John Ash & Co.
Great food, great experience. Highly recommend. Food was excellent and service was superb.
We were disappointed with 1 of 3 meals. We were comp’d for that meal which was greatly appreciated. This is the first time I’ve ever been disappointed so I will go back.
Nice atmosphere but quality is food was only so-so. While most, the chicken lacked real flavor. The side dishes accompanying the short ribs were unidentifiable and did not add anything to the dish. The short ribs themselves were very good.
Fantastic staff! From the beginning, the host, Christopher was delightful. Sean, the somm is excellent and so friendly. Wait staff is well trained. Food was delicious. In particular, the salmon was a hit at our table. Salads were also delicious! We will be back soon!
After hearing all the rants and wanting to impress my girlfriend I made reservations for a Valentines day surprise! Unfortunately I was the only one surprised. I ordered the Rib Eye steak dinner of which I took one bite. It was extremely dry and literally crumbled, when I bit it, into large curd sized (cottage cheese) pieces of meat. I can only assume this was an anomaly as I've never seen a negative review and I am far from a fine food critic. The staff were all very accomidating and friendly and we enjoyed all other aspects with the exception of that one piece of meat. I was wondering if it was looked into even mentioned to upper management or if it was simply dismissed as just a matter of bad luck?
The food was good but took way too long between courses.
My partner and I made reservations for Valentine's Day dinner. The prix fixe menu contained three courses and offered a variety of tasty options. The food was absolutely wonderful, especially the duck potstickers. Unfortunately, the entire service took 2+ hours and we were not lingering over our plates. We ate our bread, then waited for 30 minutes. We ate our entree, then waited 40 minutes. The amuse-bouche was forgotten about. Our server was very kind but we saw her maybe once every 45 minutes while others were bringing out plates. I honestly wondered if she quit in the middle of dinner and went home without telling anyone. Meanwhile, the table next to us decided to throw a huge fit over the wait time. A manager approached, apologized, and offered to comp her whole meal. I guess the squeaky wheel gets the grease. I kept my mouth shut and had to pay $200+ for dinner/drinks while they ate free. Remind me to have a tantrum in public next time something like this happens.
Second meal at John Ash - very well prepared. Surprised there is not a more robust per glass offering in red and white wine. Rombauer 2017 Chardonnay hit the spot for Valentines Day. Crab appetizer was exceptional
Just was busy
Valentine’s Day celebration, the ambiance was excellent and very romantic. Plus outstanding food. We are ready to visit again.
My bride and I celebrated our 37th Valentine's Day together here. With our reservation, the wait was around five minutes. The service overall was very good, but there was a snafoo with one server not getting our initial drink order to us. To their credit, even though the delay was only about five minutes, the servers comped the champagne. The dungeness crab leg bite was very nice. Milady had a wonderful bibb lettuce salad whilest I tried the duck potstickers. I found them to be good, but not exceptional in any way. The highlight of the meal was the scallops. They were perfectly prepared with a flavorful sear and oh so tender flesh. The macadamia nut tart was an excellent finish to the meal, but I could've been happy with my last lingering taste being a bite of those scallops.
My husband and I went for Valentine's Day to try a new restaurant and it was such an amazing experience! The food was fantastic and the service was impeccable! We sat in a closed off outdoor space with patio heaters and strings of lights that reflected off the windows as the sun went down. It looked like we were surrounded by stars and with the soft lighting of fire from the heaters it was so romantic!
They had a special 3 course Valentine's Day. Everything on the menu sounded fantastic and they had gluten free and vegan options. My husband and I had the lobster bisque and duck potstickers to start and the flavors were fantastic. We both had the steak which was perfectly tender and came with a side of potatoes au gratin, which was great. The quality of food and service well exceeded the relatively low per person rate for the special menu.
Great experience. Wonderful food, old fashioned should be served with Large ice cube instead of small ice cubes that melt but otherwise perfect!
We dined inside. People at the bar were loud and disruptive to our dining experience.
I have to say we were disappointed in the restaurant, especially given it's reputation. The service was indifferent, we waited a long time for the waiter to come around and take our order and then never checked on us during the meal. My steak was done properly and the sides were good. But our Cabernet wine did not taste good with the cabernet reduction on the meat. My wife's meal was a small portion, Only two scallops and three shrimp on top of some mystery vegetables and flavorless beans. Barely an appetizer. The dining room itself was extremely noisy. The room was only half full yet we could not carry on a conversation across a two person table.
The food was incredible! Thank you chef and staff for a delicious, romantic night. Staff was attentive and kind, atmosphere so lovely...
