Jonah's Seafood House Ratings and Reviews
I've been to Jonah's before and it's been wonderful, but my most recent experience left me extremely disappointed. It was a Valentine's Day date, so we expected busy. What we didn't expect was for them to have an extremely limited entree menu, be out of the bottle of wine we ordered, and then be out of our first 3 choices from the already the limited menu. And they ran out of bread! How does an establishment with so much experience run out of bread at dinner time?
We ordered calamari for an appetizer, and it was marginal at best -- some soggy pieces, and completely without salt. Hubby ordered bronzed salmon, and it was good but not great. I had the grouper salinas, and it was not really even good. The sauce was extremely shrimpy, to the tune that I couldn't really even taste the flavor of the fish.
In the end, this experience may dissuade me from going back to Jonah's. Perhaps someday for a more casual dinner or lunch, but absolutely never again for a holiday such as Valentine's Day. My husband and I were both left wishing we'd just had salad and dessert. I'm just trying to get over the disappointment -- I had such high expectations, and was left wanting.
We went on Valentine's Day and it was our first time at Jonah's. They had a limited menu and they were out of Ono my first choice so I went with the Jambalaya which was pretty good. However my wife went with the Grouper and was very unimpressed. Overall it was dry and bland and most definitely overpriced in comparison to what I had ordered. Decent service for a busy afternoon but we were left unattended for extended periods of time on a few occasions. Overall it was okay but not what I expected for an upscale restaurant on Valentine's Day.
The food is always good , this time service was disappointing . Took to long to get waited on . They didn’t take our order until we was done with our oyster rockafeller . Everyone around us showed up after we did but left before us . Oh well . Food was good as always
Well prepared entrees...the kitchen knows how to cook fish...not overdone! Interesting menu options. Good prices on bottled wines, ordered a Chardonnay that I regularly pay $22 for at the liquor store, menu priced at only $34...so a very good deal. Knowledgeable, attentive wait staff. A good experience
Size of oysters have to be the smallest I've eaten in the past 40 years. Probably won't order those again. Bread crust was so tough I thought I was going to loose a filling. Other than that, very enjoyable evening. Drinks were great. (Brandy Old Fashion Sweet). Scallops were very tasty. Shrimp and fish very good. Veggies were ok. Bread cheese spread was excellent. Service was very good and server was pleasant. Enjoyed salads/size and toppings. Delivery of items were timely. Atmosphere was very nice too.
The food and service were excellent. My only comment was that I had made this reservation two weeks prior to the date, When e arrive we were seated next to the opening to the reception rea. May tables were unfilled. I asked if our table of 3 could be moved to another table away from the hub-bub. The answer was NO . There were too many reservations. We ate and by the time we were through there were still 4 tables within close proximity that were still unfilled. Very poor answer and respect for us....
Great place. If you want fish, oysters or clams, this is the place to go. The seared scallops were great. You can also get them spicy. Couldn’t decide between chowder or gumbo. Surprise, they make a “Chumbo”, which is a combination of the two and it’s very good.
Our evening started perfectly when our hostess helped me to surprise my wife by seating our daughter and son in law while my wife and I were in the Oyster Bar. She then came and seated us as my wife was thrilled to see them! We ordered king crab cocktail, crab stuffed mushrooms, and half a dozen blue point oysters as appetizers, and all were excellent. Our entrees included broiled lobster tail, scallops, swordfish, and grouper Oscar, all of which were prepared and presented perfectly! To finish our meal our waitress brought a large complimentary slice of chocolate layer cake as we were celebrating our daughter's birthday. They even printed her name on the top of their daily menu welcoming her to her special occasion. Overall an outstanding evening. We were talking about when we'd be able to return!
Am allergic to seafood but have gone to Jonah's many times.Their landlubwer dishes are becoming fewer, less interesting and not as good. Today the chicken Caesar salad was 95% lettuce and 2% rubbery chicken. There were no croutons but think slices of dry bread instead. My friends crabcake sandwich looded Ok.
We had fined at Jonah's several times in the past and enjoyed their ambience, service, and seafood. Unfortunately the last two times we have dined there the food has been unsatisfactory.
The service has remained excellent and we enjoy the scenic view, but sadly we cannot justify spending our time and money on food which was disappointing.
We've been to to johnas quite a few times and by far this was the most disappointing time. I had to send my steak back to be cooked properly so my girlfriend was forced to eat alone or sit and let her food get cold. The vegetables that were part of the entree looked old and like they were scraped off someone else's plate and added to mine. Our waitress did a great job on the other hand and turned a bad dining experience into acceptable because of her.
We always dine here when we are in Peoria. I love the view and the coleslaw!! We prefer their lunch menu tho as the dinner prices are quiet high. Also I like to look out at the river, but they lowered the shades as the sun was going down. I am sure it would have been too bright if they had left them up, but I hated not being about to see the view. We would have gone earlier in the day, but they don't open for lunch on Sat. A disappointment.
First time dining here. The food was fabulous. We all had seafood and we all enjoyed it. Food was fresh and plentiful from the 2 appetizers to dessert. It was my wife's birthday. Our server brought out a HUGE piece of decadent chocolate cake for her birthday. On the house! Our next trip to Peoria will definitely include a trip to Jonahs.
We had a reservation for 3 and got there about 30 minutes early. Despite the fact that there were empty tables we were not seated for 30 minutes for no apparent reason. Our oyster appetizers were very good. Our entrees were undercooked and only warm not hot. After complaining to our waitress the manager came out and apologized and gave us free dessert. Luckily I had a gift card because had I had to pay the stiff bill ($150) I would have been really annoyed.
We had great drinks, excellent appetizers, delicious entree, and a scrumptious chocolate cake for dessert! For drinks we tried the Jonah's Sunset and Malibu Pina Colada. Delicious! My husband loved the shrimp and chicken egg rolls with great sauces for dipping. The filet mignon and fish and shrimp platter were fantastic! What a great place to celebrate our anniversary!!
