John Ash has been a favorite place of ours since the 1990’s. We even got married here in 2013 and we often come back to visit the “scene of the crime.” The cuisine is consistently outstanding and the setting is out of this world. I can’t say enough. Even though we lost our nearby home in the October wildfires, we will still visit as we now live in Windsor. My only complaint is the price of wine. It is WAY beyond exorbitant compared to other high end restaurants in the area. We typically pay TWICE as much at John Ash for the same exact wines! This has nothing to do with value, just way overpriced. We would eat here more often if the wine was more reasonably priced. Carole & Jim
I loved everything about the dining experience except for the service. We were never asked if we wanted more wine while our glasses sat empty. No one ever came around to fill our water glasses until I asked a passing waiter. Our empty plates sat in front of us for the longest time until cleared. The food was absolutely delicious and atmosphere extraordinary. But the service, for the price paid and the atmosphere of the restaurant, was severely lacking.
Very nice and relaxing dining experience
Large mushroom undercooked and served cold Ceal chop fat , grisly, could not chew one piece, undercooked from medium rare order. Server not much personality
The food was excellent and the service impeccable. This made for the best Mother's Day dinner ever. Highly recommended. CGB
New York steak was a huge disappointment. Chili rellano was excellent. Time to up the game, though.
The table we were seated at was very dark. We requested another table but they were unable to accommodate us (party of five). Two of us ended up eating our meal by flashlight just to identify what was on the plate. For the price they charge for a meal I would like to see what I'm eating.
Exceptional atmosphere and service
Never had a bad meal food outstanding its a comfortable place to be staff wonderful , love to eat at John Ash's
Our family comes to John Ash often and have been doing so for about 15 years. It isn't what I would call a "foodie" restaurant but it is a great consistently good restaurant. There are always some local items on the menu & their wine list is extensive. We tend to come with a big party - six or more - and John Ash is very accommodating to parties that are larger. The bar area is perfect if you just want something fast & a good cocktail. The restaurant is located in a beautiful vineyard setting and the outdoors is covered.
Fabulous service. Celebrated my birthday and they couldn't have been more attentive.
Always a wonderful place to eat. Services wonderful very attentive.
The bar was great with delicious cocktails and good appetizer selections on their happy hour menu which they were running until 9:00 pm on Saturday night. They collaborate with local farmers so the produce and meat were very fresh and high quality. Other than a dirty spoon with my blood orange gelato and an obnoxious kid running around outside the patio enclosure, my steak with truffle butter and my husband's grilled pork chop were quite good. The gelato was good also once a new spoon arrived! The add-ons on menu items were over priced and should be included or taken off the menu. The leek soup, for example, should always have the bacon lardons, with the option to leave them off if you prefer.
Have lived in the area since before John Ash was built. Never seemed to have the interest in dining there but to help celebrate my wife's birthday decided it was about time to try. Everything was fine other that a bit noisy on the outside dining area. Not a total distraction but a party of six near us was a bit loud.
Food was excellent, service by Steve was prompt and friendly.
Will not wait another 35 years to visit again.
We celebrated my niece's 60th birthday. We requested, and were seated at, the sem-round booths on the upper level. This is quiet and gave added attention for a birthday event. My niece received a bonus dessert as a gift. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly. The food is somewhat expensive, but the dinner was worth it.
Always fabulous service and food at this place. The grounds are wonderful to take a little walk around before or after dinner. Food and service empeciable !!!
This is a beautiful restaurant with lovely decorative touches and indoor and outdoor seating. We sat indoors, and they had a fire going in the room we sat in. Nice ambience. Our server was very helpful and service was just fast enough that we didn't feel rushed. Our daughter had a lovely cheese plate and leek soup. I enjoyed the veal steak with au gratin potatoes and mushrooms and my husband raved about his halibut. We were all too full for desert, but the server brought out a tasteful creme brulee for my husband in celebration of his birthday. I'd definitely recommend John Ash.
Beautiful setting, great service! Especially enjoyed the cheese plate
Absolutely wonderful dining experience. Celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. We were treated like celebrities. Fantastic attentive staff, beautiful food and ambience. Totally recommend this whole experience. Thank you to management and staff.
