Jonathans of Oakville Ratings and Reviews
Firstly, we were seated at a lovely table near the window. It was not so lovely once we sat down and noticed that the table wobbled, quite a bit. How could this not have been noticed before.
We were served quickly, almost too quickly. The service was merely adequate for such a restaurant. We had to ask the waiter for bread. Is it common place to have to ask.
The dinner was delicious. I give high marks to the chef!
What I found most disappointing is that when I made reservation I noted that it was for a birthday. Nothing special was done by the restaurant. A few tables away there was also
another guest celebrating a birthday. This guest received acknowledgement.
We are not regulars but have eaten at Jonathans before. The food is always exceptional.
Unfortunately the service doesn't hold par.
Everything went smoothly, from the reminder phone call, choice of bistro or dining room
and great hospitality. Food was great and service tremendous. I've always heard about Jonathon's but never had the opportunity to go until Saturday.
Thank you for making it the go to destination for special occasions in the future
We had a lovely Luncheon visit with friends. We had asked for a quieter location and were provided with an excellent table away from other guests. We had a great catch-up and were able to hear each other perfectly. I can't thank Jonathan's enough for meeting our request.
The menu is varied and met all our tastes from a hamburger to a scrumptious soufflé. Soufflés are their signature dishes and I highly recommend them. Each couple shared a delicious slice of warm pecan pie in the most tender crust. Service was attentive but not hovering. A lovely afternoon that I look forward to repeating.
It was very bad. After living for so many years in Oakville, we had not tried somehow Jonathans but all the other restaurants. After a culinary peak in NYC last month, we reserved a table on opentable last minute. We went in by 8 pm. By 9:15 pm we still werent served our appetizers and noone even filled our water glasses, even after complaining. After asking to several servers, we got our mains by 9:35 pm (no word on appetizers that we ordered). My wife had Char and it was ok. My pasta was not cooked and was supposed to have scallops and shrimps in it, but there was only one of each for >$20 dish. The servers apologized (no management showed up) and took it all off our bill, but we left the restaurant Very unsatisfied and unhappy. Such a bad experience and so sad for already failing Oakville downtown
We went to celebrate our Parents 50th Wedding Anniversary! Everything was fantastic--lobster soufflé, scallops, oysters and even steak tartare...1/2 price corkage on Tuesday Nights and we brought treasures from our trips to France together. We booked the wine cellar as we' e enjoyed family gatherings and business dinners there before. Staff was very attentive...we felt incredibly spoiled. Thank you so much!
Took my Cousins who were in from Toronto for the day, for lunch at Jonathon's Bistro. I myself have been there many times before and have never been disappointed. They loved it as much as I do I; it is my favorite restaurant in Oakville! If a had to give one negative comment, it would be that we had to wait quite awhile for the main course to be served. I had ordered the Lobster Souffle which I was told 'after the fact' had caused the delay as the other meals ordered didn't require as much time to prepare. I wished our Waiter had suggested that possibility when he took our order as I would then have ordered something else. Other than that delay, everything was excellent & I will definitely be dining there in the future.
Food was not impressive, nothing about the meal was notable or worth coming back for. The menu was boring as well. Ordered appetizers, main courses and desserts. Clam chowder was good...all 4 tablespoons of it. Cold lobster sandwich served on a hot dog bun at this restaurant? Salmon on a bed of rice was just that....nothing notable and definitely something the average person could make for a weeknight family dinner.
Was surpeised to learn that the desserts were not made on site....for a fine dinning restaurant the expectation is that desserts be house made.
Location and atmosphere was great.
Although the service was friendly and polite, the service was under par. Asked for an earl grey tea, received orange pekoe instead. Server offered to bring more bread for the table, and the bread never arrived. Not once were our drinks topped up or were we asked if we would like another beverage.
Will not be returning.
