Johnnie's Hideaway Ratings and Reviews
Dinner was great. Food was excellent. Very pricey to add shrimp. Cocktails were great. Service started out poor, but ended much better. Host sat a couple right by us and there were seats open in the entire restaurant, we had asked for a private table. The couple that they sat were intoxicated and made our $400 dinner a joke. They need to be more aware of what is around them and not seat people by what the computer tells them.
Outdoor seats wete so uncomfortable I had to keep standing. Seats are metal and so deep couldn't reach table!!
Time between salad and entree was so long we almost left. When steak finally arrived it tasted like a salt shaker. Awful meal for a costly price. Gave the service 3 stars because the server was trying his best and was pleasant.
Several time customer. Never know what to expect. Have had very good food and service, but have also, and most recently, had not so good experiences. Its a high volume facility that does a lot of business. Maybe thats the best they can do considering so much volume, but there are better restaurants in the area and I doubt if I will return to Johnnie’s.
Had a wonderful evening. Matt may have been our best server ever, and we eat out a lot! Tomahawk steak was great. Madagascar shrimp was good, but not spectacular. Lobster mac n cheese mixed tableside was great. Matt made it special evening by making us comfortable with our choice to eat family style.
We had a 7:30 reservation and were seated at 7:50. After 20 minutes we hadn't been waited on, not even a glass of water, so I went back to the hostess station. She brought us water and I asked to speak to a manager. Manager #1 came to our table we told him our situation and he said "I'm sorry you had to go through that" left the table and returned with a two piece bite sized unidentifiable nibble and told us he would expedite our order. Never saw him again. 30 minutes in, the waiter comes by and we ordered a bottle of wine & a shrimp cocktail. He tells us they are understaffed and apologizes for the wait. 45 mins in we still don't have our wine and another server stops by to see if we need anything. We told him about the wine and he said he'd get it. 1 hour in, our wine finally comes. The helper server proceeds to tell us our server is new and hasn't worked a busy night yet. I ask to speak with the manager enter manager #2. He apologizes and says he's going to take care of our wine and appetizers. And assures us that he will be nearby and overseeing the rest of meal. The waiter takes the order at the next table and so we flag him down to order our salads, entrees and sides. He disappears. 35 minutes later our dinner comes and we haven't had our salads. The server delivering the food offers to take it back until after our salads, said they would recook our order, but we didn't want to waste the food and at this point we just wanted to get on with our meal. So, we accepted the food, and then the salads came out right after. And all of this is on the table along with the two extra place settings/water and wine glasses as the two of us were seated at a 4 person booth.
My husband ordered the ribeye medium rare and it had a "medium" temp marker in it. I ordered the seafood platter and it wasn't warm. We ate. We waved down manager #3 and she cleared our plates & brought the check, which included the wine & apps. We were glad to leave. 😞
The food was excellent. There was a large group right by our table, which made the noise level too high at times. BUT, this was primarily from about 4 people at the table. We had a server that admitted he was only there around 3 weeks and his service level showed it. We sat without drinks at times for over 20 minutes. I would try it again with hopes of better service.
I think the food was ok but didn't live up to the expectation that had been created by the waiter - who actually suggested my original choice was not what they were famous for and suggested I try something else, which I stupidly did. The food was seriously overpriced and the portions so large that around half of what was served was returned and we were told thrown into the trash - what a waste. So we all felt we have overpaid for too much average food. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant, it seems to me its reputation far outweighs what it actually delivers and it certainly is not good value for money. I wont go back.
Plain fish dishes were very well done, but everything else had too much cheese and salt. Complimentary salad was all vinegar and salt. Nice view but noise was deafening. Crab bisque was delicious but tepid. Calamari were good but also barely warm. Main course arrived when appetizers were half/eaten. Bad timing.
Food (8 oz filet) cooked poorly three times. Burnt then raw steak. 3rd time almost made it to medium rare. Second visit in a row where at least one dish cooked very poorly. Last time a scallop dish repeatedly butchered. Most interesting is that even though the same female manager came over and apologized both visits, neither time did she offer to take the item off the bill even though that member of our group ate alone. No free dessert offer, nothing. Had we not been with acquaintances I would have told this lady how unhappy that made us. Clearly there is a management level or higher policy not to make concessions on your bill even when the item cooked poorly on multiple occasions. Too bad. Penny wise and pound foolish. We have brought many people to this restaurant but their failure to properly handle poorly cooked food will effect our excitement to return anytime soon.
