John Ash & Co.
Service was excellent. 3 out of four items we ordered were very good, but one entree (the short ribs) was so bland and the side that came with it (spoonbread) was so equally nondescript that it brought the meal down. The Ahi Crudo was excellent, the lamb trio was very good also with the sausage leading the pack, along with a really tasty grilled rib - the third member of the trio was over-cooked and lacked flavor. The Whiskey Persimmon Cake was wonderful. -- Pricey. At those prices, we hope for more oversight in the kitchen.
Excellent as always!
The service at the restaurant was just okay. The food is extremely overpriced and doesn’t taste that good. I’ve been to cheaper restaurants with better ambience and better food. My wife and I regretted coming to the restaurant. No wonder they have to offer Travelzoo deals. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
This was a Mother’s Day dinner for four. Everything was wonderful. Everyone was more that pleased with our dinners. Eating in the patio area for me is a real delight especially when the lights are on after sunset. A very special environment.
Only down side was my chair and the adjoining tables chair were too close. The server kept bumping my chair while serving the other table.
We were incredibly disappointed by the Mother’s Day meal we ate at the event center and will not si that ever again. There was little food left by the time of our reservation and we felt we were eating leftovers.
Food was surprisingly tasty and service was lovely. However I was *not* notified that it was a buffet and in the events center not the main restaurant. My Mum hates buffets, and was looking forward to a white table experience with the full menu. This felt like a bait and switch which was a bad customer experience.
An extremely disappointing experience. Was very much looking forward to our evening. The property and the ambience were wonderful. The waiter in the bar area was great. However, the rest of the evening was a disaster. We were seated in a cozy room with six other tables. The waiter greeted us with “are you ready to order dinner?” We had not been informed of specials, had no water on the table, or a request for cocktails. I had to ask for water four times, our cocktail glasses sat empty and we had to flag down wait staff to re-order, between courses the waiter left my used dirty knife on the table and picked up the clean unused utensils. I ordered the lamb and twice it was not cooked as requested and my date’s Steak was undercooked. We waited close to 30 minutes between our appetizers and entrées to arrive, the rest of the room had cleared out and the restaurant was not busy and the table next to us was left with dirty glasses and plates and linens which were not cleaned off while we dined. The waiter blew out our candle ( yet all of the other candles stayed lit on the dirty empty tables around us) before he even asked us if we wanted dessert, and we were not the last patrons in the restaurant. My meal was taken off the bill however after it being delivered twice to the table and not cooked properly, I did not eat my entrée. There was no apology from the waiter and the manager never stopped by the table to ask us how our evening was. The website said nice attire and yet we had patrons around us wearing dirty T-shirts, shorts and flip-flops and ratty jeans. I typically don’t write reviews but this was such an incredibly disappointing experience I felt the need to share.
First visit - Excellent food and service. Looking forward to returning....
Everything about our experience was enjoyable. The service stands out and is always exceptional. I always feel like I'm royalty by the staff. The food is always a sensual and delicious experience!!!
Wonderful service and food!! Enjoyed everything about our dining experience.
I think we had a very good experience with our dinner with John Ash! Very pleasant and Romantic!
My husband and I have been celebrating important dates at John Ash for 12 years. The last three times we have eatten there in the last 18 month's I had to send my steak back three times because everything on my plate was cold. I forgave them the first time, and even the second time made excuses for them because my sister was in town and we took her there for her birthday. But last week we went again and my $47.00 steak 1/2 potatoes were cold and my 3 asparagus was not cooked. This place is overrated and I can't continue to give it good reviews.
Service started out fine, then declined. Had to wait quite a while for check and ask 3 times for my boxed food (we sat an extra 10 mins waiting for it). My husband asked for med rare steak and it came med well. We didn’t send back because we only had a little over an hour for whole meal and it took a half hour before our entrees came. I think you need to plan on at least 2 hours here. Ambiance was great! We would give it another try.
We came here before the Willie Nelson concert as a Mother’s Day gift. My mom, who transferred to Heaven loved Willie, so we came for a nice meal and received an incredible meal. Great service, halibut and steaks were outstanding. Great ambiance. You can carry conversation and hear. Thank you for a special evening.
The wait staff is very helpful, if needed. Get the wine pairing recommended.
The food and the service were as expected in an upscale establishment. The noise level was so bad my wife & I sitting side by side could not hold a conversation. We will try at least once more, hoping for a more pleasant meal.
You really can't top the beautiful Vintners Inn property site for a true "wine country" experience. Even though we live here we never grow tired of the beauty of this area. Our table was ready right on time and they encouraged us to eat on the enclosed glass patio which faces the grass area and vineyard rather than inside the restaurant. We were a bit hesitant because of the outside temperature and wind but they assured us the overhead heaters would keep us comfortable and they also had standing heaters near by if we needed them. It was perfect! We even asked them to turn off the side heaters.
