The view is absolutely stunning and the service is excellent! They sent me an email immediately when I forgot my credit card after payment
The food is good but nothing exceptional
Excellent way to celebrate graduation!!! Everything exceeded our expectations! Highly recommend.
WE LIKE OUR FOOD HOT WHEN WE GO TO BUFFET'S. WE ABSOLUTELY LOVED CARMEN ANTHONY'S & MISS IT, SO WE TRIED BUT IT DIDN'T MEET OUR EXPECTATIONS. I ALSO DIDN'T CARE FOR THE SMALL CHAMPAGNE GLASS FOR MY MIMOSA TOO!
The food was excellent, and the views were phenomenal. The staff was so friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. They were always around when we needed anything, but did not hover over the table.
We dined during New Haven restaurant week and the fixed price menu made it very affordable. I might have been less favorable to the regular menu prices. Waitstaff was attentive but not pushy. They let us take 3 hours for our meal which was perfect for our night out with friends. We live locally and were not staying at the hotel. Very enjoyable experience and great view.
Very nice restaurant, great views, friendly attentive staff, very good food. The rolls were fabulous! Got the roasted chicken and it was a little on the dry side. My husband got the spare ribs and they were fantastic. I would definitely go back and recommend to a friend.
The Sunday Brunch similar to the omnipresent Art of Breakfast theme among Omni hotels except quite a bit more expensive which would suggest extra offerings. At the cutting board just an extremely overcooked dry flank steak. Also shrimp on ice which was not replenished with an hour yet to go in the brunch slot. I did bring the empty hill of ice to the attention of the attendant who told me someone might be looking for more but that person had not succeeded by the time we were done. Really, you could do better with your $150 for four at brunch nearly anywhere in New Haven.
We arrived at 7:25 for a 730 reservation. The hostess explained that our table wasn’t ready yet and asked us if we wanted to go the bar to wait The Negroni was the worst I’ve ever had and my friendss cosmopolitan was adequate. We we shown to the table @ 8. It wasn’t until 830 when we reached out to the hostess that we got a menu. She apologized and sent the waiter who was very apologetic and assured us that he was going to make ever effort to make it right. The food was very good and as a good well gesture they did not charge for the bottle of wine . I can’t be sure I’d return
Lovely restaurant with attentive and friendly service. The brie appetizer was especially delicious. The view of the city adds to the ambience. Very accommodating staff.
Menu has been revised. Some may prefer the new menu, but I preferred the older items (then again, I am NOT a foodie).
Can't beat the view.
I proposed to my girlfriend here, and it went fantastically! The hostess, Lauren, did a wonderful job communicating with me before hand. She walked around with me as I figured out where I would propose, where the photographer could hang out before we got there, and since there was a lot of availability that night, I got to have the table I wanted after the proposal. The server, Monica, was wonderful as well, and both my fiance and myself had a wonderful, memorable evening.
Excellent service and the food was prefect- we will return
Excellent overall. This was our first time at John Davenports and it exceeded our expectations. We liked everything about the restaurant and the food was fantastic through all five courses. We will be coming back in the near future.
Good quality food, cage free eggs, meats, etc. and a great staff. Parking in garage is validated.
Delicious chocolate cake!!!
JD was decorated do beautifully for Christmas Eve. Service was wonderful! All our entrees were fabulous. Our waitress, Robin, was very attentive & friendly! We enjoyed our family holiday dinner overlooking the city!
Very nice meal food was well prepared and presented. Service was attentive and excellent. The views were great.
Food was quite good; service was wonderful; ambiance is low-key elegance, great for conversation.
Good food and great ambiance
The food selection was excellent and the view was great. It put our special occasion over the top. I can’t wait to go back
So disappointed in my last visit here. I will respond directly to the restaurant, so hopefully, the management can make corrections.
Great views. Food was above average overall. Steaks were good.
Celebrated our 9th anniversary, the food was amazing, loved the wine. Although it was busy that day we got great service:)
Not my first time going but first time for my grandmother-in-law. She is 84 and fragile. Staff went above and beyond in ensuring she was comfortable and well taken care of. Even offered the lift to assist with getting her to the elevator versus her walking the stairs. Food was fresh. Mimosa perfect. Bartender allowed me to come back and pick up my drink and cc after i had secured my food. Grandmother loved the coffee❤️. The entire ride home i heard about the coffee. Can’t wait for my mother and MIL to visit so I can take them to brunch.
Also, courtesy call to confirm our reservation was a nice touch!
Dinner for 4. We all enjoyed the comfortable seating in a lovely view of the New Haven Green. Food was consistently good over all meals. Service was attentive, friendly, unhurried and knowledgeable. This was a last minute reservation with friends and we were very pleasantly surprised. We will definitely return.
We had reservations for 6 people to celebrate a 83rd birthday. We started in the bar area prior to dinner and ordered 3 and a glass of water. 15 minutes pass and the waiter returns with the drinks and clearly not what we ordered. We finally flagged him down and asked what the drink was and he says sorry I think its the wrong one, should I replace it? We agree to let it be and get ready for dinner. We are seated at our table and the waiter introduces himself and says he will be back. After 15 minutes he returns and asks if we want anything to drink and I ask for a wine list. He returns and says we are out of some but we have a lot of them....
