Johnny's Cafe Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I celebrated Valentines Day at Johnny's. We both had veal Oscar. It was delicious. The veal was perfectly cooked. It was loaded with giant lumps of crab meat and just the right amount of hollandaise sauce. The wine was a generous pour and a great quality for the price. The server William was very professional great service Finally the desert was a 6 layer dark chocolate cake huge portion. We ate half and took home the other half. I think it might have been the best tasting chocolate cake I have ever eaten.
Food was great but the service was not. We have been to Johnny's and this is the first time our service was not good. It seemed our waiter was "in the weeds" throughout the evening- not able to get second drinks, water not refilled; he wasn't able to check on us throughout our meal. Rushed at the end of the night- no coffee or dessert.
This was my second time at Johnny's Café, the first being with a couple of girlfriends during the Christmas holidays in 2016. The first time, their Frank Sinatra entertainer was playing, and he was wonderful. The food was also amazing. This time, another girlfriend joined me for a post-holiday get-together. Although it was Sunday night, Mr. Frank Sinatra was not playing, but that was OK, as my friend and I were catching up with chit-chat. Again, our meals were excellent. The only reason I rated the food "very good" was that my ricotta pie dessert seemed a bit over-baked. Everything else was delicious! Our server, William, was top-notch! Very friendly, good recommendations, and attentive. It was a slow night, only one or two other parties, which made for a quiet, extremely enjoyable evening. The decor and ambiance are lovely, somewhat art deco. I would definitely recommend Johnny's, at least for the off-season, and get a comfy booth, if possible....adds to the charm. I have not been there during the summer, but I expect it is hopping!
THe service was especially attentive and charming but in a nice, uninterfering way. Dinner was very good- not creative but well prepared standards with a little twist and reasonably priced- An attractive high end place with style. GOod for a date or a group .
Are experience was slightly annoying. We had a waiter who was waiting for his first. I have him a break on many issues. For instance he brought me the wrong dish. When straightened out the food was great. When it was time to pay the bill he was nowhere to be seen. After 20 plus minutes I have the check to a different waiter. I know it was his first day working so I give him a break. The food was great and I will be back.
Enjoyed a great meal Friday night. Generally we avoid the restaurant during summer season as it’s way too noisy and crowded . Shout out to William our awesome waiter. They have fantastic meatballs. Always some nice specials. I had veal parm on the bone. Was very good but a little too heavily breaded. Husband had seafood pasta special. He liked it a lot. Their red sauce is wonderful. It’s not a byo and we enjoy being able to order a cocktail.
We have been to the restaurant about 20 times,my children, who are summer residents about another 20. For the first time ever the service was so poor it actually ruined our $150 dinner and our evening. The ironic part was they were not even busy. We have discussed spending our money at another restaurant ,which there are plenty to choose from. PS the teramsu was a week old and lousy.
Very, very LOUD! Service was very good. Specials were inticing but we had to ask how much each one was very trendy restaurant. Great to people watch. As for the food it wasn't horrible, but it also wasn't something I'll be running back for either. The prices I felt were a bit high for such a payed back restaurant, that doesn't even have a dress code. If I'm paying top dollar for apps, salad, entrees, I don't appreciate people walking in looking like they just walked off the beach. Also children should not be allowed to have volume in there electronics. I didn't appreciate eating and hearing "Dora The Explorer" blasting at the table next to me. Disappointing , best part of our night was our wIter "Willam". Who was extremely professional and made sure we had everything.
Oh and the ladies room was filfthy, another turn off.
The music was so loud in the back room that it ruined the whole night. We sat by the front windows in the back room and the music was piercing . We asked the hostess to turn it down and they did a little but still shrilling.(instant headache)The three of us couldn't hear each other. It was like trying to lipread what the waiter was saying . The food was good. We shared a shrimp cocktail/crab appetizer, a Bibb lettuce salad, egg plant rollentine, and their nonna's meatballs. We're professional locals but taking this spot off our list.
