The food and service were great! We had reservations and were seated right away, no waiting. Our drinks and food were served in a timely manner as well.
Clams casino is terrible, so was the tiramisu. Dropped $120 with tip on dinner and we didn’t have drinks, I’m not going back, ever. It was my fiancé’s birthday, we’re going out again elsewhere this weekend.
The food was excellent, the service was awesome. I'll definitely go back again !
Food was delicious. A bit disappointed—our waitress specifically mentioned my birthday as she inquired about dessert. Given that, so I didn’t order dessert thinking that, like most other restaurants, a birthday dessert would arrive. One never did. Had I known I would have ordered.
While everyone was friendly and trying to provide speedy service, too many mistakes were made. The waitress forgot my drink and tried to take away a mixed drink before finished. The bus boy then thought the mixed drink was water so filled the rest of the mixed drink with water. Good was taken away before finished and the homemade waste was overcooked and mooshy for all three meals at our table. We were excited to finally get a reservation since we had heard great things but were sadly disappointed. Maybe it was just a bad night.
Johnny’s everything about it is great!
Alyssa H was a terrific waitress helpful and attentive. :)
Arrived early for dinner and sat at the bar. Service was great, house wines were surprising and pretty good, as well as their other drinks. Were seated right at the time of our reservation. Dinner came out pretty fast. The home made pasta was amazing, definitely have to try that with any dish. Will be headed back again very soon.
We chose Johnny's for our family "pre Christmas" dinner. We had a great table near the back of the restaurant. It was warm and cozy. Food and service was, as always, excellent! We will make this our annual family get together.
Johnny's is a nice spot across from Proctor's, a great location for dinner before a show. Unlike the experience of a few other reviewers, our service was quite good. Despite a nearly full house, we were seated promptly and our server was pleasant, knowledgeable and attentive without being intrusive. My wife's pasta and shrimp special was well prepared and tasty. My veal marsala was disappointing. The meat was OK with the exception of some gristle in one piece. The sauce was bland brown gravy with a few mushrooms but not a hint of marsala wine.
My experience here was not a pleasant one. I had a reservation for 3 at a hightop table at 7:30 on Saturday night which had been confirmed hours before arriving. I looked forward to this evening for over a week. The chunky hostess wearing the hideous black lipstick was not very pleasant, in fact, she became quite rude after I called her out on giving my table away to a couple who arrived 20 minutes after us with no reservation as we continued to wait. She then stuck us at a table in the overly crowded extremely loud bar area with quite an attitude. That particular table was empty the entire time we waited for our reservation which did not make us very happy. We couldnt sit in the dining area like all the other folks who came in after us WITHOUT a reservation? We waited another 20 minutes before I finally got up from the table to find a waitress to serve us being no one seemed to care we were sitting there, after all, it was the bar area. Our waitress was pleasant but never brought my husband's beer until I asked another server to check on it after waiting 15 minutes for her to return. I ordered a seltzer water with cranberry but she brought me a plain seltzer water with lime. Surprisingly our food was delicious which was a good thing and she got that right. After we paid and left at 9:00, it had been snowing and as we were walking out directly out front of the restaurant, no one had salted or shoveled the area and my 6 foot 250 pound husband slipped and lost his footing and fell hard, twisting his entire body. A man from Proctors ran across the street to assist after witnessing the fall. I contacted the Mayors office when I arrived back home and received a call back from their legal department today. I'm extremely disappointed with our visit there and will not come back nor will I recommend this restaurant to any of my friends and family.
Food and service were fabulous! I can't wait to go back.
Phenomenal place. Best calamari appetizer we've ever had. Great menu choices, wide range of wines to choose from and wonderful desserts. Can't wait to go again!
Our server was outstanding but when we arrive for our 5pm reservation we had to wait. The lady greeting us at the door was just starting to setup what tables each wait staff would cover, we ended up waiting with 5 other couples and a 6th ended up leaving. This was a little annoying since it should have been done before paying customers began to arrive
Friendly and upbeat environment. Great food! Will definitely be choosing this restaurant for future visits.
Wow! My son attends Union College and we stopped at Johnny's during family weekend for dinner on Friday night. It was amazing. Great food, great service, and the Italian nachos were to die for! Definitely recommend to anyone in the area looking for a good place to dine.
I brought my wife there for her birthday to try someplace new and spoken of well by others. Ambiance was very urban but pleasant. Waiter was bubbly and friendly. Food was excellent. Free Birthday Cake was a treat and delicious.
Will come back someday!
Great tasting food and the wait staff was very friendly without being intrusive. Semi-quiet atmosphere inside and a good band outside. Right in the middle of it for Schenectady. convenient to get to and worth the trip.
We were taking our son on an overnight college visit and wanted to find a good restaurant for dinner. Johnny's was amazing. Their rice balls are off the charts!
