We took four 20+ to dinner. Great vibe with the music. Kept the evening fun and lively. Never been before didn't know what to expect. Small place not a cookie cutter franchise. Food was a pleasant surprise. Entrees $20-25. Everyone loved it. Not a good selection of wine, but full bar available. Our son & friends said they would all go back with dates.

I've been to Jojo many times before and my experience was always great! The food is good and the live music is awesome. The prices are decent as well. I've told countless people about the restaurant! However, I introduced two friends to JoJos last night and the service was HORRIBLE. The waiter was repeatedly out of line and unfriendly. We came for dinner but decided on apps/drinks after 1) she told us "oh I was expecting a party of 6, guess they canceled", 2) she "called" to make sure my gift card was valid, & 3) told us "no matter how many people you ask tonight there is no happy hour, ladies" after she assumed we were asking another waiter about it when we were actually asking about a drink she served! I'll walk out if I have her again!

After having a baby just 12 weeks ago, this was the first time my husband and I were able to go out at night..sans le bebe. The music level on the upper floor was great because we heard and felt the hypnotic beat of the jazz troupe on the lower floor without having our conversation drowned out. The desert was great, the wine, fine.. the service - friendly but sloooww. Great music and a bijou bistro bar made for a very nice evening out.

I took my roommate here for her birthday and was thrilled with the choice. The food was absolutely delicious, drinks were great and the live music they play on Saturday nights really sealed the atmosphere. The restaurant is really quaint and cozy - almost a bit too cramped but not enough to ruin your time. Our server was great. Overall, I would definitely recommend this spot. (Make a reservation)

Took my wife her for her birthday. First, the music was really good. There was an improvisational jazz trio there. Second, the menu was great. It had a wide variety of food to choose from, which was great because my wife is a very picky eater. The wait staff was very friendly.

I am hesitant to write this review because this my new favorite restaurant and I want to keep it to myself. The restaurant is small and fills up fast. If you want to be near the band, sit downstairs. We sat upstairs and were still able to hear the great music as well as each other. To begin with, we had the best waitress ever. Melanie is my new bff as she made recommendations that lived up to her word. The red snapper was nothing short of incredible. The lemon garlic sauce made me want to lick the plate so the chef is also my new bff. My friend had a chicken dish that was amazing also. Our service was spectacular and the food still has me drooling. Can't wait to return.

Visited here on a Saturday night thanks to ratings on Open Table and availability. This was a great find and a spot I will certainly visit again. Band was amazing, never heard sax played as well as I did here. Food was very good also although portions were a little on the small side. Service was ok, waitress wasn't overly friendly and seemed like she had a long day and was ready to go. Highly recommend this spot for good food with good company. Do note that it may be hard to carry a conversation when band is playing.

I found this restaurant on TripAdvisor as I was searching for places to eat in Washington when I visited there last weekend. As I was unfamiliar with the place, I made a reservation just to be on the safe side. We ended up arriving about 45 minutes early for our reservation, but they were able to seat us right away. The service and attentiveness we received was superb, from the moment we sat down to the moment we left. The food was delicious, the drinks were cold and the music was awesome. The musicians were extremely talented, and you could feel the energy coming off of them. Such a great place - will definitely come back!

If you are in DC and looking for a real gem of a place to enjoy good food and a great atmosphere in a real jazz bar then JoJo is the place for you. Equally suitable for familes (we took our thirteen year old) as it would be for couples or small groups of adults - this really is a not to be missed venue - from the outside like so many of the best places you may not be so impressed but once through the door the atmosphere and music lets you know you are definitely in the RIGHT PLACE - the food was great - the wings are awesome, the service was friendly and welcoming, the music was excellent - just a brilliant night all round and the bill was very reasonable especially by DC standards- unreserved recommendation

We were looking for a place with great food, atmosphere and live music. Well we found what we were looking from in JoJo’s Restaurant and bar. It’s a great cozy place for the young at heart; where grown-ups can hang and really enjoy the mood. The jazz band was friendly and good, JoJo’s even surprised us with dessert (nice touch). We will be back, with friends.

