John Ash & Co.
Decent dinner but food and service well below previous visits to the wine country
Excellent, as always... No corkage fee on mondays is a plus.
Josh, our server, was wonderful!! My steak was a bit overdone and he immediately had it corrected. Otherwise, dinner and dessert was spectacular-as was the service!
We celebrated our engagement day with a wonderful dinner at John Ash & Co. The entire night was amazing. The food and service was top notch. Our waiter was friendly, attentive and very accommodating. Since we were staying at Vintners Inn, we asked if our dessert could be sent to our room and our server went out of his way to make it happen. We really enjoyed our night and appreciated everyone who helped make it one to remember. Thank you again to our waiter, the staff and management team. We will absolutely be back soon and would recommend this restaurant to everyone!
On a Thursday night took my clients to a place I know would have great food and service. Everyone else what there, too. Totally packed at the Front Porch and dinning room. Wanted to get seated a few minutes early, but no way.
Top quality for food, service, and the place to be.
Overall good experience but the food was a bit disappointing. Two of the three meals we ordered were bland and lacked good flavor. Would go there again to try other dishes though.
John Ash provides reliably great food. They always make us feel welcome with little extra bites before and after the meal. The service generally was very good; my only complaint is that we were half way through our main course before being asked if we would like a refresh on our drinks.
We have been dining at John Ash since its inception. This is the first bad meal that we have experienced. The poor quality of the food, particularly when compared with price, makes us seriously question if we will return. The halibut was overdone and dry, the ahi was awful and the pasta was gummy. This was very embarrassing as we had highly recommended the restaurant to our guests. WHAT HAPPENED?
I took my sister and brother-in-law from Lake Forest, IL to John Ash. Everything was the way I expected it to be based on previous dinners there. Both of them commented favorably on their meals and were pleased to find that we could hear each other talk. They commented critically on restaurants in the Chicago area, reporting that increasingly the lack of sound insulation ruined dinners with friends. I explained to them that John Ash is the number one rated restaurant in Santa Rosa and my brother-in-law responded that he could see why. We had three different entrees and they were all excellent. I can't wait to return.
It was our first visit, and it did not disappoint. Definite treat for my husband and I. Thank you for a beautiful evening, start to finish.
John Ash is a very special place to enjoy a delicious dinner and the pleasure of excellent service in a truly lovely setting. We have dined there many times and always look forward to returning.
It's so nice to be cared for when dining at John Ash. From beginning to end, there's extra touches that make the evening special. Birthdays are celebrated. The experience us worth every penny!
Outstanding, as usual. Great food, great service, beautiful facility. Outstanding.
John Ash has been our favorite restaurant ever since moving to Santa Rosa in 2011--has always been a positive experience. We were, however, a bit disappointed this past week when the four of us were there for dinner. Two of our party ordered the lobster risotto, the other two ordered the scallop/prawn entree. The lobster risotto was good but needs some accompanying side dish. The scallops for our taste were undercooked. Several months ago when we were there, I ordered the pork entree which was extremely salty--would not order that again! Oh, forgot--the beet salad this time was very minimal--could have been many more beets for the price.
So, in general, we do enjoy John Ash but thing they could maybe change the menu occasionally and scrutinize the entrees they offer.
This is a great place to take a date for the first time or for any special occasions! Just be prepared to pay far too much for what you are getting. The setting is very beautiful, the staff is excellent, most of the dishes are delicious and the wine list is good but limited and caters specifically to the higher sophisticated individuals in the crowd. You know, the ones with more money than they know what to do with and feel like they aren't getting anything of value unless it costs a small fortune. Potatoes Fondant for instance, seriously? A cold, hard, raw cylinder of spud with some paprika sprinkled on it! On what dinner table would you ever find this? When people hear, "potatoes", I garuantee we are thinking of something hot, tasty, and satisfying. Probably not very healthy but satisfying to say the least.
Over the years we have had both excellent and underwhelming experiences with John Ash. My wife had the lamb, which she had ordered and loved about a year ago. This time it was dry and under seasoned. She did rave about the Rye/persimmon desert.I ordered the halibut. It too was over cooked and unflavorful. The vegetable grain accompianment was bland. I think we have seen the last of John Ash.
I will say our waiter was pleasant and professional.
