Johnnie's Hideaway Ratings and Reviews
I have been to Johnies many times and have enjoyed it in the past. This time the food was below par and the service was poor.
The stone crabs were very good, but the chicken was dry and flavorless. I know I shouldn't get chicken in a fish/steak place, but it sounded good with double breast cooked in a skillet with garlic sauce. It was almost inedible, but I did not want to complain, as the waitress was difficult to track down and I did not want to wait another 30 mins. They removed the bread and alcoholic drinks before they were finished and most of the night my tea sat empty.
Maybe just a bad day for a normally good restaurant.
We spent around $300, had drinks, etc. The steak (tbone) was not seasoned very well and came out too cold. The lobster tail was too charred on the outside to eat. The buerre blanc sauce was very bland. The salad...get rid of it. Good food doesnt have to be so complicated when there are great ingredients... potatoe salad, chickpeas, beets and italian style dressing...bleck. u guys can do better than that. Keep it simple...follow Bonefish on the basic salad recipe. We wont be back unfortunately. The value for the food want there either. Service was very good. Friendly waiter.
There was a frantic, overwhelmed feeling at this restaurant on Valentines Day. We were seated at a high top table on the outdoor deck which was very close to a busy interstate. Our waitperson apologized for delays and said it was caused by another waitperson fainting and having to leave. Steaks weren't cooked as ordered, dirty dishes weren't cleared from the table, and the prices were extremely high. We regret having selected Johnnie's and won't return.
I was in town for a business tradeshow and was looking for a place to get together with a couple of friends and found this fabulous restaurant on OpenTable. Fabulous outdoor dining setting, great live music during dinner, awesome menu, and a great wine selection. If ever back in the Orlando area would absolutely dine there again!
Was a returning customer took my wife here for Valentine’s Day, arrived on time for my reservation was told over booked by taking 800 reservation thy said I️ would be waiting over 2 hours there where a lot of people who have been waiting there hours as well who had reservation totally ruined our valantines dinner we left without dinner
Reservations don’t matter, was rudely told at reservation time that they’ll hopefully have a table in an hour or so and that I’d be notified via text. Ended up finding somewhere else to eat and never got a table notification. Complete waste of time, don’t even bother with this place.
I have dine here before and had great experiences prior. When I dine on 2/14/18 it was the worst restaurant experience I ever received in my entire life. We ordered appetizers, they were over cooked. The the sushi was served only with wasabi the waiter didn’t even bring soy sauce. We ordered our entree at the same time as the appetizers. These items were ordered before 5 other guests at different tables. All 5 of those tables received their appetizers and entree before us. We waited 3 and a half hours for our food, which was not even tasty. We asked for a manager, she came after we got the check and didn’t even apologize for the service we received. Apart from that the guests from the different tables, on their way out apologize to us because they saw how we were treat that night. I am speaking the truth here and I am not looking for any freebies. You guys suck. On top of it all we still left a tip for the waiter with the service we received. I would never attend Johnnies Hideaway again or ever recommend it.
When we arrived, we were told upon check in, with a reservation, that they were running two hours behind. Literally people walked way and left. We spoke with a manager and got seated in 5 mins. The manager was awesome. The woman who checked us in was rude, full of silly excuses (“Open Table over booked us) and brushed us off when we said we were not waiting until 9:45 to be seated. Clearly they don’t know how to handle V-Day crowds
Johnnie's Hideaway is typically SO amazing! Hence why we chose it for Valentine's Day!
We felt SUPER bad for all of the staff, everyone had a panicked look on the their faces constantly. Apparently there were many call-outs from the servers and a few terminations.
However, BAD BEHAVIOR like missing your scheduled reservation time should not be rewarded with being allowed to be seated next in line. We were NOT late for our reservation and had to wait 50 minutes to be seated due to others being late. People should be held accountable for not pre-planning the evening...traffic and all.
Sadly, our food was rubber and cold - not a usual experience.
We had limited time because we hired a sitter, we needed to depart by 9:30pm to arrive home on time, we received our entrees at 9:20pm. It was speed eating at it's finest. Not exactly what you want for a fine dining restaurant experience.
Our server was very friendly and doing the very best she could! She was a pleasant part of the evening.
