John Ash & Co.
Four of us were celebrating a birthday and this is definitely a place for a special occasion. The food was outstanding especially with the perks of the Amuse-Bouche before and chocolate truffles after. The service was above and beyond, I think we had about four people waiting on us at once! Love this place and will definitely be back!
This place always has the best food, service and views.
Beautiful facilities, great bar... the food (Halibut) was lacking flavor. The Thai dish was flavorful and as expected. The cocktails were delicious. One server in the bar area (pre dinner cocktails) was having a bad day, but service in the restaurant (John?) was spectacular.
The beet salad was a small portion but good, orderes the lamb trio, the chop was bland and the small portion of shank was okay. ate here a few times a little dissapointed. The scallops and prawns were good. Very good service
Excellent food, very good service, beautiful interior
I typically love John Ash but our table was a little disappointed in the portion size of entrees in relation to cost.
Our service was excellent and the food was very satisfactory.
I wasn't impressed with the halibut. there wasn't much spinach and some strange pasta balls under it. Just didn't go together and not much food. My boyfriend was happy with his food. steak potatoes and asparagus. the wine was good but expensive. we loved the atmosphere. there were kids outside banging their forks on the table. we had to move inside due to that.
I always order the four-course tasting menu. The pork tenderloin is exceptional.
Amazing! Had always heard through the years it was wonderful
It was unusually quiet tonight, which totally worked out for my hubby and I for our anniversary dinner. The services from beginning to end was incredible, as well as the food and wine pairings. We absolutely loved everything!
Always enjoy our Yearly celebration of our anniversary. This year 54 years. Treated excellent, great table, view of garden and grape vineyards. Food very tasty and good.
There were 6 of us. The guest of honor ordered a dish that had scallops. She had to send them back as they were barely cooked, almost raw. My wife ordered the Halibut which was grossly over done consequently quite dry. I and another person ordered the SPECIAL rib eye steak with crusted coffee which was to be caramelized on top. What we received was a very cheap piece of meat that was heavily grizzled with excessive fat. The crusted coffee was never caramelized and was more like a sickening heavy gravy that you would associate with short ribs. The meal was VERY disappointing as this has been one of our favorite restaurants ever since they opened in Montgomery Village. This used to be the restaurant that we would recommend to anyone who wanted a recommendation. I can't recommend anymore.
65th anniversary. Arrived early evening; decided on chef’s selection instead of usual salads, entree, etc. we enjoyed each dish and took our time to enjoy it. We haven’t been disappointed here in a long time.
Dining on the enclosed garden view room is great.
View of vineyard, roses and other colorful flowers is beautiful.
Food is great and locally sourced.
Creative cocktails and a good wine list.
It is my favorite place to go for special occasions.
Whenever you dine there is feels like a special occasion.
As of now, June 5, 2019 they offer a complimentary corkage on a bottle of wine.
With so many wineries and tasting experiences, you are sure to collect your favorites.
The restaurant wine by the glass selections are good. Wine by the bottle selections are very good and reasonably priced too.
Desserts are shareable and change frequently.
Be sure to walk around the grounds to see what is in bloom.
Very good service, someone was always prompt with whatever we needed. They set aside a special table for our Anniversary. The food was very good. Only thing negative, we were sitting right next to a table of grown men who used the F-word constantly, wasnt very romantic or mature. They should have been seated at the bar.
A venerable establishment which has continued the excellence of it founder John Ash. Menu is varied and the ingredients fresh. Dishes were creative and well prepared. Service excellent. Ambiance was delightful. You need to know it's there but worth the effort to find.
The service was superb at John Ash. The dining room was fairly quite and it had a nice ambiance. My husband and I both ordered the special rib eye steak with broccolini and polenta. Our appetizers were very good and dessert was wonderful. We were both disappointed in the streak we ordered, however. It was prepared well, but it was way too fatty. I understand rib eye does have more fat, however, I had to cut away almost half of the steak. The polenta was undercooked, not creamy as I’ve had in other restaurants, and the vegetable was bitter. We will give this restaurant another try, but I may try the seafood next time.
This has been our special occasion restaurant for many years. It is beautiful, the service is flawless, and the food is creative, well presented and delicious. It is always a pleasure to dine there.
My wife and I were there for our anniversary dinner. Everything was fantastic however the noise level was quite high due to a large party that was nearby. We would have preferred a quieter seating
We enjoyed both the food and the service. We did not like the noise in their patio which has a tile floor. It would have been better in the main dining room which is quieter.
John Ash is wonderful for someone looking for a traditional fine dining experience. The food is delicious, the wine list extensive, and the service impeccable. This is also one of the few restaurants we've been to lately that is relatively quiet despite the number of diners. Lovely!
The service was super slow both in the bar and the dining room even though there were several empty tables. The clam chowder was too salty and the ahi tuna tartare was room temperature and would have benefitted from being chilled. Given the cost we probably won't be back.
Sean, perfect host; Alan, a wonderful guide through the menu and wines, with a sense of humor included.