I ordered a $60 bottle of wine and he opens it and leaves the cork on the table. He returns and asks if we would like to order. We order 4 appetizers to share at the table. 20 minutes pass and the food is delivered and the servers leave. We have mussels, baked brie, tenderloin tips and calamari. We have no appetizer plates and when asked the waiter takes bread plates off the table next to us. The brie is ice cold with grill marks but everything else is very good. We have finished the mussels and the waiter returns with a bowl for the shells.
We are in no rush but 1/2 hour later the waiter returns to take our order. Our dinner comes and the remnants of the appetizers are still on the table. The waiter leaves and we need to flag him down, we have no utensils.
We make the most of it and await desert. We had confirmed on the reservation it was a special birthday and also let the hostess know she was gluten free. A big piece of chocolate cake arrives with a candle, we sing, tell her not to eat it while we find the waiter to order deserts and coffee. We ordered 2 additional deserts, never got coffee
The Umami Burger is a must
I dont know why the menu was changed. Do not try to change something that is not broken. Unfortunately, once we were sat we didnt get greeted till maybe almost 10 mins in... after 15 mins another couple sat two tables down samw waiter. However they got their drinks first, their appetizers first, and their meal first. I dont like complaining but clearly they look like they had more money than us so hey i guess that means better service. We received our meal one hour after sitting down. That is crazy! And it was bery underwhelming. The food was way better before. You guys tried to be fancy and completely backfired. Will no longer go there.
Another outstanding experience at John Davenport's for Restaurant Week. Imaginative recipes and generous servings in an outstanding environment, fresh and contemporary. Must try!
Staff were very welcoming from the bartender to the hostess to the wait staff. Views are best in the city and the quality of food is very good. Service was excellent. Attentive without being intrusive. I will definitely be back for a special occasion or when I am looking to impress!
The receptionist was very unprofessional. I reserved a table on Nov 4 at 11:30am for Restaurant's Week's lunch through John Davenport's Restaurant Week link , but when we arrived at the restaurant she told us that there is no such a thing, so we ended up having a regular brunch there. A few minutes later, another couple actually did receive a Restaurant's Week's lunch's lunch menu. Also, the restaurant was under-staffed. The few waiters were very busy, and could not be attentive to individual tables. Davenport has a beautiful view and good food but I hope the service will be improved to make the restaurant more attractive to customers.
Good friendly and efficient service and a good range of dishes on the menu. Good views across the Yale area.
If only everything there was as good as the view!
Upon arriving everything looks beautiful! The view is outstanding, there is food as far as the eye can see, and everyone was all smiles. Unfortunately, things immediately took a turn for the worse.
Let me start at the end... although John Davenport's website shows that "The Art of Breakfast Buffet" is $23 the actual cost is $35 per person. That's a 50% difference right there! While $23 is a little on the steep side for eggs and french toast $35 is outrageous in my book!
After sitting at our table for a few minutes (only 3 other parties in the restaurant) our server proceeded to come over and take our drink order then disappear for 10 minutes. I should not have to get out of my seat to go look for water! This was a theme for the morning as my coffee cup and water glass seemed to be constantly empty.
All in all, the food was lukewarm and standard breakfast fair at best. The service was atrocious and the cost was egregious. I do not recommend.
We were met by friendly staff who showed us to our table. The view is spectacular and ambiance right for business lunch. The food was delicious and served in a short and prompt period of time.
Everything was lovely except for the food.... we all agreed the food looked better than it tasted. :(
Sunday brunch was awful...food was cold...I found hair in my eggs and restaurant was dirty
We have been dining at Jonathan Davenport for many years. It is a wonderful spot in New Haven. The wait staff is amazing, especially Robin. She is more than accommodating, as she anticipates and your needs. She always makes the evening exceptional because of her heartwarming touch. She and the restaurant are a true gem in New Haven.
Had a wonderful time celebrating my birthday at John Davenport's in New Haven! The six of us first enjoyed drinks and 2 items from the starter menu; Fried Oysters and Local Artisanal Cheeses. Both apps were delicious and the Tequila Old Fashioned was perfect! The Filet was ordered by 4 of us and was out of this world! Had a taste of the smoked short ribs which was tender and seasoned perfectly. The Diver Scallops and Shrimp looked fresh and amazing! Our server Monica brought over a gooey, chocolate dessert for the table to share, yummy!! And a big thank you to the chef for creating a birthday chocolate plate that made me feel so special! Oh and can't forget the wine!! Lots of choices and so tasty! Loved it all!! Will be back soon!
Coffee was Luke warm, limited choices, some of the selections needed refilling, service was fair at best. A $35 per person brunch that was extremely lacking in every possible way! Would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. Very disappointing!
Aiden was our waiter with the help of George. They were AWESOME!!! Extremely accommodating, polite, helpful, attentive and friendly. The restaurant was very clean and the view from the 19th floor is really nice.
