We sat down and were given menus pretty promptly. We ordered our food which came out a bit too fast to have been prepared to order. My fried clams and scallops were definitely frozen and tasted like they came out of a Gorton's box. My wife's salad was nearly inedible and was one of the worst she has ever had. Our daughters fish tacos were overdone, and she only ate one of the three. I hope this place goes under if that's the kind of junk they present as food.

Once our waitress noticed us (10 minutes) the food and drinks were fast. Waitress forgot our requested waters and never made eye contact to get her attention to order more drink (I had to yell across the restaurant).

Disappointed overall. I had been a couple times a few years ago with no complaints but it's definitely gone down hill since then. The service was really poor. It took awhile for our waitress to come over and after we ordered we never saw her until we had to ask someone to get so we could order another round of drinks. The food was good bar food, but there are plenty of other options in the area with just as good of food with a better overall experience.

This is my go-to spot when I'm with a group of friends. The beers are great, they have a full bar with reasonably priced drinks, and the food is excellent! What's best is the service... every server has been welcoming, patient, and gets our orders perfectly.

My partner and I went to JH's for a date, and we had a great time! One of the two cocktails was spectacular (the second, rum-based one) while the other, a Dark and Stormy, was OK. My partner's food was over-peppered, but she sent it back and the over-peppered fish was comped and she got another order of the same, no pepper. The server got us a nice, quiet table, which was great for just having an evening to ourselves. Thank you!

Definitely go for the chicken pot pie for dinner. A light flaky crust, clearly hand made onto the serving bowl was an excellent touch. There was lots of chicken, peas and carrots with a nice sauce. This is great comfort food. The clam chowder and burgers were good too. I also liked the fried calamari with a flavorful tomato based sauce with a little kick to it, bu not too much. Fresh locally made beer on tap is another huge plus. A friend and I brought our sons before going to a college hockey game. Everyone was full and happy. The scene is very loud, with lots of activity - perfect to entertain our 12 year old boys.

Looking for dinner before a show at Sanders Theater we were looking for a last minute reservation and few spots were available - Joe Harvard to the rescue. Been there before - reliable, OK food with quality beer choices. My wife had the short rib and I had the shepherd's pie - just to venture away from the basic burgers. We basically had the same meal in a different shape. Meat on the bone one plate, the other ground - same whipped potatoes, sauce, etc. Not bad - quite filling - just nothing to write home about. The best part was the fast service, good beer and making it to our show.

Always fun to be at John Harvard, with lots of energy from a young college crowd. Lots of TVs, lots of noise. Generally good service and food, whole not exceptional, is always tasty. I'm not a beer drinker, but people tell me the craft beers are also worthwhile.

The drinks were great - an excellent hot cider drink especially - but the food was just good - not great. The experience was awkward, as we had a table of 7 and they didn't bring out our apps and tried to bring us just 2 of our entrees... when the others weren't yet ready. We sent them back to get our appetizers... which still didn't come but they brought all of our entrees... two of which were barely warm. The appetizers were free and came 5 minutes or so after our entrees. All the food was good, but we left half the appetizers because we had our meals to eat (some of us trying to eat them while still warm!). Just an okay experience, not something I would recommend to a friend visiting Boston, for fear they'd have a similar experience. I'm hoping we were just that one odd experience, but I won't go back to find out.

The place has a very cool interior and it was trivia night--the guy doing trivia was personable and fun. But generally, the food was fine but nothing special and they only had about 5 beers on tap. And who serves yellow mustard at an ale house?

We arrived about 15 minutes before our reservation and were immediately seated. The on-tap beer selection as a bit smaller than I expected, but the quality of beer was good. The bread and oil before the meal was tasty. I got the Pan-Seared Cod and I thought it was really good! Others in my group got the pizza, meatloaf, burger, grilled cheese and Shepard's pie. Everyone liked their beer and food. The dinner crowd picked up and the place got loud, however this is to be expected. It is a happening place with a nice vibe. I would recommend for casual dining with friends.

We were going to a Concert at the Sinclair and found this Pub on open Table as it was within walking distance. Waitstaff and food runners were attentive and friendly, the food was excellent, the fish and chips was piping hot and the dessert we shared was huge! We would back again.

I hadn't been to this restaurant for several years. It used to be a fun stop for an intimate or group dinner with beers. The ambiance has deteriorated...the space is now much more open with bright lights and high noise level. The beers were good, but the food was below average. I ordered the fish and chips, which came with soggy french fries and heavily breaded fish. I removed the soggy breading and was left with what looked like very thin and uninteresting fillets of tilapia. My friends said that the burgers they ordered weren't much better.

