Just another fine din8ng experience here. Classic and classy place to dine. Gonna missa this place
Oh we are going to miss this place and John! Loved his food for the last 30 years.
Best food ever!! So sad he is closing. Foie Gras was always spectacular. Hangar steak to die for. Any and all fish was amazing. Desserts were perfect.
Since the restaurant will be closing illl keep this short - the food was really good and Redwood City will definitely losing a gem in John Bentley’s. I celebrated a birthday here with my girlfriend and it was a pleasure being acknowledged by the chef himself. The man seems like a nice genuine guy. I rarely order pork as an entree but this was then best pork chop I have ever eaten in my life. The sticky toffee dessert was also one of the best desserts I’ve had. It’s was a pleasure dining here and to say I expeirenced mr Bentley’s amazingly food.
Unfortunately, because of their eminent closing, we found the food to be only so-so. So sad to hear of their closing and will remember "the good old days".
Back for a Saturday night celebration. Overall our visit was pound on the table good!
We enjoyed the artichoke soup (not a cream soup!), marinated quail, Japanese-panko-encrusted halibut, the rib-eye in a Cabernet sauce reduction, the signature sticky-toffee pudding cake (toffee flavored cake with a a scoop of coffee gelato & caramel/chocolate sauce), and Meyer lemon cheesecake. All of these menu items (the halibut was a special) were unbelievably delicious, juicy, and melt in your mouth perfect.
A really special place, unfortunately the chef/owner is retiring and the place is closing at the end of March 2018. Been there twice in the past two weeks, just to experience it before it goes. A special spot for fine dining and its loss will be felt. Not too much around like it. Food is excellent.
As always the food was wonderful, was so happy to eat there one more time before they close!
This is our evtended family's special occasion restaurant:
Warm and comfortable atmosphere
Terrific. Heard it is closing soon which is too bad.
Very pleasant meal and ambience. Wish they weren’t closing :-(
With less than 3 weeks before closing, John Bentley's is definitely in the "exit" stage. While service was excellent, food quality was fair to poor (Has the chef left already????)
Too bad to see such a neighborhood "go to" place finish with a 'splat"!
We always enjoy the food at John Bentley's and are so sad to know this outstanding restaurant will close. We have celebrated anniversaries, birthdays, reunions, also business meetings here, and have never had anything other than a great experience at this restaurant. The food is tasty fresh original and outstanding. We enjoy seeing the same favorites on the menu while at the same time delicious daily specials are offered. Always such a hard choice, so much to choose from.
John Bentley and his staff are outstanding---food and atmosphere is top notch. This restaurant and its owner/chef will be sorely missed. It's a gem...
Another delicious meal. Only one little negative....the noise level was extremely high, which was very unusual for a Thursday night. One of my favorite all time restaurants. So sorry that it will be closing. Will miss it.
It's sad to see an old friend leave. It looks like John Bentley's restaurant will be closing in less than a month. Thank you Mr. B and your staff for always delivering a first rate experience.
We wish you well in retirement and hope the employees find a job worthy of their competency.
Thank you.
One of my all time favorite restaurants, Superb in everyway. So sorry to learn they are closing soon. Sad.
Like entering a beautiful home and being greeted graciously and warmly. Delicious food that comes hot. Excellent presentation. LOVE J B!!!
This has been our special occasion restaurant for years and it never disappoints. We are so sorry to see it go!!!
Wonderful dinner as always. So sad to see this place closing. :(
This has been one of my favorite restaurants for many years but I am sad to say it will be closing soon.
John the owner is retiring and a developer will be tearing it down.
My wife and I very much enjoyed the food and service.
this wonderful restaurant is closing the end of March. There is no other restaurant like it on the Peninsula. Excellent food, excellent service and and a feeling that it is a special occasion to be at the restaurant. Eat there while you can!!
This is our restaurant when it comes to best romantic, best food, best overall, best service restaurant in the Peninsula.
The food was excellent but the waiter got a little carried away with other guest. Took a bit more then 2 hours to bring us our entree. When it finally came, the pork chops was over cooked. They remedied it as fast as they could. All in all, would of given them a second chance if they were not closing. Great Luck John on your new endeavor!
First off, I am so incredibly sad that this was my first and probably last time at John Bentley's as they plan to close. The service was amazing and engaging, the food was delicious and the drinks were great. Normally when I ask if a place can make blue cheese stuffed olives for my martini I get a no - not here - they have blue cheese and bacon stuffed olives!
Too noisy at lunch, slow service, overpriced! Coffee at $5 is ridiculous!!!
Great place to eat. Sorry to hear it is closing down in a couple of months.
Sure gonna miss this place! Been coming here for years and they are closing the doors at the end of March.
Food and service were great, but it was way too loud. I left with a headache. There was only two of us and we were seated in the back room with three tables that seats 8-10 people and we had to yell to hear each other. This restaurant is closing soon, but I wouldn't return.
It doesn't get much better than this. Service is wonderful. Menu is excellent. Food is exquisite. A very special place.
Another delicious dinner here with great service. I will miss this place!
GREAT EVENING. SUPERB FOOD, EXCELLENT SERVICE, NICE AMBIANCE.
JOHN BENTEY'S IS REALLY REALLY GOOD.
SORRY TO HEAR THEY WILL CLOSE MARCH 31ST. WE WILL MISS IT.
WILL GO BACK 2/3 TIMES B/4 THEIR CLOSING.
Food and service always outstanding. Sorry they are c[osing soon
This is our go-to restaurant on the Peninsula for special occasions and date nights. The food is beyond excellent and service top notch. Breaks our heart he has sold the building and is closing the end of March.
The artichoke soup and Chinese chicken salad were delicious, and the wait service was excellent. The selection of Chardonnay by the glass was a bit limited, but my wife found something that "was alright."
John Bentley's is one of our favorite restaurants for a quiet lunch, and it is a shame that it will permanently close sometime during March. I'll miss lunch at Bentley's!
Delicious food - wonderful service - good cocktails!
Our second time celebrating my birthday at this wonderful restaurant. The scallops were just as memorial as our first visit. My husband and I had the same entrée: the scallops and our table mates had the huge pork chop and the sweet breads. I am very sad this delicious menu will be no more after March 2018. I hope the owner will miss the business and open another restaurant in another location; otherwise, my taste buds will have to dine on memory alone...
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Bentley's with some family we had in from out of town!
Everything about the evening was so extraordinary. Our waiter (Dean) was so engaging, efficient, and knowledgeable! He did not rush us but was there if we needed anything . He was terrific!
The food was also terrific from the salads to the main courses, we all so enjoyed our dinners. The space was just noisy enough to carry on our conversations without hearing or bothering any of our fellow patrons.
We have had many dinners and lunch at Bentley's and have never been disappointed.
Always delicious and consistent. It’s such a loss that they will be closing end of March.