Overall, we waited too long for a reservation, the food was unusually bad, the atmosphere was stressful and it was not a romantic Valentine's Day.
We will never go back on a 'busy' holiday evening again, we expect more from JH than this.
Took 3 hours to eat dinner. Had a reservation (on Open Table) and they lost it. Was told they were running late. Went to the bar to get a couple of drinks while we had to wait and that took 30 minutes because the bartender ignored me. Very bad organization. Food average and prices high.
I hate to give a bad review, but, our dining experience was mediocre, at best. It was Valentine’s Day. Maybe that was the problem. Even with an Open Table Reservation, we had to wait 45 minutes after our reservation time, before our table was ready. We ordered drinks and waited at the bar. The best food we had was fried shrimp that servers brought into the bar area to give away to patrons who were waiting for a table. The fried shrimp was perfect! My husband’s steak was cold. My lobster was over cooked. And we waited forever at our table for our food to arrive. It was basically three hours wasted.
We have been here a few times before and don't usually have a problem with our visit which is why out of all the restaurants to choose from in the Doctor Phillips Orlando area we decided to come here. This was valentines day and early in the evening at 530pm.
I am not one to complain but the service was mediocre. It took at least 15 minutes to get any drinks and then it appears that our server outside wasn't around a lot due to the fact that he had to cover someone else's shift. He wasn't very knowledgeable about the valentines day specials which slowed the process down a bit.
We ordered steak and lobster and both our meals came out cold. We were going to send it back but we we're extremely hungry and due to the service and the entire situation there we didn't I think it was worth sending back. I understand it was Valentine's Day and things do happen but unfortunately it was at our expense. Neither of us were truly happy about our special celebration there. Since we've had decent food and service before we will come back but not excited about it.
Upscale seafood restaurant. We went for Valentine's Day and each had the Valentine special, a 6 oz filet paired with lobster tail. Service was excellent. We both ordered our steaks medium but they came out medium rare. This was rectified and the steaks were melt-in-your-mouth tender. Neither me or my wife had ever had a caribbean lobster tail before and found them to be bland. (Being from the northeast, we are used to north atlantic lobster). Otherwise it was a very pleasurable experience.
I recall the food being more memorable on previous visits. The salad was a bit wilty and overwhelmed by dressing; the fish a bit overcooked and lacking any distinct flavors and the service only energetic and enthusiastic when it was time to upsell the next course.
Our first experience at Johnny's was on Valentine's Day 2017. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of food and the service, especially given how busy the restaurant was. We have since gone back four more times and have been disappointed each time, especially on our last visit. We sat on the patio and the music was so loud that we couldn't hold a conversation. The wine that was served was old, our wedge salad which is very large and easily shared had about 1 TBSP of dressing on it. We asked for more and were given about 2 Tbsp more, hardly enough for one of the wedges. Our waitress was kind and accommodating, but she hardly had time to help us. I think perhaps they were understaffed. So, we will not go back even though we tried several times to make it work.
We dined here on a Monday--all you can eat Stone Crab Claws. They did not disappoint. I started with a great Caesar salad, which made for a good pre-dinner salad the next day. Service was attentive and friendly. A bite or two of Carrot Cake, and the rest went hoe as well. That lasted two more days:) Point is, large portions!
What a waste of time & money. First, our table wobbled so much our server called it a “surfboard.” He wedged some stuff under the legs & got it stable, after about 10 minutes. Then I ordered a Pinot Grigio...and got a Pinot noir. Forgivable, so then we get our entrees which were ok, but the baked potato we ordered was cold. The jerk who brought it mixed shredded cheese into it that never melted, then got an attitude when we asked where the butter, sour cream, bacon & chives were. We told our server & a manager came over, but was only focused on the “cold potato.” She took that off the bill, which was good, but the whole experience (and food) sucked. We had lunch at Coopers Hawk which was LEAGUES better than this place and half the price. Don’t waste your time & hard-earned money here...not at all worth it.
My family and I have been going to Johnnie’s Hideaway a few times a month because we usually love the experience and the food. This time it was terrible. They’ve changed management, did not want to honor a birthday special received in an email (we are VIPs at Talk of the Town Restaurants). The waiter took forever bringing out the food and messed up the check that had us waiting at least another 45 minutes.
