Johnny's - Schenectady Ratings and Reviews
My experience here was not a pleasant one. I had a reservation for 3 at a hightop table at 7:30 on Saturday night which had been confirmed hours before arriving. I looked forward to this evening for over a week. The chunky hostess wearing the hideous black lipstick was not very pleasant, in fact, she became quite rude after I called her out on giving my table away to a couple who arrived 20 minutes after us with no reservation as we continued to wait. She then stuck us at a table in the overly crowded extremely loud bar area with quite an attitude. That particular table was empty the entire time we waited for our reservation which did not make us very happy. We couldnt sit in the dining area like all the other folks who came in after us WITHOUT a reservation? We waited another 20 minutes before I finally got up from the table to find a waitress to serve us being no one seemed to care we were sitting there, after all, it was the bar area. Our waitress was pleasant but never brought my husband's beer until I asked another server to check on it after waiting 15 minutes for her to return. I ordered a seltzer water with cranberry but she brought me a plain seltzer water with lime. Surprisingly our food was delicious which was a good thing and she got that right. After we paid and left at 9:00, it had been snowing and as we were walking out directly out front of the restaurant, no one had salted or shoveled the area and my 6 foot 250 pound husband slipped and lost his footing and fell hard, twisting his entire body. A man from Proctors ran across the street to assist after witnessing the fall. I contacted the Mayors office when I arrived back home and received a call back from their legal department today. I'm extremely disappointed with our visit there and will not come back nor will I recommend this restaurant to any of my friends and family.
Our server was outstanding but when we arrive for our 5pm reservation we had to wait. The lady greeting us at the door was just starting to setup what tables each wait staff would cover, we ended up waiting with 5 other couples and a 6th ended up leaving. This was a little annoying since it should have been done before paying customers began to arrive
Wow! My son attends Union College and we stopped at Johnny's during family weekend for dinner on Friday night. It was amazing. Great food, great service, and the Italian nachos were to die for! Definitely recommend to anyone in the area looking for a good place to dine.
Chicken marsala ok, not real marsala
Chocolate bomb cake-run of the mill chocolate cake.
10 year old didn't like his dinner and they exchanged it with no charge excellent
Ordered Stoli on the rocks and got charged $2 extra for "Rocks"...really?
Service was good when the waitress was there. Had to ask for her several times.
Had a great time. Was my birthday dinner. I'm a huge chicken parmigiana fan, also make it myself and it was probably the best I've ever had! Huge portion, loved the penne pasta that was underneath the chicken. Never had it served like that before! Was perfect. And loved the olive oil with balsamic vinegar and bread in the beginning of the meal. Overall great experience and can't wait to go again.
We were very excited for our date night at Johnny's. We had been before about a year ago and had a great experience. We will have to remember that because this time it was atrocious! From trying to get us to take a lousy table to hair in our food, a nightmare. We were greeted by two young women at the hostess station. We gave our name and one asked if we realized that when we booked on open table that we booked a bar table. Um, no! It just said standard table which one would assume is a dining room table. Ridiculous! We were to wait to see what they could do. We were seated at a tiny table for two just inside the dining room against a wall. Zero ambience. We were greeted by a young man who poured us water and brought bread with olive oil and vinegar. Catherine C was our server. She got us our drinks and asked if we were ready to order. We asked to order appetizers first. Our appetizers were served and she asked if we wanted to order our entrees so we did. The arancini were delicious and the sauce was good. My husband had the fried mozzarella which was plentiful and tasty until he noticed the hair on his plate. The server never checked in with us after appetizers were delivered. When we told our server about the hair when she cleared our dishes, she said it was cheese. It wasn't! She laughed.
Entrees were served by a runner who didn't know the difference between the veal marshal and the chicken piccata. The veal was so tough it needed to be cut with a steak knife and amongst the vegetables in the piccata...another hair. Done. We never saw our server again until she came to clear. She NEVER checked on us after food was delivered. We were so disgusted we just asked for our check. We should have asked for the manager but we were just done with it. I am amazed at how awful everything except the arancini was. Maybe their new ventures at the Rivers Casino has left this restaurant not properly attended to. Such a shame. Never again! Will never recommend to anyone!
We went to celebrate a milestone family birthday. As always, the meal was terrific, the service the best around, the menu expansive and, we found to our surprise, the birthday girl was given a free dessert for the occasion in honor of her special day. All in all, there are many good reasons to visit Johnny's, and no reason not to. The best restaurant in downtown Schenectady, in my opinion. Try it!
My wife and I took a night out and went to Johnny's. This was our first visit. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. She, first, seated us in the bar section but we asked for the restaurant side, and we were moved with no problem. Our waiter was pleasant, humorous and knowledgeable. We were served bread ( fabulous) and a prepared oil and vinegar dip (I've had better).
My wife ordered an eggplant rolatini (sp) and I ordered rigatoni with meatballs and sausage. My wife loved her dish. I loved the sauce, rigatoni and meatballs. The sausage , however, was hard and dry. Not tasteful or flavorful at all, in my opinion. The pasta fagiola soup was excellent, though heavy on the beans.
This is my favorite restaurant in the tri-cities area. Every time I go to Proctors I always make a reservation for pre or post show dining. Please have dinner there, you will not be disappointed. It will quickly become one of your favorites too.
Even had to change my reservation from 2 to 3 people two nights before my reservation. No problem.
The food was pretty average, I've had much better at other places, and this is my second time....plain oil and vinegar for dipping bread, (no spices/herbs/garlic) bread was warm, but meh. No fresh grated Parmesan, only in a shaker, calamari was rubbery and sauces were basic, some kind of a mayo/aioli ...the ambiance is good fir a drink and maybe and app....the chicken wings looked good
We had an excellent time at Johnny's Restaurant on Wednesday, February 22, 2017. The hostess was extremely nice as we had a reservation but she was able to provide us with a table up front near the bar, since we love to hear the Mia Scirocco Trio. Also, the food was excellent. Maybe since we are both Italian, and this is by far the best Italian food around. We will be back soon and will bring the rest of the family!! Thank you for your hospitality.