People were very nice, service was good. Food was alright. It would certainly
Be defined as "fine dining" but i was underwhelmed considering the price point. I ordered the wild boar shanks, the flavour was nice but they were dry. Wife ordered the ravioli and it was cooked properly and displayed nicely but the seafood flavour was too strong in my opinion for such a delicate dish.
Outstanding attention to detail. Excellent staff. Very accommodating. We ordered several appetizers and the waiter suggested that he would plate them separately and surprise us with the ordering. This made the meal feel much more formal and was a lot of fun. The live music was also great.
Found the food to be disappointing for the price point. The servers were not very attentive. We had dinner reservations for 7:30 for 2- and left at 10. Very slow.
Desert was not fresh- cake was stale.
Dinner was $225 - 2 apps, 2 entrees , one desert and 1/2 litre of wine. Not good value for an average experience.
We had so much fun for my husband's birthday (which they forgot about ...
but made up for it) last night. As we were about to leave, a total stranger
grabbed my arm and said we couldn't leave. That we were too much fun.
We obviously had a great night. The laughter started with a gentleman, who must be a
regular, called Len.
Food feedback: in France, any "frites" we have had, especially with steak
frites, are light shoestring potatoes. We had 2 tries ... even
the double fried ones... and they tasted exactly like frozen ones we'd give to
kids. We're encouraging a change.
The scallops were heavenly.
The steak had a lovely flavour.
Could be more generous in the hummus , butter and aioli servings.
Foie gras made me swoon.Toasts were perfect.
Music was terrific.
We'll be back. And will send friends.
Great place, good service
The food the menus is very good
On Eco meant though, DO NOT order steak in there, it was very rare though I specifically asked for medium, and a cheap plate of steak and fries, nothing else on the dish
So disappointed with the steak
The food was too spicy , both the soup "Squash... and" and the main entree "Provini Veal" and fish "john Dover" were based with the same spicy oriental taste and the veal , offered in a large chunk was too tough to slice easily and too tough to chew. Pepper was offered by waiters too early and not necessary, given the spices of the two entrees'. The white wine recommended by the waiter " Sauvignon Blanc' was too gentle to work well with the strong oriental spices of the two first dishes. It seemed to be an evening of "oriental" heavy spicing.
The service was fine although replenishing the water glasses took more time than necessary.
Bistro area was too loud and robust so that the performer was drowned out. We were happy to sit in the adjoining dining area.
The dessert, Creme Brule, was satisfactory.
We have been patrons before and were disappointed this last evening.
Has the chef been changed?
We always love dining at Jonathan's -- especially the Bistro. The service is always excellent and the food is fit for discerning tastes. I am always comfortable taking my business guests there, knowing they will be delighted with the food. I have allergies and they always deal with this well. We always feel welcome and enjoy ourselves no matter how busy it is.
Food and ambiance was very good, if a bit pricey. Server was very friendly and responsive, but kitchen fell behind on our main courses and there was an uncomfortable gap between appetizers and main course. Nothing the server could do to fix this, but he did top up our wine glasses for free. Overall a very good experience.
Food was pretty good but wildly overpriced. The four at our table basically had the same thoughts. Food wasn't good enough to justify the exorbitant cost. Cool location in a heritage building but too loud and crammed to carry a conversation unless you're eating 5pm with no other patrons.
My Wife and I had just moved into the area and had tried various eating establishments. All were over rated and disappointing. We heard good things about Jonathan's and were pleasantly gifted that we found it. The food was excellent, the service equally as fine and the ambience top notch!! Now how does it get any better than that?
We were quite disappointed with the service at Jonathons. At one point we were pouring our own wine. As well, our water glasses were never refilled. Furthermore, some of the food was very salty. Lastly, the temperature of two of the dishes were only 'warm.'
Was also equally pleased with music selection with the dancing adding a great deal to the New Year celebration. Perhaps it would have even be better if a few people had been discouraged from repositioning their chairs on what was already (and necessarily) a small dancing space.
