John Ash & Co.
Great food selections with attractive presentation. Service was excellent!!
The food was good, although not exceptional. Portions were unfortunately small for the price you paid. Three scallops as a main course? If it was part of the tasting menu, that might better allow diners to try all things presented, but with only an appetizer the servings were small particularly for the price.
Terrific service and excellent food. An anniversary dinner that was memorable.
Service and ambiance were wonderful. The only issue, was the seasoning on the Bass special was very salty.
First but certainly not our last time at this beautiful restaurant. It is upscale without being pretentious. A nicely balanced menu between seafood-meats-plant based. Food was prepared to perfection and service was friendly without being intrusive. The dining room and bar were accented by quiet music.
Coming back for the lobster risotto and the peachy keen
I ordered the chef's special salad for the evening. I expected a perfectly ripe heirloom tomato with some proper presentation but it was a hard ripe cut in random chunks tossed in a small bowl with a splash of balsamic.
Great service but food very over priced based on flavor or inventiveness.
If you are seated in the outdoor area, it is quite scenic. We came here 1.5 hours before a show at the nearby Luther Burbank Center, and the waiter was perceptive enough to ask if we were going to a show and did his best to get things going in a timely fashion. We had no problem making it to our show on time.
Beautiful patio, wonderful food and great wine. We got the chef’s tasting menu. Each course was delicious and well-paired with the wine they served. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!
The restaurant is a very large building with very high vaulted ceilings. I guess the intent is to be over the top impressive. The food, while good, was not outstanding especially given the great availability of high quality and creative cuisine in the general area, (CA wine country). The air conditioning just raged on for the two full hours we dined. A howling cold wind on your head and neck does not add to the ambiance. Restaurant owners and managers just don't get it. Although pleasant, our server was MIA all night. Busboys just as rare, so any little item needed, or to have another round of drinks or a refill was not possible. We got the perfunctory check-in from the server about 30 seconds after the long delayed entrees arrived, "Is everything to your liking?" Well, I did not have a chance to really start eating, I don't know. And off he want, not to be seen until the table was cleared and he offered desert. We declined.
The entree meats were very tasty, pork chop and filet, but the chop arrived only warm. The accompanying gnocchi were dense any gummy. All considered, it was an average meal for over $200.
John Ash provides the total experience you'd ever want to experience. The setting is beautiful, the tables are set widely apart, the service is spot on, the bar is lively with great tapas, the menu is so interesting and the food has always been superb. I brought two out of town business people this time and both are bringing their spouses back there as soon as they can. A great restaurant.
We have had the opportunity to eat at John Ash many times and chose it once again as the place we wanted to celebrate our 35th anniversary. They seated us as requested in a quiet, cozy booth off to the side where we were able to have private conversation. The food is always fresh, full of flavor, beautiful presentation and enough variety on the menu to accommodate most anyone’s tastes. They also have a superb wine list! Each server pays attention to details and works in tandem as a team to make sure you have a wonderful experience.
We were given a travelzoo voucher by our son so decided to use it for our anniversary. Our experience couldn't have been nicer. Delicious food, good service, lovely decor what more can you ask for? Had never heard of this restaurant before, but will definitely be back.
perfect night, our waitress Jessica was outstanding .food ,service, ambience was a 10.
We had a very nice table with a view of the gardens as we requested....My husband ordered the special of "pheasant" and I ordered salmon......both of us are "foodies" and he didn't think his was all that great (told me later) and my salmon was on the bland side. We always expect food that is better than we can cook at home so this was disappointing. Otherwise, our service and ambience were great.
Fantastic Restaurant! Excellences in all ways! Chef very accommodating with any special request!
Please, more non-pasta, VEGETARIAN menu options with some form of vegetarian protein included.
We went in with visiting friends from the Midwest - so had requested an outdoor table next to the vineyard (two weeks in advance) to show off all that Sonoma County has to offer. This was not provided which was a bit disappointing. The service in the bar for our predinner cocktails was extremely slow (12 minutes for a glass of wine). When asked - the server responded “we just got slammed” - with no acknowledgment (or apology) for the lengthy delay.
However, John Ash is one of the best restaurants in Sonoma County from the food perspective. Utilizing all local and fresh ingredients makes all the difference in their food quality and presentation. “Things that grow together - go together”. We will be back - again and again and again.......
Been here twice for major anniversaries from waaaay out of state. Great service and food!
I went to dinner there with a colleague of mine, and we both thoroughly enjoyed our meals and beverages. The service was excellent, and the atmosphere was very conducive for relaxation. I would definitely recommend this establishment to anyone who would enjoy a great meal!
We sat by the window next to the butterfly garden at dusk.... heavenly!
I was really impressed how the entire staff worked together...
Great experience. Attentive staff. Delicious food.
We had a fabulous time at dinner. Our server was wonderful. The food was great. They had a special drink they had just put on the menu called “Peachy Keen” and it was delicious. My husband and I had such a wonderful time, and enjoyed the outdoor seating that they had.
We have never had anything but a wonderful time and great food & service. We will be back!
John Ash is a Sonoma County classic. It has been a high end restaurant for 35 years. If you like fine dining, you should consider a meal here. Pricey, but not outrageous.
Excellent food and atmosphere. I loved the scenery!
Loved it. Went for a 79th birthday party and could not have been happier. Had some major food issues to deal with and the staff and chefs were fabulous in accommodating all. Wonderful evening
John Ash is a great reactant for any special occasion. For Sonoma County, a little pricey. However, compared to the city, a great value.
Delicious! Food and service were excellent!
Sat next to a large party after I asked for a quiet table. Very noisy.
Loved the bar ambiance/bar tenders, OUTSTANDING oysters, scallops entree and of course wine selection. Service at dinner was just ok, but I’d come back in a heart beat! Hope to walk around the beautiful grounds and garden next time!
We have eaten at John Ash at least 30 times in the past several years...and have NEVER been disappointed. The food is exceptional and the Chef and his Team are extremely accommodating. In our opinion it is the best restaurant in Sonoma County.
Nothing beats the beautiful garden setting of John Ash on a warm evening in the summer. It feels European and with some updates to the menu, the food was a resounding success!
We went to John Ash for my husband's birthday. We have been there several times for celebration dinners. The food is always delicious!! Everything looks so good it makes it hard to decide what to order.
Fantastic dinner, from the hostess to the food/ wine/ service! Beautiful table w/ a view of the garden. Delicious menu, we had the risotto with lobster, and the scallops. Best ever ever ever!
Our waiter was very classy with just the right amount of attention! Superb guy.
We will dine there again! It was our first time!
We celebrated our 49th anniversary at John Ash, we were greeted quickly and the host was very nice. We enjoyed the outdoor dining area on a wonderful west county day. We chose the tasting menu with the wine paring. the food was everything we had come to expect with this restaurant and better. While we chose the wine paring, we did peruse their wine list and it is well curated and the prices are very reasonable. The service was very good, but just missed on some small details but not enough to be concerned or disappointed. All in all, a great dining experience.
Went there for celebrating my birthday. Sitting outside and the view was really beautiful (the highlight). Food was great. Service was great too. The only thing I would be picky was wine. Chose Duckhorn cabernet 2014 half bottle, good not that impressive. Overall, great experience. Will take into consideration for the event.
WE visit Santa Rosa once every year, and always plan to dine at John Ash at least once.
This year was no exception and we had a wonderful dinner, perfectly cooked meat with appropriate veggies and wines. The vineyard ambience is second to none.
As always the food was outstanding as expected. We were celebrating a special occasion and they never fail to deliver.