Birthday dinner with my wife and everything was fabulous!
I chose this restaurant when dining solo and on the spur of the moment because I've always heard rave reviews about it. Upon entering, I felt like I was in a restaursnt in Europe. The decor, lighting and furnishings were excellent and the background music of light jazz was welcoming, as was the hostess. The bread offerings with sweet butter whet my appetite and were a good accompaniment to the baby greens w/apple cider vinaigrette. My favorite item was dessert. I chose Lemon Cheesecake with creme fraiche. The best part of the experience was the high caliber service and wait staff. I can't wait to go back.
We were a party of 3 women celebrating a birthday. We let the waiter know that we wanted an evening of unhurried service. The food was outstanding, the service was as requested, not slow but very aware of when to interrupt conversation flow. Special attention paid to birthday person including a special desert. Even a round of truffles for all of us as a final complimentary touch. If you are looking for a gourmet dinner with a great selection of wine, John Ash & Co. is definitely a great choice!
Our favorite restaurant, however, the service was terrible on this evening.
The Pork Saltimbocca was definitely over cooked and dry. The jalapeño corn muffins were delicious along with the desert we had.
The food was not good the plating was poorly done. I had to add salt to everything, one person had to send her dinner back. STAY AWAY They say it is a michelin Restaurant but I beg to differ, I've been at mom and pop places that would rank much higher than this place. Ambiance was nice but why pay the price for just ambiance. Not a Foodie place at all!
Fantastic food, ambiance and service. There was a very loud, blostrious woman in the bar area that was the only negative.....
Food was delicious, done with perfection. Staff was accommodating and friendly. This is a top shelf restaurant.
We have been coming to John Ash & Co for many years before we moved to Santa Rosa, and it remains one of our favorite restaurants. Our recent experience continued their tradition of excellent food and great service. For the first part of the meal we really enjoyed the setting, and our guest was impressed. Then a party of eight were seated near us (they had been in the bar earlier -- we heard them when we arrived). They were extremely loud and boisterous, and basically ruined the rest of our meal. I realize there is little a restaurant can do to control this, but as their website states they encourage "guests celebrating a special occasion". Perhaps this group should have been seated in the bar for dinner, as a full menu is available there.
It was lovely! First time there and we will definitely be back!
Food was very good, near outstanding, except that the soup and both of our main dishes were unnecessarily oversalted.
Bread great, food ok. Used to be great.
The dinner was fabulous, lobster risotto (I took home left overs from the small portion) and beet salad for starters. I've been going to John Ash's restaurants since moving to Sonoma County in 1981. They are consistently outstanding and reliable for a good meal. The chef is very accommodating and always sending out a surprise (free) bite. YUMM YUMM. Normally the restaurant isn't noisy--just so happened to have a loud party of 12 celebrating a work success. Cheers to them!
Impeccable service, good wine, perfectly cooked food priced reasonably. We had a lovely anniversary on the patio. There are a few standing heaters of the flame-in-tube type between some of the tables plus it seems each table has its own heater overhead; which I elected to have shut off when offered. Highly recommend.
Great atmosphere and quiet. Way overpriced for quantity and quality of food.
Whether your visit is for a special occasion or simply to enjoy fining dining, John Ash will meet or exceed your needs. The food is exceptional, the service is top notch and the ambiance suitable for truly discerning diners!
in comparing this to our meal the night before in San Francisco, we found it wanting. Not that the meal wasn't "good", it just wasn't "great" (which was the case at Zingari in SF). Lamb 3 way had a nice sausage, good chop with imaginative sauce pairing, but the shank was dry... so... good but not great. Salad was iffy at best - I expected more and have been better satisfied here before - and this was mid week, so really, no excuse for the meal not being top shelf.
Great food , great service, timely food to the table
We have eaten at John Ash & Co. a number of times over the last few years. Until this dinner, we have always been very happy. Both the service and the food have gone downhill. It is not the same top notch place that it was in the past. Sad.
The food is good but a bit pricey for what you get. You are paying more for ambiance and service.
I took my husband here for his birthday today, and the service was slow, we both felt ignored, and the food was subpar. I would not recommend or go there ever again.
I had a good feeling about this place and I wasn't wrong. My husband and I had a great time we were celebrating his birthday, he loved it and I think we will definitely be back soon.
We really enjoyed our meal at John Ash as a special treat while visiting Santa Rosa. The crab fritters and short ribs were delicious. We also enjoyed the local wine. Great for a date night.
We were celebrating a special birthday celebration and all of the staff were very respectful and polite. The food and ambiance were amazing! We will definitely be back for more special occasions!!