Whenever I am in Schenectady on business I go to Johnny's for dinner. Excellent service and quality of food preparation. I highly recommend Johnny's for your next dinner out.
Enjoyed our evening at Johnny's. The fried calamari was one of the best I've ever had. All the pasta is made fresh on the premises. The service was great. Definitely make a reservation or you'll have to wait! Will be going back again for sure.
Chicken marsala ok, not real marsala
Chocolate bomb cake-run of the mill chocolate cake.
10 year old didn't like his dinner and they exchanged it with no charge excellent
Ordered Stoli on the rocks and got charged $2 extra for "Rocks"...really?
Service was good when the waitress was there. Had to ask for her several times.
Johnny's never disappoints! Had a special request they fulfilled without blinking an eye! Can be noisy, but otherwise a great spot!
Food and service were great. The only downside was the music on the outdoor patio, which was loud enough that it was hard to hear the person across the table speaking. We will definitely return.
Food was very very good!
It was crowded, therefore the background noise level was very high. This made it hard to hear the waitress and my husband from across the table.
Overall quite good. Calamari app was too salty though and hubby's steak was overcooked. A little pricey but good.
Never disappointed. We do wish there was at least one non dairy options for dessert aside from fruit though.
The food was good but the service was very strange and slow. We would ike to go back on a better night and not be seated in the bar area where it was harder to be noticed by the servers.
Dishes were different when we last dined but still enjoyable.
Home made Pasta, great service reasonably priced
Food was terrible. This place has definitely gone down hill. The service was good, but it was so loud everywhere that you couldn't hear the person across from you. Don't be going back.
Had a great time. Was my birthday dinner. I'm a huge chicken parmigiana fan, also make it myself and it was probably the best I've ever had! Huge portion, loved the penne pasta that was underneath the chicken. Never had it served like that before! Was perfect. And loved the olive oil with balsamic vinegar and bread in the beginning of the meal. Overall great experience and can't wait to go again.
We were very excited for our date night at Johnny's. We had been before about a year ago and had a great experience. We will have to remember that because this time it was atrocious! From trying to get us to take a lousy table to hair in our food, a nightmare. We were greeted by two young women at the hostess station. We gave our name and one asked if we realized that when we booked on open table that we booked a bar table. Um, no! It just said standard table which one would assume is a dining room table. Ridiculous! We were to wait to see what they could do. We were seated at a tiny table for two just inside the dining room against a wall. Zero ambience. We were greeted by a young man who poured us water and brought bread with olive oil and vinegar. Catherine C was our server. She got us our drinks and asked if we were ready to order. We asked to order appetizers first. Our appetizers were served and she asked if we wanted to order our entrees so we did. The arancini were delicious and the sauce was good. My husband had the fried mozzarella which was plentiful and tasty until he noticed the hair on his plate. The server never checked in with us after appetizers were delivered. When we told our server about the hair when she cleared our dishes, she said it was cheese. It wasn't! She laughed.
Entrees were served by a runner who didn't know the difference between the veal marshal and the chicken piccata. The veal was so tough it needed to be cut with a steak knife and amongst the vegetables in the piccata...another hair. Done. We never saw our server again until she came to clear. She NEVER checked on us after food was delivered. We were so disgusted we just asked for our check. We should have asked for the manager but we were just done with it. I am amazed at how awful everything except the arancini was. Maybe their new ventures at the Rivers Casino has left this restaurant not properly attended to. Such a shame. Never again! Will never recommend to anyone!
My favorite restaurant!! Great location in Schenectady, would recommend to everyone!
We went to celebrate a milestone family birthday. As always, the meal was terrific, the service the best around, the menu expansive and, we found to our surprise, the birthday girl was given a free dessert for the occasion in honor of her special day. All in all, there are many good reasons to visit Johnny's, and no reason not to. The best restaurant in downtown Schenectady, in my opinion. Try it!
My wife and I took a night out and went to Johnny's. This was our first visit. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. She, first, seated us in the bar section but we asked for the restaurant side, and we were moved with no problem. Our waiter was pleasant, humorous and knowledgeable. We were served bread ( fabulous) and a prepared oil and vinegar dip (I've had better).
My wife ordered an eggplant rolatini (sp) and I ordered rigatoni with meatballs and sausage. My wife loved her dish. I loved the sauce, rigatoni and meatballs. The sausage , however, was hard and dry. Not tasteful or flavorful at all, in my opinion. The pasta fagiola soup was excellent, though heavy on the beans.
Delicious food and dessert. Very quick service
Excellent food and service - a very nice evening out!
Excellent food, varied menu to please everyone , attentive wait staff!! Can't wait to go back!
Food and service were excellent! Convenient location across from the theatre. Server is very conscious of theatre time and in helping you arrive on time. I have had many entrees there, but always wish I had room to eat more!
Great place. I would go there again.
