Great food. Lobster buffalo mac and cheese. I dont think i need to say more than that.
We sat down and were given menus pretty promptly. We ordered our food which came out a bit too fast to have been prepared to order. My fried clams and scallops were definitely frozen and tasted like they came out of a Gorton's box. My wife's salad was nearly inedible and was one of the worst she has ever had. Our daughters fish tacos were overdone, and she only ate one of the three. I hope this place goes under if that's the kind of junk they present as food.
One of my favorite places in Cambridge. Easily sits groups. Wish there were more diet beverage choices.
Excellent clam chowder and salad. Great stout. Good mains too.
Once our waitress noticed us (10 minutes) the food and drinks were fast. Waitress forgot our requested waters and never made eye contact to get her attention to order more drink (I had to yell across the restaurant).
Disappointed overall. I had been a couple times a few years ago with no complaints but it's definitely gone down hill since then. The service was really poor. It took awhile for our waitress to come over and after we ordered we never saw her until we had to ask someone to get so we could order another round of drinks. The food was good bar food, but there are plenty of other options in the area with just as good of food with a better overall experience.
This is my go-to spot when I'm with a group of friends. The beers are great, they have a full bar with reasonably priced drinks, and the food is excellent! What's best is the service... every server has been welcoming, patient, and gets our orders perfectly.
Me and my boyfriend both got sick from this food!
Server recommended meatloaf was ineatible. If I were to go back, I would order a burger or nachos .
My partner and I went to JH's for a date, and we had a great time! One of the two cocktails was spectacular (the second, rum-based one) while the other, a Dark and Stormy, was OK. My partner's food was over-peppered, but she sent it back and the over-peppered fish was comped and she got another order of the same, no pepper. The server got us a nice, quiet table, which was great for just having an evening to ourselves. Thank you!
Definitely go for the chicken pot pie for dinner. A light flaky crust, clearly hand made onto the serving bowl was an excellent touch. There was lots of chicken, peas and carrots with a nice sauce. This is great comfort food. The clam chowder and burgers were good too. I also liked the fried calamari with a flavorful tomato based sauce with a little kick to it, bu not too much. Fresh locally made beer on tap is another huge plus. A friend and I brought our sons before going to a college hockey game. Everyone was full and happy. The scene is very loud, with lots of activity - perfect to entertain our 12 year old boys.
The "Grill Cheese" was delicious. Great combination of ingredients.
Always love John Harvard's! Great large space for adults and kids. The food and beer were great, as always. I had the tasty winter salad. My husband loved the chicken blta sandwich. Delicious!
Looking for dinner before a show at Sanders Theater we were looking for a last minute reservation and few spots were available - Joe Harvard to the rescue. Been there before - reliable, OK food with quality beer choices. My wife had the short rib and I had the shepherd's pie - just to venture away from the basic burgers. We basically had the same meal in a different shape. Meat on the bone one plate, the other ground - same whipped potatoes, sauce, etc. Not bad - quite filling - just nothing to write home about. The best part was the fast service, good beer and making it to our show.
Always fun to be at John Harvard, with lots of energy from a young college crowd. Lots of TVs, lots of noise. Generally good service and food, whole not exceptional, is always tasty. I'm not a beer drinker, but people tell me the craft beers are also worthwhile.