Excellet service and food. Entire experience from start to finish was outstanding. Will definitely return!
Not what I was hoping for with the high price point. The food was not outstanding in any way. We had the chef's pairing with wines. The 3 out of 4 wines were very good, but the waiter (who was very pleasant and attentive) didn't know much about the wines. When consulting the wine list on our own, we found flowery descriptions but no information on the wineries or even the varietals of each wine. We opted to take our dessert to the bar because the dining room was completely empty by that time. The bartender was less than enthusiastic to see us. Instead of helping us choose a dessert wine, he handed us a computer tablet and walked away. It was a $350 meal but a $50 experience. Not going back again.
My dinner and dessert were the best I've had in many years. I mean memorable. I wish we lived closer so I could go to John Ash more often.
We haven't been to this restaurant for a few years. No big changes. Food still quite good, service also very good. Lovely setting.
This is one of the best...... Everyone must experience for themselves ..... such a gift!
Our experience was outstanding. I had a stroke and I had to have extra service, which is given to me.
Food was outstanding. The service was really good.
First the positives:
The restaurant looked good.
The service was good (not exceptional).
Now the negatives:
The food was fair (I had the filet mignon, which was a little too seared on the outside; when you most remember the three onion rings that went with it then that's a problem).
The seating was cramped, I felt like I was in a dinner party with the strangers next to me.
The value was poor. For $50 I expected more than a biscuit-size medallion. There was even cost-cutting with the on-demand bread basket.
I've recommend to my friends to go to some place like the Villa or the Occidental. The food's just as good and it's a better value,
The food was delicious and big portions. We love the relaxing feeling and the staff was wonderful.
The setting was simply gorgeous and the staff very attentive. The first course was delicious, as was the Angus beef fillet entree. Sadly, the pork tenderloin entree fell far short of the description. Overall a pleasant experience and worth visiting, but skip the pork and order the beef fillet! So good!
The three veal entree was fantastic. Great service!
Great service! Very nice people. Great food too. My husband and I sat overlooking the vineyard and it was beautiful.
Superb as always. Food outstanding and service as well. Always a great treat.
Mom’s 60th birthday
We were celebrating our 34th wedding anniversary, we wee dotted at one of their best tables. Food and service was great, we had a great time!! Well recommended!!!
We had a wonderful experience at the restaurant. The food and service were so excellent that we came back the second night of our two-night stay at the nearby Vintner's Inn hotel. The staff is warm and friendly and were wonderful with our special son who was celebrating his 18th birthday, and the food was just exquisite. We had the lobster risotto and squash soup, among other things and they were exceptional. Great ambiance, and overall a wonderful experience. Thank you! We can't wait to come back :-)
Outstanding menu and service. If you can be seated on the outside enclosed terrace, do it! It's a relaxing and luxurious experience.
A fantastic enjoyable evening. Thank you. Food and service was great. Never felt rushed.
We go to John Ash & Co. many times a year for jus special events or just for a wonderful atmosphere and delishious dinner. The food has always been fantastic, taste texture and flavor. Always different menu is it so wonderful, can not say much more than that. Staff is just as great.
A beautiful restaurant with a nice menu and wine list. However the food was nothing special - good, but not outstanding. I suspect that the specialness of the place has diminished as John Ash is no longer the chef. Not recommended for those looking for a great meal.
Arrived early for our reservation and was quickly seated in the bar area for drinks before our dinner table was ready. All the staff there were awesome! The seating/atmosphere went beyond my expectations. My date for the evening was quite impressed! Quite impressed with the crab fritters and calamari as starters. Our main course, the Sea Bass, was great.
Table for 2 was great, but very drafty coming from the front door. The fireplace made it seem a little warmer. The beet salad was delicious. Scallops were tender, but the shrimp seemed overcooked. Service was a little slow with Restaurant Week in full swing.
I have been here many times over the past 15 years. It's still one of the few places that still employs white table cloths in the dining room.
This meal was the best I had ...service: professional -casual/ great quality and large portions of food/ reasonable price (Sonoma County Restaurant Week).
The bar area is also a great place to grab a more casual/lower cost dinner.
I’ve been here a few times and have always been impressed. It’s a beautiful setting. Food is delicious and service excellent. At night, the vineyard/garden area is lit up so it’s a romantic, gorgeous view from your table.
