We go to John Bentley's when we want a wonderful meal in a very enjoyable location. This is my favorite restaurant in the Bay Area. The tuna tartare appetizer is the perfect combination of tastes and the hanger steak is outstanding. I love the ambience and the service is very attentive. I highly recommend!
We are so stuck on JB's there just aren't words. The most well-composed beet salad I've ever laid eyes on, let alone tasted. First-name basis with many servers. Dad orders the salmon every single time, and raves. On the way there, we make bets on the dessert. Will it be the bread pudding, or the baked-Alaska lemon semifreddo? Oh brother, just the thought of either makes the mouth water.
Do your taste buds a favor and pay JB's a visit.
We have been dining with John since his beginning in Los Altos. Recently he added a new vegetarian entree using trumpet mushrooms as a pasta.....outstanding! And I'm not a vegetarian, but this dish could possibly convert me. I can't wait to get back to order it again! My husband had the lamb special and was taken back to the days it was on the menu in the Woodside location. If you have not eaten here, check it out.....you'll be happy you did!
We were celebrating our anniversary with another couple and had a wonderful time and enjoyed a wonderful dinner. We ordered a sparkilng wine to start and I brought an older vintage (1983 Dunn, Howell Mountain Cabernet Savignon) which worked perfectly with our various dinner choices. A grilled Rib-eye, double cut pork chop, lamb chops and Trumpet Mushroom “Pappardelle". All of these were done to perfection and we shared bites among us as we each declared our dinner choice as the best. John Bentley's is the type of restaurant that one would more likely find in San Francisco, but I'm quite happy that it isn't. We will be back...
The entire experience was simply outstanding and we appreciated your passing on the fact that it was our 55th wedding anniversary!
When greeted at the door the woman noted that it was a special occasion for us, and as she seated us in the booth we had requested, she noted that as well.
The waiter was helpful and professional - unobtrusively checking back for any needs or questions and the complimentary dessert was much appreciated!
May we also compliment Open Table for making all the reservations so easy and complete.

We enjoyed our dinner immensely. We come down from San Francisco which should say alot since there are plenty of places to go there with great food, service, etc. We used to frequent the Woodside location but we brought family from the UK for a special meal and were very pleased. We will continue to frequent this establishment.
John Bentleys is fantastic! We were seated promptly and the greeter and busboy were excellent. Our waiter, Che, was knowledgeable, friendly and always looking after us. As it was our 46th Wedding Anniversary, John gave us a complimentary dessert. We will return to John Bentleys...and soon. An A+ experience!
As an aside, I unknowingly dropped my dark glasses on the floor under our table and received a phone call from the restaurant when we got home that night telling me so and they arranged a time for me to return the next day to retrieve the glasses. Very efficient!
My wife, daughters and I went to Bentley's for our 42nd anniversary. Our table was ready right at our reservation time. The flowers I ordered on Open Table were on the table as requested. The food was excellent, though a little pricy, but worth it. John Bentley gave my wife and I deserts at no charge and they were wonderful. The waiter we had was very well trained and very attentive to our needs. All in all we had a wonderful night and I would definitely go back again and definitely recommend Bentley's
We enjoyd a wonderful meal last Monday night with an out of town friend from Ninnesota. Just happened to select Bentley's on Open Table but we had not been here before. The place was nearly full so the only detraction was the noise level. The service was impeccable and the food excellently prepared. Appetizers were creative and the lamb and ahi tuna were cooked to perfection. Will return.
The food was very good and the wait staff very pleasant. When I made reservations, they asked if it was a celebration, and noted that. We had a variety of fish dishes, and all were delicious. Only one note: When servers announce their evening specials, I believe it should be a restaurant policy that they also let the diner know the prices. I don't care how nice the restaurant, or in what price range the restaurant operates in, it is respectful to give the prices at the end of the description.
We have been going to John Bentleys' for years. Often we made reservations at the
Woodside Restaurant. Since that restaurant is no longer a "Bentley" we go to the
Redwood city venue. I just had the calamari salad--really refreshing and good and
as always the Ahi Tuna. I dream about that dish.
The restaurant has a warm, club like feeling.
The food and service here was excellent. I had the diver's scallops and they were cooked to perfection. They crispy on the exterior and were moist and tender inside. Served on a bed of garlic mashed potatoes and a tangy slaw on the side which balanced the flavored and textures perfectly. Will definitely return here!