Two out of four meals were the special of the day ribeye both Were very fatty to the point of being in edible . One was the 2 lb and we feel we should have been informed of the price being $120.00 at least half was not edible the other meals were very good and the service was excellent desert also was excellent
Loved our meal! My husband really enjoyed the veal chop offered as a special. John Ash is our go to place for birthdays and anniversaries.
We ordered the following items:
1) Dungeness Crab Fritters - Salty.
2) Lobster Risotto with a side of prawns & crispy pork belly - Risotto was very salty. Prawns & pork belly were very average.
3) Special: Veal Chop with mash potatoes & mushroom - Veal chop was very tender & mash potatoes were salty.
4) Apple & Blueberry Crisps - Bad.
5) Ferrari Canaro Pinot Noir - Wonderful.
It was my husband’s birthday; the server was very attentive. She gave my husband a little birthday dessert including ice cream & cream brulee.
The service was wonderful but the food was salty in general.
Our first time here, surely not our last. Both the food and the service were exemplary. First, the service both the waiter, knowledgeable, always there when we needed him, the bus boy was the best, one of our party had a wheat allergy and passed on the great bread, so he brought her wheat-free crackers, with the wrapper so she could check for other ingredients. Above and beyond, after the meal when we were enjoying our truffle, he brought her a strawberry with balsamic.
The waiter was very knowledgeable about subtleties in the dishes, each of us had something different, my Husbands Lamb dish terrific, also the lobster risotto, gelato to close.
Based on my recent dinner, I wouldn't recommend John Ash & Co. However, I have eaten there a couple of times before and had more positive experiences, so I'm willing to give it another go sometime. The service was lackadaisical to say the least and the lobster risotto blah. Neither problem is unsolvable, but considering how expensive the restaurant is, things should have been better. The crab fritters were yummy and the wine suggestion excellent.
Food is very good, but small portions. Took a very long time to get each out. We were there for 2.5 hours, not including the half hour we sat s the bar.
Service was excellent. 3 out of four items we ordered were very good, but one entree (the short ribs) was so bland and the side that came with it (spoonbread) was so equally nondescript that it brought the meal down. The Ahi Crudo was excellent, the lamb trio was very good also with the sausage leading the pack, along with a really tasty grilled rib - the third member of the trio was over-cooked and lacked flavor. The Whiskey Persimmon Cake was wonderful. -- Pricey. At those prices, we hope for more oversight in the kitchen.
Excellent as always!
The service at the restaurant was just okay. The food is extremely overpriced and doesn’t taste that good. I’ve been to cheaper restaurants with better ambience and better food. My wife and I regretted coming to the restaurant. No wonder they have to offer Travelzoo deals. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
This was a Mother’s Day dinner for four. Everything was wonderful. Everyone was more that pleased with our dinners. Eating in the patio area for me is a real delight especially when the lights are on after sunset. A very special environment.
Only down side was my chair and the adjoining tables chair were too close. The server kept bumping my chair while serving the other table.
We were incredibly disappointed by the Mother’s Day meal we ate at the event center and will not si that ever again. There was little food left by the time of our reservation and we felt we were eating leftovers.
Food was surprisingly tasty and service was lovely. However I was *not* notified that it was a buffet and in the events center not the main restaurant. My Mum hates buffets, and was looking forward to a white table experience with the full menu. This felt like a bait and switch which was a bad customer experience.
An extremely disappointing experience. Was very much looking forward to our evening. The property and the ambience were wonderful. The waiter in the bar area was great. However, the rest of the evening was a disaster. We were seated in a cozy room with six other tables. The waiter greeted us with “are you ready to order dinner?” We had not been informed of specials, had no water on the table, or a request for cocktails. I had to ask for water four times, our cocktail glasses sat empty and we had to flag down wait staff to re-order, between courses the waiter left my used dirty knife on the table and picked up the clean unused utensils. I ordered the lamb and twice it was not cooked as requested and my date’s Steak was undercooked. We waited close to 30 minutes between our appetizers and entrées to arrive, the rest of the room had cleared out and the restaurant was not busy and the table next to us was left with dirty glasses and plates and linens which were not cleaned off while we dined. The waiter blew out our candle ( yet all of the other candles stayed lit on the dirty empty tables around us) before he even asked us if we wanted dessert, and we were not the last patrons in the restaurant. My meal was taken off the bill however after it being delivered twice to the table and not cooked properly, I did not eat my entrée. There was no apology from the waiter and the manager never stopped by the table to ask us how our evening was. The website said nice attire and yet we had patrons around us wearing dirty T-shirts, shorts and flip-flops and ratty jeans. I typically don’t write reviews but this was such an incredibly disappointing experience I felt the need to share.
First visit - Excellent food and service. Looking forward to returning....
Everything about our experience was enjoyable. The service stands out and is always exceptional. I always feel like I'm royalty by the staff. The food is always a sensual and delicious experience!!!
Wonderful service and food!! Enjoyed everything about our dining experience.
