My husbands birthday we arrived around 5:10pm and was seated right away, the servers and waitress couldn’t have been nicer what a great night.
As always, I thoroughly enjoyed dining at John Davenport's. The seafood special (lobster tail, scallops, shrimp, grilled vegetables) was outstanding. Dessert was a hot apple cobbler - very nice. Excellent drinks as well.
It was awesome!! The food and service was great. An overall amazing experience!
My experience was awesome. I was recommended here by two different co-workers. Both of which were in two different age groups 28 years old and 58 years old. Age may not matter but it does to me, especially when reviewing a place. At the door from the very start you are greeted as if they’ve been expecting you. It was amazing, the food was incredible. I’ve never had such a good steak. And my girlfriend was completely blown away by the Salmon, and so was I. The salmon was not underdone or overdone, it was not dry in the middle, it was moist and it melted in your mouth. Also we said it was our anniversary and to our surprise when we arrived there were rose pedals on the table. Amazing!. Victoria was our Waitress, she was incredible as well. She made sure we were 110% satisfied! Overall: I RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO EVERYBODY. THE VIEW OF DOWN TOWN NEW HAVEN IS AMAZING AS WELL.
It was really great. I had a fantastic experience in this restaurant. The view was really good and the dish’s also great. I will definitely visit this restaurant again.
The meal truly was very good. My wife and I dined there for Valentine's day. The prix fixe menu was fairly robust and they gladly accommodated her food allergies. I recommend this restaurant but it is still a hotel restaurant.
We went for Valentine's Day. Our waitress Robin was terrific. I was disappointed to be seated in a somewhat conference room, but it didn't ruin our experience. My recommendation would be to not seat people in special rooms when they are looking to dine at the restaurant. There's no need to overfill - it wasn't what I was looking for.
Food was great and service was great. Ambiance was stale because it was a business room with a nice view.
The food was very good and the service was excellent!
I had called several times in advance and had spoken to the servers at the restaurant to ensure that a surprise birthday dessert be served after the meal, but this was not done even though it was planned. The food was also disappointing that day.
The views were awesome and the service was excellent.
We felt very special.
Although an unusual year of birth to celebrate, my 26th was something to remember. Of the many places I’ve been to in New Haven to eat, John Davenports had not made it onto the list. I feel as though I have wasted years not coming to this establishment. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant l, which is beautifully located on the 19th floor, we were greeted with excitement and enthusiasm by the hostess Victoria; the type of welcome we were looking for. As soon as we sat down, our server Robin greeted us with what seemed to be an exact match to our original greeting in terms of energy and passion. I will spare the details of each aspect of the exceptional service but instead share with you the synopsis. The way each team memeber there worked together in harmony was unlike any restuarant environment I’ve seen. Whether it was the hostess, server, additional wait staff, no one hesitated to jump in to help bring additional items by request, refills, suggestions with the menu, or ensuring we were satisfied throughout the night. Would (and intend to) recommend to family, friends, and even random people on the street. Looking forward to my next visit!
Fantastic bartender, waitstaff and manager “Alec”
Food and drinks were outstanding!
The decor is sad...Omni design team- you have an opportunity to transform this amazing location into THE place for cocktails/music/light fare and dinner!!!!
No other establiahment in this area has an incredible view of New Haven!!!!!
We had dinner at JD's on New Years Eve and were quite impressed! The service was fantastic, good humored, thoughtful, and very responsive. The meal was delicious and well spaced...no rush, but no long waits either. The scallops were my favorite....done to perfection. My husband loved the chowder. Each course was a delight...topped off with a chocolate mousse dessert that was just right. it went beyond our expectations....and then there was the wintery view of New Haven with the green lit up for the holidays. The best view for a meal that can be found in New Haven.
I enjoyed oth meals I had there. My only complaint was that the food was not hot.
Both dinner and breakfast were lukewarm, at best
john davenport's is at the top of the omni hotel in new haven. having grown up there (but childhood home having been sold) i have to book a hotel in new haven periodically. i always eat the breakfast/brunch on site at JD's. it has floor to ceiling windows looking over the city, so it has a good atmosphere. for breakfast there is a buffet or can order from the menu. we all ordered. i had the lobster eggs benedict with home fries, my son had the salmon eggs benedict. other son had the belgian waffles. definitely sufficient portions, didn't eat again until 7pm! my daughter also had their bittersweet hot chocolate that is served with sides of crumbled graham crackers, marshmallow and whipped cream- to DIE for! the buffet looked good as well. if you get a room here, treat yourself to a leisurely breakfast/brunch-it's worth it.
Lobster in roll was dry.
Great view and a central location for all of our family in Connecticut. Service was excellent and everyone was friendly. Very comfortable.
We had made reservation for our Anniversary Dinner. Everything was perfect, our table was decorated with Rose Petals and we were welcomed with Prosecca sparkling wine 🥂 Ambience was great! I would definitely recommend this place to every couple 👍
Much of the traditional brunch fare (buffet) was much below that served in the evenings. It appeared to have been cooked once in the morning and sit in warmers for the duration of the buffet. Virtually everything that was pre-cooked had to be cut with a knife. An English muffin, served under an egg, could not be cut even with a knife. I recommend to others to have an omelet cooked while you wait and to eat salads, fresh fruit and desserts.
My daughter got engaged Saturday night everybody there was wonderful the food was good service was impeccable and everyone Couldn’t of been nicer
We were seated promptly, our waiter was attentive and friendly we had salmon & scallops would recommend them. I had the kale salad with pistachios and cranberries very good, I would go back just for this salad again perhaps for lunch. For our dessert we had the warm apple crumble, we shared it, there is more than enough for two people. The coffee with the dessert was really nice, normally it doesn’t taste fresh at night, well done. We will be dining here again. You can see the tree lights from the New Haven Green from the table, magical time of year.