My boyfriend and I found JH's on a recent trip to Cambridge. Found JH on an innocent Google Search and decided to try it out since it was 10:00pm, we hadn't had dinner, and their website indicated they were serving food until 11:00. The menu looked great but when we arrived, the waitress informed us that the kitchen had already closed. We were disappointed, but it was such a cool ambiance, we decided to stay for a drink. We each got a flight of beer and really enjoyed their brews. Moreover, the waitress was very friendly and recommended a local place that we could get late night food which we did (and it was delicious).

Anyway, we liked it so much (and were so intrigued by the menu) that we decided to come back for lunch the next day. Both times there was a very chill crowd (possibly because Harvard wasn't back from summer break yet) and we really enjoyed the scene. We knew which beers to get from our flights the night before and split a few menu items including the fries with various aiolis (they were alright), the smoked sausage with mashed potatoes (OMG SO GOOD) and the barbecue chicken pizza (delicious and huge).

Would definitely recommend this place - very laid back and unique vibe with good food and beer.

John Harvard's Brew House is famous for there house made and brewed Beer, but they have many other drinks on the menu. There food is very good, and Even though the last time we went the server forgot to bring the Salad before the main course, that was forgiven and taken off the bill since the main course was the Ribs (They where Amazing!). Our server (forgot his name sadly) was very nice

This restaurant/bar is loud, fun good beer, they brew their own beer. It has a decent bar menu. They have a separate gluten free menu with a very good gluten free beer. The wings were very good. We had burgers with the gluten free buns. They were also very good. I would stick to the burgers or sandwiches. The rest of the items don't fare as well.

After a disastrous time at Tasty Burger, we went around the corner for some pseudo-healthy food and hopefully decent service. That is more or less what we got. My boyfriend ordered the beer flight and I settled on the lager. We were both pleased with our orders. He got the bleu cheese burger, which looked pretty generic, but which he enjoyed. I got the Mediterranean salad. What I loved about it was that it was served over a layer of hummus. It wasn't the prettiest salad I've ever had, but it fit the bill. Our server was nice and the hostess stopped by to check in and then ring up our bill. All in all, it was an okay (though not exceptional) experience. I wish they would up the ante a little bit and produce food that is a little higher in quality and revamp the seating area. They have an awesome space, great name, and a captive audience. Use it!

Each time I dine at John Harvard's, I wonder why I don't come here more often. The beer, already some of the best brews in the Boston area, has been getting even better. The food is also reasonable, very well prepared, and the portions are ample. I normally dine here with groups of friends, and the noise level allows us to have a great evening.

Great place to eat. We came for the Head of the Charles Regatta and wanted a place to eat for a large group - 10 of us. Showed up for our reservation and got seated right away - no waiting. Service was great and the food was delicious. Had read reviews of the place prior to eating there and the meatloaf and shepard's pie were two highly recommended items. Several in our party got them and agreed with the reviews. However, the Chicken pot pie was the hand's down favorite, even though every entree was good. The prices are beyond reasonable, especially for the area. Only drawback is the noise level. It would be nice if the dining area could be insulated a bit more from the bar noise...we could hardly hear the conversations at the table.

We love to visit the Harvard Coop and the Harvard Book store at least once a year. I was in the mood for a taste of steak so selected John Harvard for it's location and menu. Despite it's subterranean setting the place is well laid out and comfortable. The inside lighting could stand a boost however, tough to read in the dark. Food was OK, decent Caesar Salad and pretty good Flank steak with mashed and mushrooms. Hit of the visit was the Blond Ale, perfect on a bright and hot fall day.

Great overall experience with both the staff and the food. They called the day of our reservation to confirm our OpenTable reservation. At 5:15pm on a Saturday, the restaurant was still mostly empty, and we had great service for our party of 6, which included 2 children. We had a personable waitress and the food arrived quickly and tasted great. When we left at 6:30/6:45, the restaurant was definitely full, so we feel it worked well to have had an early reservation.

Great burgers but slow service. Remember that a bottle of beer is 12 oz., so if you order a 10 oz. beer, it will be small. I ordered my burger medium rare, and they actually cooked it to that spec.

I've been here about 7 or 8 times now, and I've always loved the food and beer they have (even though I can never seem to be there to have any cask ales). But I was shocked and confused while my girlfriend and I sat at a booth for 10 mins waiting for our server to show up. It was half-full, and we could see servers standing around on the side doing next to nothing. I have never had to ask the hostess "who is our server?" for any reason, nevermind because we wanted to have some water and drinks before placing an order. But, food related, get the BBQ tenders as a starter as they are awesome with the beer sampler, and then basically get anything with their BBQ sauce on for dinner. You won't regret that, unless you can't find your server...
