This was our first time to dine at this restaurant. Everything - the place, the food, the service, was absolutely wonderful.
John Ash is one of our favorite restaurants, and we try to go there often, especially on a special occasion. This was a birthday, and our first real dining experience since the pandemic. We had expected things to be a little shaky, but for the most part everything was ok. Just not up to the standards we had been used to. The service was good, the bar was disappointing, but due to Covid restrictions, totally understandable. The wine list and food were the biggest disappointments. The calamari was definitely wonderful, but there were not a lot of salad options on the starter menu, and we ended up having the endive salad. It was swimming in dried cranberries, and you couldn’t taste much of anything else. The Seabass was over done and dry, and, believe it or not, the short ribs were overcooked and essentially mush. I know this is not the norm for John Ash, and we are hoping that with the opening of California, this usually stellar restaurant will shine again.
Aside from the outstanding food, the venue is very pleasant and inviting with ample, and convenient parking, and beautiful vegetation. John Ash has done a great job in providing safe distancing between diners. They have provided very comfortable outdoor seating next to the vineyards, as well as the well spaced indoor seating. Staff was very friendly and attentive, and as I mentioned, the food was outstanding.
As always, we had a wonderful dining experience. Our water glasses were always full, empty plates were whisked away, the food arrived promptly, and our waiter was delightful.
The food was incredible. The menu was easy to read and, since I am gluten intolerant, it was nice to see those choices.
We were celebrating our 49th wedding anniversary and John Ash helped make it special.
Excellent, thoughtfully prepared cuisine from appetizers through dessert.
Our group had a couple of special needs and the staff did everything they could to accommodate us. Very impressed with the level of customer service.
John Ash offers several gluten free options, which weren't the usual boring GF options we see at other restaurants.
Over the top menu choices and outside garden ambiance!
Martini perfect, short ribs perfect, chocolate cake too good, service WONDERFUL,
Great food. Wonderful service. Lovely ambiance outside near the vineyard. Interesting choices on the menu. Nice pacing - we never felt rushed. Pricey, but well worth it for a post Covid celebration.
We celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary and it was perfect! Enjoyed good food and drinks.
The service wasn’t as welcoming as other good restaurants in the area. It also was very cold on the patio. They need heating lamps close to the tables. Food was good but not great for the price.
Beautiful setting with excellent service and carefully prepared food.
A baby was crying in this restaurant. A definite distraction &detraction at a restaurant that shouldn’t allow these situations
Our first time at John Ash, and what a perfect experience! The service, the food, the setting... it was beyond expectations. The baked oysters in parmesan custard were particularly memorable. That's a dish that relies on that perfect balance of when to finish cooking the oysters, and they were just right. Everything else was wonderful. The wine list had a nice range and the selection, assisted by the server, was spot on. The chocolate stout layer cake was sinfully good and a perfect cap to a great experience. Our focus was "small plates" but the regular plates on the menu looked really good too. A nice bonus: it's a great restaurant for people-watching. We'll be back.
Dining at John Ash is relaxed sophistication with heart.
Party of 4. We were lucky to have Wade take care of us through out our meal. He was professional, knowledgeable, showed interest, and has a wonderful sense of humor. Wade was instrumental in our wonderful experience at the restaurant.
We have been to John Ash many times and have never been disappointed.
Beautiful location and ambiance. Pricey. Food under seasoned - I had the veal and my husband had the short ribs - best part was the risotto and polenta. The appetizers and cocktails - oysters and potstickers were the best part of the meal. Unhurried which was nice, but service was not particularly attentive.
Great place, food and service. (Best oysters we have had in a long time). We were ahead of schedule and they accommodated us with an earlier reservation. The server was knowledgeable and friendly. The facility was beautiful and we will come back.
Food was delicious, most staff were great, main waiter was not very attentive, I even had to ask for wine to be corked. It was a mediocre experience considering the cost and occasion
The food was amazing. Everything was so fresh and had great flavor. I would highly recommend this restaurant. We might book our wedding here simply for the food.
Christopher in the front desk was very nice. Our waitress was excellent. I gave four stars instead of five because a guy with a purple suit in the front desk didn’t want to give us a table in the bar even though there were tables Available. But Christopher came to the rescue and found a table for us.
8:15 reservation didn't sit down until 8:40. Dinner took 40+ mins to be served. No water refills, drink requests, or much attention at all.
This is one of the most romantic and special dinners we have had in a long time. The setting outside in the gardens with vineyards and lights was so romantic. The service is outstanding. The food was impeccable including multiple vegetarian/vegan options for me. Normally I only have to one option but I had choices and had trouble choosing! Absolutely amazing.
Service was exceptional. Food was well prepared, delicious, and served properly.
The restaurant is well appointed
Everything was absolutely delicious. We had a wonderful time.
We had a great waiter and a fabulous meal, highly recommend.
John Ash was the perfect choice for my “foodie” grandsons 13th birthday dinner. The food was very good and my grandson said his Veal Oscar was the best meal of his life.
Beautiful setting, fabulous food, great, friendly waiter.
The service was prompt and engaging. We both had seafood entrees and enjoyed them immensely.
Wine prices seemed high, but not that is a personal choice
The veggie sides need a lift. My steak and potato was very good but the veggies had almost no color do it was a monochromatic affair. This has happened before with other dishes. Great service and great hors doeuvres and dessert.
The vegetables were over cooked and looked old. The color of the mirepiox of the artichoke barigoule was cooked beyond recognition and the potato gratin tasted refrigerated and re-heated. Our waiter was great! Won’t go back and won’t recommend. So much fresh and better cooked food in Sonoma County.
As promised, excellent food quality, presentation and service. Beautiful ambiance...a little cold until they closed the glass and turned on heaters.
Our server, Wade, was excellent. His wine recommendation was outstanding. I highly recommend the sea bass - the lemon sauce on the asparagus complemented the sea bass as well as the asparagus. Everything was delicious and cooked to perfection. A great special occasion restaurant.
We celebrated a belated Mother’s Day
We had the salads which were fresh and delightfully dressed
Shared the charcuterie board which was wonderful
Scallops, bass and short ribs were wonderful.
Espresso chocolate cake and also the cheese cake to top
It all off were fantastic.
The staff were wonderful and offered to take photos of us. Most friendly and accommodating.
We have dined here a few times as well as having our wedding and reception held here. Always a wonderful time.
An absolutely wonderful place for a 5-star meal set in a location amidst a lovely vineyard. The food is amazing, service stellar and the ambiance is great for a romantic dinner for two or getting together with friends or family!!
If you haven't already enjoyed a meal at John Ash & Co, be sure to put it on your list of things to do soon!!
Dated - a bit stuffy. It appears it is riding on past reputation. Table presentation - well there is none - just a couple of mats and glasses. The culinary experience was very weak.
My short rib meal was very bland and the portion was child sized. I was very disappointed and won’t be dining there again. It’s unfortunate because the restaurant is only ten minutes away.