I was there for Thanksgiving dinner and it was not very good. While the service was excellent considering the fact that I was there for the 5:00 p.m. seating and there had been 3 prior seatings, the food was definitely lacking and not worth the price. I will probably give it another try on a non-holiday.
We were there for the Thanksgiving buffet, which is not typical. It was a bit crowded, and it took a while to be seated. But the food was good and our waitress was thoughtful and efficient.
It was a very nice experience for Thanksgiving. We did feel that a little soft music would have added to the ambiance. Overall...very nice!
The view and the waitress were awesome, but it took over an hour before they even took our order and another hour to get the food. The pork tenderloin and filet were over cooked, the salmon was raw, the lobster Mac was cold, the fish dish was flavorless. They tried to make things right and were very nice, But the food was just very poorly prepared.
Romantic setting food very good awesome chef. Loved the meal and great menu.
I made reservations a month ahead of time because my husband and I love trying new restaurants for New Haven Restaurant week. We were celebrating a special occasion and were looking forward to it. When we were seated we were disappointed because we didn’t even have a seat enjoying the view and one of the reasons for making the reservation. It took the waiter a long time to greet our table and take a drink order. We didn’t receive the restaurant week menu and then it took 30 minutes before getting a drink or have our order taken. The restaurant week menu was limited and the regular menu was average with only 4 entree choices . The food was okay and definitely not in the fine dining category. Overall it was a disappointment and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. The view is 5 stars but everything else was not.
Food was good, staff seemed really distracted for some reason which was confusing because there were only 3 other tables being served at that time.
Our experience at John Davenport’s could not have been better. The food and service were exceptional, and the validated parking, keeping us out of the weather, was much appreciated. We very much enjoyed the chopped kale salad, which was fresh and crisp and light, followed by the seafood bouillabaisse and the diver scallops and shrimp, which were perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. The kitchen was cheerfully willing to accommodate our respective food restrictions with appropriate substitutions that did not in the least bit negatively impact our enjoyment of the entrees. In spite of a packed lobby and a very large banquet occurring at the same time, we were able to escape to the top of the park and conduct a rather lengthy and quiet business meeting, with complete relaxation, and a delightful culinary experience. Highly recommended!
Unfortunately, at this time I am unable to make a recommendation or referral because our New Haven Restaurant dinner wasn't great or average in fact it was bad. The meatballs were luke warm and tasteless. The lobster mac'n cheese was cold and the sauteed garlic spinach was raw and cold. The dessert was dried out. I did enjoy the bread, butter, and water and asked for more bread since it was the best part of the meal but the host forgot to bring it to the table. The disappointment is enough that I cannot honestly refer it to anyone unless you just have money and time to waste.
The food was ok, but we went there during lunch time and they told us we can only have the brunch buffet. We asked if there is a menu for lunch that we pick from instead and they said that buffet is the only available choice. On their websites they did have a lunch menu so I don’t understand why we couldn’t pick our meal from there. The place was clean and service was good.
Incredible views - loved watching the sunsets and sunrises! Such pleasant staff.
John Davenport's combined a classy upscale ambiance with a trendy Latin tapas and cocktail vibe to delight the palate. There's no greater bite in New Haven!
Food and service were perfecto.
First time here, and it was a great experience all except for one thing. We got the artisanal cheese board which was outstanding. Drinks and wine were delicious. Lobster mac and cheese was great. However, my girlfriend and I both ordered Filet. She ordered medium rare, and I ordered medium. Hers came out medium well, and mine came out medium well-well done. This was disappointing, but the steak still tasted good. The waiter made up for it with giving us the first round of drinks on the house, so that made us very happy. Will definitely come back in the future! Great view of New Haven, the noise level was a little bit louder than expected for the environment though. Great place!
Excellent waitress 🙌🏿 The service was great our waitress was great and so nice made us feel right at home. I would like to have her as my waitress every time I come there..
21st birthday celebration. Service was great. Salads and dessert were very ordinary. Lobster roll was enjoyable. Overpriced overall
Everything was great but too much salt was used that’s why I gave the food rating I did.
The view is the best thing about this place.Food almost seems like an afterthought.
Very small dining room - definitely more of a bar or lounge scene. Great views and enjoyed our server Robin. She was entertaining and definitely made our experience memorable. Unfortunately, the food was not to par. Each plate was average - at best.
Appetizers were our focus. We began with Fried Oysters - beautiful presentation but over-breaded and greasy. Couldn't taste the oysters through the heavily seasoned and deep fried batter. Disappointing. Next was a margarita flatbread. Crust was thick and cheese was bland. Reminded me of a Friday school pizza lunch. We didn't finish it. Then meatball appetizer - densly packed and dry/overcooked in a bland sauce -- generous portion but just not great. Dinner was lobster mac and cheese and lobster roll. The mac and cheese didn't disappoint. Very cheesy and nice pieces of lobster. The lobster roll was just ok. The roll definitely was too big and bready for the little lobster provided. It came with sweet potato tater tots which were good but could only eat 1-2 as they too were very greasy. The best part of the meal was the amuse bouche (cauliflower soup) -- Delish!! Of course the wine - the port and dessert. Warm baked brownie with vanilla ice cream. If we do go back - it will be for dessert. But - with parking at $25, this will likely be our last visit. Sad as I really wanted to love this restaurant.
