Delicious, farm fresh food. Everything was perfectly cooked and fresh. Our drinks were fantastic too. We will be back!
Frequent this restaurant often. The food is always excellent. Service superb
Everything was very good but we weren't aware that they had a Prefix Menu in place for the whole Mother's Day Weekend or we wouldn't have gone. They should state that on Open Table.
Our daughter’s graduation from F&M. The food was amazing and service was attentive but not intrusive! A wonderful commemoration of a fabulous occasion! We’re sorry to be leaving Lancaster.
Excellent food, locally sourced, and great attentive service. The Steak Tartare was sublime. Everything was excellent! Don’t know what else I can say about it. Not a cheap place to eat, but you aren’t going here for a quick bite, you’re going for a culinary experience.
Excellent in every respect. Intriguing menu, every option in our party of three was a hit. A great place for a special celebration.
We had friends from the Netherlands with us and the great food and excellent service was everything we described to them and more. Thanks for the great evening!
Our new favorite place to go! Love trying new foods and flavors with their changing menu. Have never been disappointed!
Food was very good and kitchen gladly accommodated for food allergy and replaced a dish quickly.
This special occasion restaurant continues to amaze and delight us. They had on record our anniversary date and greeted us with a glass of champagne. Our shared first courses of a beet/quinoa salad was original and refreshing, and the beer tartare is a long standing favorite. The main course of sea bass was one of the best we've ever had anywhere; it was perfectly cooked. Made for a perfect celebration.
I am a retired travel writer and spoiled, also very easily annoyed. It has been my job to dine at far too many Michelin toque restaurants, and my idea of a delightful meal is one eaten at home.
I expected some pretension and showmanship, as it is advertised as a serious if not quite gourmet establishment.
Nobody but me wore a jacket. The waiter was informative and genial without being oppressive in the slightest. The blonde millennial at reception was almost comatose with indifference when I tried to explain a minor hiccup in our reservation.
The food came exceptionally quickly [I live in Europe] and was perfection. I chose maybe the simplest dish, having seen in previous experiences what Americans think is risotto, for example. But next time I would be more trusting.
Questions I asked regarding provenance of the water buffalo and about seasonal items were answered impeccably, and without undue elaboration.
One of the owners came to chat, something I usually abhor, and it was charming beyond belief.
I cannot wait to go back and work my way through the menu.
The service at John J Jeffries was beyond poor and the arrogant attitude of the staff was appalling. The food was OK but nothing special.
We picked the restaurant based on its website. When we arrived with our young son the host gave us a condescending look before taking us to our table. The rest of the night they seemed to ignore us as much as possible - not offering us more to drink, not offering our son a fork to eat his fish with etc. They seemed focused on getting us to leave as soon as possible.
Our son was quiet and none of the guests seemed bothered by him - on the contrary they smiled at him and treated him like he was a guest like anyone else. It says a lot about a restaurant that they don’t treat all guests equally - and in this instance I must say that the quality of the food and venue did not justify the arrogant service. This place clearly thinks too highly of themselves!
It was fine. Good service. Not great hostess. Nice place.
We had a nice quiet table. Fresh salmon and risotto was fabulous. Great service in an amazing arts hotel.
food and service was great, look forward to eating there again
Repeat visit and was not disappointed.. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly and helpful with food, wine and the source of grass fed beef
The food was excellent and we especially enjoyed the service provided by our waiter, John. And all his assistants were very friendly and courteous. Felt special.
I love this place. It's almost worth a trip to Lancaster just to eat here. Better food than I've had at a lot of upscale New York restaurants at a fraction of the price. Delicious, local food that is traditional but still creative.
We had dinner here for our anniversary. Our waiter offered us our choice of two glasses of champagne or two desserts to celebrate our special occasion. (We opted for the dessert--housemade ice cream and a pecan tart for my husband). The service was excellent--timing was just right; we had the perfect amount of time to enjoy each course. My husband had the onion soup and a trout entree. I had Greek salad, spinach/asparague bisque and a small plate of crayfish and grits. Everything was delicous. The chef's tasting spoon was a potato asparagus soup--also very tasty, and another special touch. We ate inside as it was a cool evening, but I am looking forward to returning and dining outside.
A pleasant evening spent celebrating our 27th anniversary.
Of course, the food is prepared to perfection (so the chef must think, since there are no salt and pepper on the tables). Chef's tasting menu was a surprise.
Husband's meatloaf was tender and flavorful, and the mashed potatoes were declared to be delicious.
My braised tongue taco starter was perfectly tender - it reminded me of home in San Diego. The main dish of T-bone pork chop melted in my mouth.
Dessert was the perfect ending.
