue for performers if you want to get "up close and personal". To get the best seats, you need to purchase a ticket that includes a dining credit. We have done this in the past and while never fantastic, the food was OK. This time however, we were disappointed. Two of us ordered the pasta disk and either it was overcooked or it sat under the heating lamps too long I might be wrong on this point, but in the past the show we attend regularly (Paula Poundstone) started at 8:00. This time is started at 7:00 and it would have been nice if our server who knew we attending the show, might have mentioned that. We were late to the show and walking up to a table next to the stage is not something you want to do with Paula.
We have eaten at Jonathan's several times and been very pleased. This visit was not good. Service was slow both from kitchen and servers, and an expensive steak was prepared improperly twice. By the time the second preparation of it was served, the rest of the diners were done eating, and we would have been late for a show had we waited to have it done a second time. No compensation was offered and the owner, who we were told was in the restaurant, never came to the table.
