John Bentley's - Redwood City Ratings and Reviews
This is and always has been one of the very best restaurants in Bay Area. Period! The only problem, folks, is that John Bentley is going to retire in April which the entire world seems to know. So if you've never been, hurry up. If you have been before, hurry up. It will be a very sad day when we no longer can enjoy the wonderful experience of dining at John Bentley's.
John Bentley prepares the best meals on the peninsula. It is our family’s favorite restaurant for special occasions such as anniversaries and graduations. The staff is terrific and they always remember your name. Everything is terrific but the hanger steak, day boat scallops and pork chop are great. For desserts try the apple crisp or sticky toffee pudding. Nice wine list.
The food was creative, fresh and delicious. The service was wonderful and the ambiance delightful.
We really enjoyed finding this new experience and look forward to coming back and bringing friends. It was honestly the first restaurant in a longtime that surprized me!
first timer at JBs. wife and i chose for a milestone year birthday. had a deuce table near the front.
overall, giving it 4 stars. we have high expectations as foodies. the porkchop delivered but the fish was a little overcooked for our tastes, which knocked our rating down to a 4 overall.
service was top shelf and attentive.
desserts were tasty and well portioned. sipped some well balanced Bordeaux throughout the meal, from chop to choc pudding cake.
the other factor that brought JBs to a 4 was the unusually dim lighting and a hint of fish smell that washed over ua upon entering the restaurant.
guess we have sensitive noses and prefer a brighter atmosphere.
will return at some point but lots of other resties to explore b4 doing so.
In the course of many visits, John Bentley's has never disappointed me. The food, service, and ambience consistently create a very special experience . Most recently, I loved the black mission fig/gorgonzola cheese appetizer and the double-cut pork chop was the best I have ever eaten. Anytime, the sticky toffee pudding dessert is a must!
After a business meeting at Rosewood we decided to head over to Bentley’s. We enjoyed Tuna TT, Watermelon Crab Salad, Sweetbreads, Veal Medallions paired with Gls Mas Rose, bttl 2014 Turley ZIN Cedarman Howell Mtn. Excellent service. We learned that Bentley’s will be closing their doors next June 2018.
First dinner at this restaurant after having been to many very good establishments in this area. Very good entrees, excellent service in a very nice setting. The one and only downside, loud....noisy. I don't care to hear about someone else's sex life and their history. If you happen to enjoy that sort of information then this is for you. If not you may want to think twice if you prefer a somewhat quiet dining experience. Will we go back? Probably; because the food always wins! Mike from Gardnerville, NV.
Went to John Bentley's for a lunch with a friend that will be leaving the country, sort of a farewell lunch. The food was excellent and tasted delicious. The server was very attentive and the food came out very quickly. No complaints here.
It is a great spot to catch up with friends or to attend for a special occasion like an anniversary or birthday dinner. I highly recommend trying this restaurant out.
We have eaten here several times. Last night I had the delicious pork chop with a chutney sauce, cooked to perfection. Our guest had ahi which as a German was a real treat, and my husband had the veal medallions. The tomato & burata starter and the grilled watermelon salads were delicious. Beautifully presented. Our server was excellent, very experienced and personal. John Bentley's is a hidden gem!
We had another amazing meal at John Bentley’s! This is a favorite destination for our family for any and all occasions. The food is always excellent with much seasonal variety and many very creative specials. Always a treat that seems to get better each time.
Each time I dined at John Bentley's, the fare was delicious, and was agreed by all at the table. I enjoy the ambiance at John Bentey's; it has a bit of old world charm, which I love , and the wait staff waste no time in offering their guests a drink, &. telling us about their specials . The wait service is excellent throughout. One of our group had never had the experience previously, however, he cannot wait to go back!
