Jonah's Seafood House Ratings and Reviews
Great place. If you want fish, oysters or clams, this is the place to go. The seared scallops were great. You can also get them spicy. Couldn’t decide between chowder or gumbo. Surprise, they make a “Chumbo”, which is a combination of the two and it’s very good.
Our evening started perfectly when our hostess helped me to surprise my wife by seating our daughter and son in law while my wife and I were in the Oyster Bar. She then came and seated us as my wife was thrilled to see them! We ordered king crab cocktail, crab stuffed mushrooms, and half a dozen blue point oysters as appetizers, and all were excellent. Our entrees included broiled lobster tail, scallops, swordfish, and grouper Oscar, all of which were prepared and presented perfectly! To finish our meal our waitress brought a large complimentary slice of chocolate layer cake as we were celebrating our daughter's birthday. They even printed her name on the top of their daily menu welcoming her to her special occasion. Overall an outstanding evening. We were talking about when we'd be able to return!
Am allergic to seafood but have gone to Jonah's many times.Their landlubwer dishes are becoming fewer, less interesting and not as good. Today the chicken Caesar salad was 95% lettuce and 2% rubbery chicken. There were no croutons but think slices of dry bread instead. My friends crabcake sandwich looded Ok.
We had fined at Jonah's several times in the past and enjoyed their ambience, service, and seafood. Unfortunately the last two times we have dined there the food has been unsatisfactory.
The service has remained excellent and we enjoy the scenic view, but sadly we cannot justify spending our time and money on food which was disappointing.
We've been to to johnas quite a few times and by far this was the most disappointing time. I had to send my steak back to be cooked properly so my girlfriend was forced to eat alone or sit and let her food get cold. The vegetables that were part of the entree looked old and like they were scraped off someone else's plate and added to mine. Our waitress did a great job on the other hand and turned a bad dining experience into acceptable because of her.
We always dine here when we are in Peoria. I love the view and the coleslaw!! We prefer their lunch menu tho as the dinner prices are quiet high. Also I like to look out at the river, but they lowered the shades as the sun was going down. I am sure it would have been too bright if they had left them up, but I hated not being about to see the view. We would have gone earlier in the day, but they don't open for lunch on Sat. A disappointment.
First time dining here. The food was fabulous. We all had seafood and we all enjoyed it. Food was fresh and plentiful from the 2 appetizers to dessert. It was my wife's birthday. Our server brought out a HUGE piece of decadent chocolate cake for her birthday. On the house! Our next trip to Peoria will definitely include a trip to Jonahs.
We had a reservation for 3 and got there about 30 minutes early. Despite the fact that there were empty tables we were not seated for 30 minutes for no apparent reason. Our oyster appetizers were very good. Our entrees were undercooked and only warm not hot. After complaining to our waitress the manager came out and apologized and gave us free dessert. Luckily I had a gift card because had I had to pay the stiff bill ($150) I would have been really annoyed.
We had great drinks, excellent appetizers, delicious entree, and a scrumptious chocolate cake for dessert! For drinks we tried the Jonah's Sunset and Malibu Pina Colada. Delicious! My husband loved the shrimp and chicken egg rolls with great sauces for dipping. The filet mignon and fish and shrimp platter were fantastic! What a great place to celebrate our anniversary!!
We have noticed this restaurant for many years when traveling in the area. We decided to give it a try and were so happy we did. Everything was EXCELLENT. The quality of the seafood was exceptional. Service was perfect and the timing of the service was great. We will make this a must-do every time we are in the area.
The seafood was fresh and delicious, prepared with a light touch and cooked to perfection. We had the crab cake, jumbo shrimp cocktail, chowder (a favorite), and pound of Alaskan king crab legs (for each of us). A bonus is that the crab legs are prepared so that they are easy to eat and yield a lot of meat. There is no better place in East Central Illinois for seafood than Jonah's. The sides (from sourdough bread baked on site, to salads, to sweet potato gratin) were delicious, too.
The only negatives of our visit where twofold: 1) We arrived 15 minutes before our reservation. We were told that our reservation was for the same time as the restaurant's opening for the day, so we could not be seated. It doesn't make sense for a restaurant to schedule a reservation for the exact moment it opens. Assume that your first reservation will come 10-15 minutes early. When opening time came, the staff were still scrambling to prepare tables. We were actually seated around 10 minutes late (beyond our time of reservation). The hostess was professional throughout the wait period, but not especially warm or kind. 2) The interior needs updating. I'd be willing to go with the local neighborhood woodwork and other nautical elements that are traditional at Jonah's. But, the women's room is in desperate need (including the toilet flush mechanisms, one of which is partially broken). Also, the carpeting throughout -- faded, green indoor-outdoor. It's...unappetizing. The oyster bar affiliated with Jonah's has such a great interior, so we know the owners can do it when they build. Now we'd like to see some renovation.
We do love the gourmet food shop that is now next to Jonah's. We went there while we waited to be seated, as did many other diners. We bought the deviled egg appetizer and ate it while we waited for our table. Lots of nice things, some made at the restaurant and the rest well selected by a knowledgeable buyer.
My wife had the fried platter with shrimp, oysters, and fish. The oysters weren't fried enough. They were mushy and the shrimp had a medicinal or chlorine taste to them. I had the grouper pan fried which was very good. When the waitress asked how everything was I told her about the oysters and she just said "Oh I'm sorry". Even the appetizer of Bang Bang Shrimp was not what I expected. It was 6 shrimp on a plate seasoned with a spicy sauce. I have had this down south and it's a plate of nice shrimp (25-30) for the same money.
Our food and waitress were wonderful. The chocolate cake was a great treat for our anniversary. When we arrived we were seated promptly at a table that was close to the entrance of the main dining room. We saw 4 open tables next to the wall and asked if we could have a more private table. The answer was no, by the host who was seating us even when he went to go check. The whole time we were at Jonah's one of the tables never had people. I don't know what the system is for seating customers but we felt as if we were lied to about reserving the tables. My husband is hard of hearing and was very difficult to talk in the location we were required to sit.
