John Davenport's at the Top of the Park - Omni New Haven Ratings and Reviews
Food, atmosphere was good. Highly recommend the oyster app. Our waiter was great. Problem was the bar. They had one bartender on with multiple large parties and events in town. Understaffed but t totally avoidable. Took almost 30 min to get our first drink. Waiter apologized profusely. We joked with him "should we order the second one now?" He deadpanned, "yes, definitely yes".
First time here and was not disappointed.
It was a bit too congested in the restaurant and the noise level was high since it was a Friday night, but the food was good and the view was great!
Will definitely return to try out the bar and see what the atmosphere is like on other nights.
Celebrating my son's freshman violin recital at Yale with a special post performance dinner at John Davenport's was nothing short of wonderful! The food was very tasty and well-prepared but it was the service that was outstanding. Our personal waiter, Robin, was funny, warm and attentive. But the entire waitstaff from the hostess to the managers checking on us that really impressed. Even my 6-year-old daughter commented, "This place has really good service." We all smiled at her observation and agreed. We live in Memphis, Tennessee and I found this restaurant online and booked a couple of weeks in advance before flying up for the recital and it did not disappoint.
The food and ambiance were good, but the service was a little sketchy. Our server was much more caring to other tables, making sure that they knew about the specials while we never heard about them until he shared them with other patrons. That was rude and a little hurtful.
The food was good. However, I believe the portion sizes were very small and certain menu items we ordered were overpriced. The service was not the best. Our waiter was not around very much and seemed to ignore us at times. The next time we go to the Shubert we will most likely not eat at Davenports for dinner.
The atmosphere was great the view beautiful. I did enjoy being in a romantic setting with my boyfriend. I do feel for the money you are spending, there should come more food than fries with a steak. I think that was my only downfall, were the sides that accompany the entrees. Other than that food was delicious, drinks were great, and view was spectacular.
It was Restaurant Week in New Haven, so my friends and I decided to make a reservation for lunch. Unfortunately for us, it happened to be a day when it was raining cats and dogs. The view from the restaurant is what drew me to it the first time I went for breakfast. We did make a reservation. Our food was absolutely delicious. I read a review online about the quinoa, so I had asked for that as a side with my delectable lobster roll. I began with the beet salad with greens, and they ended us with Hagan Daaz ice cream with tea or coffee. All this for only $17 for their special. The deviled eggs with bacon that my friends had for an appetizer were delicious, too. As was the asparagus soup. My only recommendation is not to sit a group near the handicapped lift when other tables are open. And to use much smaller "to go" containers. The quinoa and half of a lobster roll got mixed in together as there was no separation. I will be back again on a sunny day or lovely evening to enjoy the city and Long Island Sound lights.
Friend and I met there for the first day of New Haven Restaurant week. All our choices were tasty. I had a vegetarian dish with squash and quinoa that I particularly loved. The dessert of ice cream was yummy. Service was very attentive and the view is spectacular.
This was a great choice for Valentine's Day. There are amazing views of downtown New Haven from this 19th floor restaurant. The food is creative and very tasty. The pre-fix menu for the holiday was $60 per person and included 4 courses, which I consider a good deal.
We were visiting from out of town came for Valentines Day lunch. Picked the resto for the view from the 19th story. Good and service were disappointing. First, no lobster. Second, fish and chips: fish tasted old and coating was soggy. The 'hand-made' pasta was swimming in oil. The best bet is the turkey club. Service took forever and finally I gave up waiting for the waitress to take my card, so I signed the bill and phoned in the number.
I'm sure their regular food is amazing. But I have to say that I was extremely disappointed going here for the first time last Sunday. I was surprised to learn that they only do buffet style eating on Sundays and instead of their menu, we were ushered to a buffet station. I payed an insane $85 for myself and my girlfriend for overcooked eggs and some cold breakfast food, no brunch related drinks included. The panoramic view was gorgeous, however because of my personal experience I will not be going back here again.
Great spot for special occasion or date. Really nice view of New Haven Green from tall windows. Nicely flavored, strong cocktails. Food was well executed and delicious. Short ribs- tender with deep beefy flavor. Strip steak cooked perfectly. Recommended for American fare in New Haven as a more affordable and less stodgy alternative to Union League.
Meh... I was hopeful that it was going to be a bit nicer.
Food was "good" waitstaff was "alright" price wasn't super expensive.
Not a bad place but I was expecting fine dinning, you could overdress if you weren't carful. I wouldn't wear a tie, I sport coat might be overdoing it...
We came here for the first time for my sister's birthday for dinner before the show at the Shubert. The waiter was friendly and super accommodating. Once we told him we had to get to a show he was extremely attentive to ensure we had our full dining experience and get to the show when we wanted. Because we were out of town and asked directions, he sent another waiter over who was really familiar with the area who gave us the short cut to the theater, so it took us 2 minutes to walk there. Excellent because it allowed us to enjoy our dinner experience longer and super helpful! I had noted in my reservation that it was my sister's birthday. When we arrived there was happy birthday decoration confetti all over the table and we didn't have to pay for her dessert, which was served with a candle. My guests ordered a fish dish, which they see to enjoy, I ordered a flat bread which was excellent! Our cheese tray was really enjoyable pre dinner.
I really enjoyed lunch and the views are great. Staff was very friendly. However, it took over an hour to get our lunch - we did not order appetizers and there was only one other table in the house from what I could see. Again, food and staff were great, just took too long. I would go again and see if it was a one off thing.
We had a party of 16 during a large snow storm so everyone arrived at different times and we were not sure who would even make it to the restaurant. The staff was so accommodating. They served rinks and waited patiently for our order and helped out with the kids needs and remained calm and friendly the entire time. Although the storm hid the view, I know from past visits how great it is. So nice to be up so high over the New Haven Green.
We wanted a place to take our elderly parents for a special Christmas lunch - this was the perfect venue! From start to finish it was a wonderful experience.
We live in another state, so I went to Trip Advisor first, then the restaurants website which is comprehensive and detailed. We appreciated the inside parking with voucher. Easy access to the hotel elevator without a long walk.
The restaurant as described has wonderful views, is beautifully decorated and very clean.
Our lunches were all delish! Old School Cheeseburger, Chicken Salad Wrap, Turkey Club and NE Lobster Roll. Everyone was pleased.
Wonderful and attentive service, our waiter had patience (and humor) dealing with an elder with dementia - that was really appreciated.
The entire staff from the Hostess to the waitress was very friendly and professional. Then the food arrived and every dish ordered was magnificent! Everything was delicious and the food presentation was superb too! It was a wonderful family Christmas Eve Brunch!!
Expected much more
Very poor ambiance during the holiday season ( no holiday theme at all in the restaurant)
Service indifferent and talking about their dates at the hostess station
Food ( fried chicken Monday special) inconsistent :chicken was good, but potatoes were cold
Nothing worth going back for