I bumped upon this place and decided to eat here with a girlfriend on an early Sunday evening. The food was great (I had Seabass, she had Drunken Chicken), service was great (very prompt and attentive waitresses), prices were reasonable and there was even a cool jazzy band that played at 8pm--not too loud so you could still here each other talk.

The food was good. It took longer than expected for my table to receive entrees. The cajun spice on the Chicken/Shrimp was slightly overpowering, but not horrible. Was surprised by the bone in the chicken when it was supposed to be breast. Looked like a leg bone but it was white meat which probably meant shoulder bone or similiar.

First time at JoJo's celebrating a birthday....ate upstairs where we could hear the music, talk and enjoy our meal. On recommendation of Melanie, our waitress, we both had the ribs and they were excellent....and Melanie is the jewel in the crown. Her manner with guests, her short conversations with us and her welcoming spirit made the dinner special....as did the birthday surprise of Tiramisu with a candle. If you are looking for a spot on U street, try JoJo's and enjoy!

Being out-of-towners, we were totally unfamiliar with restaurants in the DC area, and we needed a reasonably priced place with special food for a family celebration. We searched on Open Table and came on Jo Jo's. Many of the other restaurants had food that was too unfamiliar, exotic or spicy for the two elderly grandmothers. Jo Jo's menu seemed to have something for everyone. We dropped off most of our party and found an underground parking lot a short walk away. We were seated upstairs. The wait staff was so attentive and everyone really enjoyed their food. If you are sensitive to spicy food, ask about it before you order. Some of the food was spicier than expected, but everyone enjoyed their meal.

I attended Jojo's for a business dinner and had requested a quiet table on the 2nd floor. The special request did get to the host for the evening, but my request was not able to be honored because of a private party. The host explained this and sat us at a quiet table near the bar. The food was pretty good, and the service was friendly. As far as what is available on U Street, this place had a little less to offer as far as the eclectic nature of the U Street area. The jazz was pleasant and not overwhelming.

We headed to Jojo for our girls night out. The food was amazing, service was fast, and our server was able to split our checks with ease which I really appreciate. I always have a great time at Jojo. The only down side is we didn't get to sit downstairs but since we had a lot of catching up to do we didn't mind so much (plus you could hear the music upstairs and there was a TV so we could see the band playing.) We'll be back again for sure!

The southern food with the jazz music and cool ambience made for a great date night. We grabbed a high top table in the back by the bar and could enjoy the music while still being able to hear each other. Would definitely go back. I had the seafood pasta and my date had the lamb chops. If we go back I'M getting the lamb chops because I had a taste and they were wonderful. Remember to tip the band on your way out!

FINALLY tried out this spot. JoJo's has been a U St. staple since I moved into the neighborhood nearly a decade ago. We went on a Saturday night; there's a 2nd floor (no music) & bottom floor with live jazz. There was a small band that was supposed to end at 8 pm (res was for 8 but we came about 15 min early to catch the end). Luckily, the band went for almost half hour over their end time, so we got to listen to some great music while perusing the menu and getting appetizers. The next band came on around 10 pm, but started setting up earlier (a little awkward with random screeching of the mic, but nothing too annoying). We got lamb chops, crab cake sliders, and a burger: all solid, though red snapper with shrimp only has 1 shrimp (sad).

When I and couple of friends planned a Saturday night out we were looking for a place in DC with a cozy atmosphere, nice food and live music. I checked U-Street restaurants online and so I found JoJo.
We arrived early for our 9:45 PM reservation and were seated promptly in the dining area upstairs which we were happy about because when the jazz band started playing downstairs around 10 pm we could still hear the band and carry on a conversation.
For appetizer I ordered Caprese and it was one of the best I ever tried. Grilled Salmon as a main dish was very good too. The portion sizes were just perfect. The service was fast and smiling.
We definitely go back.