Gorgeous view of the garden which overlooked the vineyard. The setting was wonderful as was the food and staff. The menu isn't extensive but there was definitely something for everyone. The risotto was fantastic and could be shared as an appetizer if you didn't want it as an entrée. Will definitely go back.
The food was so delicious. The wait staff was on the ball and friendly.
Waited 20 minutes despite being on time for the reservation. The wife ordered the lobster pasta which was very spicy. Service is mediocre at best. We brought a bottled wine with us from a nearby winery we had visited, yet the waitress kept on asking us if we wanted drinks instead of opening the bottle we had. Disappointed.
Jessica and her team provided outstanding service. The food was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and delicious! We had the steak tartare, cheese assortment, duck cassoulet, and lamb three ways.
Birthday desert was a nice touch
Birthday. They knew but didn’t mention it. NO, we didn’t want a song!!!
This spot was recommended by a friend. I read some review that were both good and bad. I took a chance the the service was amazing, the fish, the salad, the wine and the cocktail were all good and well with the visit to Santa Rosa.
I would eat here again and again.
Beautiful restaurant with outstanding food and service. We enjoyed every moment here and look forward to treating ourselves again when we are visiting the area.
Food was slow in coming to the table we finished one bottle of wine, perhaps that's the idea? Other than that the service was great, beautiful venue but the food was just good not great. We will return as it is so convenient to the LBC .
This was the most disappointing meal in recent memory. This place has badly deteriorated from what it was. Lackluster, boring menu, terrible service (upgraded bus boy-server had NO sense of the flow of the meal), cold food, receptionist did not listen to my requests (she would repeat it back and say the exact opposite). I serially expressed my displeasure but clearly no one cared. This place is living on its 25 year old laurels. Don't waste the money.
As usual, John Ash & Co did not disappoint. A well deserved date night was an enjoyable and delicious experience.
This was probably one of the worst fine dining experiences I’ve ever had.
Overpriced and underwhelming. Seated at the worst possible table in the back with 0 view of the vineyards. ( maybe because of open table res?!) My prime rib was super fatty and the crab pasta tasted too fishy. Very disappointing. Would never go back.
Clients loved their first experience a John Ash. They will be back.
Absolutely superb! Food was delicious and service was extraordinary exceptional, usually only get exceptional at most restaurants.
We have been enjoying John Ash restaurants for 35 years, both in the original location and in the current location. In the 1980s, my visiting customers loved to go there for lunch or dinner. My wife and I recently celebrated my birthday there. She had the daily special (salmon and prawns on a bed of greens) and loved it. I had the Chef's Lamb Trio, of which one component was the most tender lamb I have ever tasted.
The head waiter Alan has served us on previous occasions, and he is very knowledgeable about the wine list and menu.
The place serves only dinner, but has a companion cafe next door called River Vines that serves breakfast and lunch on weekdays and brunch on weekends. We have only had lunch there, and have been very pleased with it.
John Ash is a bit pricey, but the overall ambiance (including views of the vineyards) makes for a great experience.
Perfect and the Maître d' is friendly and knowledgeable. Must go!
This was an awesome find! Great ambiance and I would recommend this place for a happy hour, date, special occasion, birthday or anything! The food is phenomenal and the service is impeccable. I highly suggest staging on property, too. Can’t wait to return again!
My husband and I love John Ash & Co. This was only our 2nd time dining there and I can tell you that it will definitely not be our last. We brought a family member who was in town celebrating their birthday and they really enjoyed the tasting menu and added wine pairing to compliment the tasting menu. We tried some new cocktails that were offered and got to enjoy the lovely outdoor seating, plus the service here is always great.
We enjoyed dinner at JOhn Ash & Co whilst we stayed at the Vintners Inn. Their cocktails are great and also service very good. Being in wine country I expected the food to be more special than it actually was. t was not bad at all. We tried the lamb trio.
The food and service were fantastic. They seated us ahead of our reservation and had a great selection of wines and beer. The wait staff were friendly and attentive. Meal was pricey so I wouldn't eat there every day but for a special occasion it is worth the price.