The food, as always was wonderful. Lobster Risotto had good sized chunks of lobster and was a surprisingly large serving and the chicken was perfectly cooked and presented nicely. Not a huge amount of chicken but enough to satisfy. The beet salad was very good. Great wine list with both reasonably priced selections as well as higher-priced excellent choices.
Once in the dining area the service was wonderful and the food was fantastic. The bar area service and cocktails need a little help. The cocktails were a little unbalanced and the service a tad slow but very nice. They forgot about our reservations so that was a little frustrating but overall it was a good experience.
Very lovely evening
Always a superb dining experience in every way.
My Husband and I were celebrating our 6th wedding anniversary.
Good food and service. I would rather have sat inside as it was a little nicer than sitting on the patio. There was a dress code on the website and was very disappointed that they didn't enforce it as there were people wearing shorts, jeans, etc.
Fine evening of dining- John Ash has a upscale country- club feel; beautiful grounds to stroll on before your meal; almost a traditional, dark interior, with comfortable banquettes and tables. Hushed elegance- no noisy 'kitchen experience' here. The food was outstanding, with a large selection. Our favorites included lobster risotto and scallops. Service was exemplary - quiet, efficient, unobtrusive. The wine list- on an iPad- was vast, but clever! You can search by AVA, name, varietal, vintage.
We celebrated an anniversary, and received special attention and a lovely complimentary dessert to share, with a candle!
My husband and I dined at John Ash 7 years ago and it was wonderful! We wanted to bring our friends when visiting the area and we were so disappointed. The waiter was not very helpful and knew nothing about the overpriced wines. Two people at our table ordered medium rare steaks and both came out medium well. The chef replaced them and gave us free desserts, but for the price we paid for our meal ($650 for 4 people), we felt the food should have been much better. It was just okay ...
I ordered small plate of lobster risotto and my friend ordered the dinner size. Both were equal in size but not equal in price. The plate was very hot (not warned by the server) but the risotto was only Luke warm. I also ordered the beet salad and it was delicious.
The ambiance was the best part lovely setting. Wait staff was ok but not very friendly!
Ask for Alan, he was outstanding and made our 25th Anniversary very memorable.
Awesome as always. Best cocktails, service and meal possible. Again and again
All good! Food was good with special treats before the meal ( a taste of cold soup) and afterwards (truffles) Great service. We had a coupon and it helped with the price. Nice place to go for a special occasion
Everything was lovely about the Easter Brunch we had at the last seating of the day. Beautiful space, inside seating near windows, excellent food and drinks, attentive waiters. When asked they made me a custom fruit plate (during dessert) as I am not eating processed sugar, and it was very nicely done.
We had Easter brunch at John Ash. Our table was on the back patio, windows open with a spectacular view of vineyards. It was picture perfect. The wait staff was attentive but never rushed the meal.
Disappointed that an old favorite didn’t meet expectations. Haven’t been in a few years and went for Easter brunch. Surprisingly slow service given that really weren’t terribly busy.
The food wasn’t up to the caliber it used to be - my companion had Eggs Benedict and couldn’t cut the muffin. It literally was rock hard.
The waitstaff person did remove that from our check and admitted that they had changed vendors and the new muffins were “harder”. And that was the right thing to do.
But after years of always having good experiences, this one fell flat.
Lamb chops ordered "medium", came out practically raw in middle. Fried chicken ordered "dark meat only" came out with all white meat. Not very good for a place that tries to be five star.
Decent dinner but food and service well below previous visits to the wine country
Excellent, as always... No corkage fee on mondays is a plus.
Josh, our server, was wonderful!! My steak was a bit overdone and he immediately had it corrected. Otherwise, dinner and dessert was spectacular-as was the service!
We celebrated our engagement day with a wonderful dinner at John Ash & Co. The entire night was amazing. The food and service was top notch. Our waiter was friendly, attentive and very accommodating. Since we were staying at Vintners Inn, we asked if our dessert could be sent to our room and our server went out of his way to make it happen. We really enjoyed our night and appreciated everyone who helped make it one to remember. Thank you again to our waiter, the staff and management team. We will absolutely be back soon and would recommend this restaurant to everyone!
On a Thursday night took my clients to a place I know would have great food and service. Everyone else what there, too. Totally packed at the Front Porch and dinning room. Wanted to get seated a few minutes early, but no way.
Top quality for food, service, and the place to be.
Overall good experience but the food was a bit disappointing. Two of the three meals we ordered were bland and lacked good flavor. Would go there again to try other dishes though.
John Ash provides reliably great food. They always make us feel welcome with little extra bites before and after the meal. The service generally was very good; my only complaint is that we were half way through our main course before being asked if we would like a refresh on our drinks.