Our waiter was interactive, intelligent, and displayed a sense of humor.
Notably, the seating is comfortable, something often lacking in restaurants. Food to be taken home is boxed in the kitchen, where it should be, not at tableside.
Management was immediately tableside when she sensed confusion on our part when using a gift card.
Yes, we will return.
Consistently one of our absolute best dining experiences!! Clearly the Lancaster area’s top restaurant!
We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and opted to go to John Jeffries, as that's where we usually go when we're celebrating something special. We purposely went early so as to sit at the bar for a bit and have a drink before dinner. Love the bar vibe - great bartenders, right on top of your order. We're fond of the Colonial margarita and The Other Wilson - highly suggest both drinks. We had opted to select a few small plates to share, ones that we hadn't tried before, however once our server went over the specials for the day, we both changed our minds! My husband enjoyed the flat iron steak with roasted fingerling potatoes and greens, and I had the Artic Char with asparagus risotto. Both excellent choices, done perfectly. The dining room wasn't overly full, which was nice. The group sitting next to us was quite chatty however it didn't interrupt our dinner at all. Our server (cannot remember his name, tall guy, with wire rim glasses) is one that we've had before and we always enjoy his company. If you're looking for a unique dining experience, check this place out - you will not be disappointed.
One person in our party was vegan and although there were no specific vegan options on the menu, the staff bent over backwards to accommodate us. Very impressive customer service!
Great food!!! A relaxed but upscale venue.
Selection and preparation was excellent. Last time we were here we enjoyed a great duck entree. This time we ate vegetarian and they offered a great tasting entree and starter cheese plate with the best tasting local cheeses. Lots of selections for everybody.
Well done.!!! A great French wine at a reasonable price. My go to spot in Lancaster.
High quality food with an excellent variety dishes . Good atmosphere for a nice dinner. Easy to access free parking.
We went on an off night(Tuesday) for an early dinner. My husband's dinner was very tasty and well presented. The first thing our waitress did is inform us that one of the soups was sold out and one dish the was only available for an upcharge. Because the regular price meal was again sold out. This was at 6:30!! The upcharge meal was a New York Strip steak that was tasteless and tough. Not impressed with the food at all. Won't be going back anytime soon.
We were celebrating our son's new job with he and his wife. The staff, ambiance and menu were outstanding. It was our first time there and we loved the place. The variety of both large and small plates was perfect. Thank you!
We'll be back
Great farm to table restaurant- excellent ingredients and creative meals- perfect for celebrations they treat you well!
Clearly a very fine dining experience. The food was elegantly presented and delicious. Service was worthy of the fine restaurant that it is
The variety of flavors in each dish was exceptional. The waiter was extremely knowledgeable and friendly.
I was very disappointed! My wife and I had a date there and it was our 1st time trying John J Jeffereis and I was very disappointed. I ordered the scallops and the price was $36.00 I received 3 scallops and a very bland rice blend. I felt ripped off. I was so hungry when we left we went to checkers and ordered more food. I will not be back and I will not recommend this place to anyone. I am a professional chef and have been for more than 21 years and I understand upscale means less food but come on $36.00 when scallops are going for $18.00 a LB retail and the rice was really bad.
Overall the food was good. Service at the bar and at the table was just ok. Bartender didn’t offer a beer list when we asked for a beer. He not very accommodating at all. Our service was the same, went over some menu selections but we listened to another server go into great detail about everything on the menu. We didn’t feel welcomed at all for our whole meal. It was very disappointing.
Exceptional service, wonderful and delicious food. Highly recommended
This was one of the best meals of our lives. We live in New Orleans so we've had some amazing meals. We were in Lancaster because our son, Ian, committed to Franklin & Marshall College for next year. This was our last night in town and it was a lovely end to the weekend. Our waiter, Henry, was superb. Extremely knowledgeable and personable. We will most definitely be back many times.
My husband and I love this restaurant! Always a unique menu and fabulous new food to try.
The food was delicious and the service was great. This is a great restaurant.
Excellent attentive service, creative menu and excellent wine and cocktails. Great experience as always
Excellent food & cocktails. The Scottish salmon was superb!
Lovely service, nice atmosphere. Everything great except steak was tough. Vegetables and sauce great. White wine by glass selection not extensive enough. How about a nice, by the glass, French burgundy?
My daughter and I both have celiac disease. Henry was extremely knowledgeable and accommodating to our dietary restrictions. While this in itself is always appreciated, Henry went above and beyond by not only telling us whether a dish was gluten-free, but also by making suggestions for substitutions to ensure that our meals were not only safe, but also as enjoyable as they would have been without any restrictions.
Thank you Henry for making a special night with my daughter perfect.
