We sat down and were given menus pretty promptly. We ordered our food which came out a bit too fast to have been prepared to order. My fried clams and scallops were definitely frozen and tasted like they came out of a Gorton's box. My wife's salad was nearly inedible and was one of the worst she has ever had. Our daughters fish tacos were overdone, and she only ate one of the three. I hope this place goes under if that's the kind of junk they present as food.

One of my favorite places in Cambridge. Easily sits groups. Wish there were more diet beverage choices.

Once our waitress noticed us (10 minutes) the food and drinks were fast. Waitress forgot our requested waters and never made eye contact to get her attention to order more drink (I had to yell across the restaurant).

Disappointed overall. I had been a couple times a few years ago with no complaints but it's definitely gone down hill since then. The service was really poor. It took awhile for our waitress to come over and after we ordered we never saw her until we had to ask someone to get so we could order another round of drinks. The food was good bar food, but there are plenty of other options in the area with just as good of food with a better overall experience.

This is my go-to spot when I'm with a group of friends. The beers are great, they have a full bar with reasonably priced drinks, and the food is excellent! What's best is the service... every server has been welcoming, patient, and gets our orders perfectly.

My partner and I went to JH's for a date, and we had a great time! One of the two cocktails was spectacular (the second, rum-based one) while the other, a Dark and Stormy, was OK. My partner's food was over-peppered, but she sent it back and the over-peppered fish was comped and she got another order of the same, no pepper. The server got us a nice, quiet table, which was great for just having an evening to ourselves. Thank you!

Definitely go for the chicken pot pie for dinner. A light flaky crust, clearly hand made onto the serving bowl was an excellent touch. There was lots of chicken, peas and carrots with a nice sauce. This is great comfort food. The clam chowder and burgers were good too. I also liked the fried calamari with a flavorful tomato based sauce with a little kick to it, bu not too much. Fresh locally made beer on tap is another huge plus. A friend and I brought our sons before going to a college hockey game. Everyone was full and happy. The scene is very loud, with lots of activity - perfect to entertain our 12 year old boys.

Always love John Harvard's! Great large space for adults and kids. The food and beer were great, as always. I had the tasty winter salad. My husband loved the chicken blta sandwich. Delicious!

Looking for dinner before a show at Sanders Theater we were looking for a last minute reservation and few spots were available - Joe Harvard to the rescue. Been there before - reliable, OK food with quality beer choices. My wife had the short rib and I had the shepherd's pie - just to venture away from the basic burgers. We basically had the same meal in a different shape. Meat on the bone one plate, the other ground - same whipped potatoes, sauce, etc. Not bad - quite filling - just nothing to write home about. The best part was the fast service, good beer and making it to our show.

Always fun to be at John Harvard, with lots of energy from a young college crowd. Lots of TVs, lots of noise. Generally good service and food, whole not exceptional, is always tasty. I'm not a beer drinker, but people tell me the craft beers are also worthwhile.

The drinks were great - an excellent hot cider drink especially - but the food was just good - not great. The experience was awkward, as we had a table of 7 and they didn't bring out our apps and tried to bring us just 2 of our entrees... when the others weren't yet ready. We sent them back to get our appetizers... which still didn't come but they brought all of our entrees... two of which were barely warm. The appetizers were free and came 5 minutes or so after our entrees. All the food was good, but we left half the appetizers because we had our meals to eat (some of us trying to eat them while still warm!). Just an okay experience, not something I would recommend to a friend visiting Boston, for fear they'd have a similar experience. I'm hoping we were just that one odd experience, but I won't go back to find out.

The place has a very cool interior and it was trivia night--the guy doing trivia was personable and fun. But generally, the food was fine but nothing special and they only had about 5 beers on tap. And who serves yellow mustard at an ale house?

We arrived about 15 minutes before our reservation and were immediately seated. The on-tap beer selection as a bit smaller than I expected, but the quality of beer was good. The bread and oil before the meal was tasty. I got the Pan-Seared Cod and I thought it was really good! Others in my group got the pizza, meatloaf, burger, grilled cheese and Shepard's pie. Everyone liked their beer and food. The dinner crowd picked up and the place got loud, however this is to be expected. It is a happening place with a nice vibe. I would recommend for casual dining with friends.

We were going to a Concert at the Sinclair and found this Pub on open Table as it was within walking distance. Waitstaff and food runners were attentive and friendly, the food was excellent, the fish and chips was piping hot and the dessert we shared was huge! We would back again.