Until our latest dining , Johnnies was our favorite steak house when in Orlando. Do not know what the problem was, but they did a terrible job of cooking our steaks for my News Years Day Birthday.
Do not plan to return any time soon.
My fiancé and I came to Johnnies to avoid the chain restaurants near by and wanted fine dining to celebrate our recent engagement and also bringing in the New Year. We ordered starters which the Fried Gator was the best thing we ordered all night. We also had the garlic Parmesan oysters which were exceptional. Our Cocktails came full of ice so barely and beverage and then we ordered ribeye steak and my fiancé ordered a scallop Dinner and added shrimp to his dish. I wasn't satisfied with the food! Our waitress was AMAZING and tried to throughly explained each option on the menu we were interested in. She was also very patient with us taking a bit longer to decide. We received our food and I wasn't satisfied AT ALL! My fiancée dish only came with his scallops so he added shrimp and the garlic mashed potatoes. The potatoes were very dry! Not only that he barely received any scallops, so I was wondering what he would have received if he didn't order any add ons. There was a lady seated behind us who ordered the same dish and was played with much more scallops as we seen her plate when she was served. So that was upsetting. I ordered a Ribeye steak and it came with a salad that had many toppings that I don't eat so I asked to have a Caesar instead which I'm glad I did because it was the only part of my meal I liked. The potatoes that came with my meal were the same as my fiancé and they were dry as well. I asked for a steak with LOTS of flavor and that steak only lacked flavor. I thought being at a high end restaurant that I'd get what I'm paying for but unfortunately that was the case for us. To top the experience off we were seated in a private room with 6 tables. 5 of the 6 tables were seated including us, however there was only 1 party seated prior to us. Each party including the 1 that was there prior to us was greeted by the restaurant manger while dining. Even 3 tables that were seated after us. She passed us each time and finally came to us when we had our bill.
Great food. Prices on dishes do not include sides. Sides have to be purchased, however this allows you to control what you get with your dish. Seafood cooked perfectly every time we go. Scallops have never been overcooked! Waiters are always friendly. Great for an anniversary dinner or special outing.
I expected better from a Talk of the Town restaurant. Our meal was just ok. I have had better meals at Carrabas & Bonefish. I guess what I am saying is if charging top dollar for food the food should be great. It wasn't. Our server was just Ok as well. Our best experience was the gentleman that made our baked potato table side. That was the most tasty part of our meal & nice guy prepared it.
Sadly we got here on an 'off' night. The fried fish platter that I remembered as something special was a bit soggy. The service was good but a little slow for my taste. Its always hard to come to places this near the attractions and hope for a great experience. Does everyone visiting here now wear a baseball cap at the dinner table?
Food was mediocre. Appetizer ordered was Escargot and it was not seasoned. Filet entrees tasted frozen. Temp was correct but outside of steak had no sear, was gray in color and had an odd texture. Scallop entree was swimming in a heavy cream sauce. The salads are interesting. It’s Iceberg lettuce with a hidden mound of potato salad in the center and an array of olives, chick peas and beets tossed in for good measure. We expected more.
Johnnie's has been a main staple for us for over 8 years and we never get tired of it (even though we miss Mary). We love hanging by the bar with Neil, April and everyone else. Great food, hand-crafted drinks, and EXCELLENT STAFF!!! For a romantic night out, we either look to get seated in their scenic back room or on cooler days on their patio overlooking the lake. Rhonda made us feel very special on our anniversary! And there simply isn't a better place for STONE CRAB CLAWS - all year round!
We have dined here before on previous visits to Orlando. The food is outstanding! Steaks are great in flavor and texture, and the service is always perfect.
This is the perfect place for a celebration. Although on the pricey side, the value more than makes up for this. Having tried the theme park steak houses - there is no comparison in value for your dollar. The portions are generous, so take home what's left. We had enough for at least another meal!
