John Ash & Co. Ratings and Reviews
Great food and service. Wine waiter was excellent and found us a reasonably priced wine that exactly fitted the description we had given him.
Waiter was patient and gave us plenty of time between courses. Food came perfectly prepared and had not been sitting waiting.
Scallops were sensational. Veal excellent. Perfect for a special event.
Aside from our gas heater going out and my feet were freezing, and some sarcastic comments made by our server, everything else was perfect. Plus, no one could get the gas heater turned back on. Wait time to be greeted was a bit long; nevertheless, I will be returning.
Our dining experience rocked! We arrived a bit early so we’re seated in bar area. Noted very casual attire from wine tasting patrons. Bar orders took 15 min. for delivery, but enjoyed well crafted cocktail and wine suggestions were great.
Dining room was so comfortably appointed with cozy fire place blazing. Service was excellent. Food so good!
Loved lobster “escargot style” appetizer, sea bass, and lamb trio. Experience was refined but really fun.
We enjoyed a wonderful dinner. We decided on the pre-selected menu. I had New York strip and my wife had the Sea Bass. I noticed this was the first time we finished each course with nothing left on both plates. Portion control was perfect. We didn't leave hungry and we didn't over eat. One minor serving mistake was made when our entree's arrived before the soup. Worth mentioning, but didn't subtract from a great experience.
Excellent space, nice bar vibe, menu was very appealing - but my Cassoulet was flat in flavor; even after I asked the server why it was in "quotes" on the menu and was assured it was a classic preparation. Not, based on my previous dining experiences.
Wife had stuffed squash, very tasty.
Foie gras trio was excellent, as was the service.
Wine country prices and service, but the execution on certain dishes needs improvement.
It has turned into our valentine day to go place over the years with its special offering. Food and service always what you would expect from a restaurant of this type. The decorations for valentines in the dining area were great. Big lull between our first two servings and our main entree. Server sort of intimated the kitchen was busy all at once. Not a real big deal as we were enjoying the evening but the vegetables that went with my dish were a little over done for my liking. Overall, if not traveling we will be back next year.
We went for Valentines Day and couldn’t have been more pleased. They decorated all the tables with Valentines balloons so it looked very festive. They had a special Valentines Menu which was great. I had the salmon and it was delicious and my husband had the duck, which was also delicious. This is actually the second time we have had dinner there and we love this place. They also have a fantastic happy hour!
We chose to celebrate St. Valentine’s Day early and chose John Ash as we hadn’t been there in a long time. The evening got off to a poor start when despite our reservation the front desk staff didn’t know where to seat us. Once seated we had to move to a quieter table. A lot of large loud groups to avoid. Once settled our waiter and the bussers were excellent.
The food was excellent also. Well prepared dishes served at their moment. The wine list however was thin in variety and promoted the owner’s label too much.
We will go again but won’t be rushing.
The food was good, we had the 4 course meal with wine paring. I had the fish on tray, the fish was cooked perfectly however the dish had sweet potato puree and a sweet vinaigrette so the dish was much to sweet. The service was excellent and the room was beautiful.
John Ash is always a wonderful experience. Great food, great service. The small tastes at the beginning and end are a nice touch. Request the outside, enclosed patio if you want more quiet. In the winter, they have heaters that do the job. Post-fires, this place is hopping as so many other options are no more.
We've had consistently good luck at John Ash. Outstanding food, and a quiet and peaceful atmosphere that makes dining a pleasure and not an ear-splitting noise fest as can happen at some many other restaurants. Excellent, unobtrusive, unfussy service. Fairly priced for the high quality, as well.
We celebrated New Year's Eve with a Prix Fix Menu at John Ash & Co. The restaurant was very nicely decorated and the meal was exceptional. We had a marvelous time as our server was also attentive, other than forgetting to refill our water glasses. My only criticism was the location of our table. It would have been far nicer to sit in the main dining room, instead of in the 'sunroom'. Overall, it was a memorable, delightful evening. We shall be back.
Beautiful NYE evening with a wonderful 4 course meal. We had made a comment on our open table reservation about the couple we were with being their anniversary, however nothing happened to acknowledge the occasion. No matter, it was very busy and probably just an oversight that did not take away from our wonderful evening at John Ash. My wife had the Salmon and I had the Ribeye dinner and they were both exceptional.
Dined New Years Eve. John Ash featured a 4-course menu with 4 choices per course. My Pheasant main course was outstanding - juicy and tender. My wife’s beef filet was a bit undercooked (more rare in the middle than med-rare) leading to my 4 stars for food. Great New Years decorations and very good service - too good in the case of one busboy who hovered around our table to clear my wife’s second course plate. Had a terrific dining experience.
