Johannes Ratings and Reviews
Johannes is one of our favorite restaurants in the Coachella Valley. It is good in every important way, and it is dependable. I marked "value" down a bit for this review because the "special" pricing for the prix fixe Valentine's Day menu--the only menu available on that day--was a bit high for what was basically a shortened version of their regular menu plus some specials. But demand is high for that holiday, so it figures.
Johannes restaurant does no disappoint!
Excellent food, we go there only for their snitzel, the best we had in a long time. The server recommended an austrian red wine, an excellent recommendation. For an appetizer we had the Brussels sprouts salad and the red beat salad with goat cheese, highly recommend it. For desserts I recommend to try the apple strudel.
An excellent culinary experience, highly recommend it.
Johannes is one of our favorite restaurants! They never disappoint. The food is exceptional, the wine choices are excellent, the service is attentive, and it’s a lot of fun! Whether you sit in the bar, or sit in the dining room, it’s always a wonderful experience!
This was the best meal we had in Palm Springs and the last time we dined here it was good as well. Lobster, shrimp and scallop appetizer in a remoulade sauce B+. Diver Scallops on a bed of leek, potato and roasted corn in a cream sauce with a truffle reduction B+. Endive salad B+. Cheese Spaetzeln B+. Make sure to ask to sit in the main dining room which is nice but the back room with a concrete floor and barn siding wainscoting has zero ambiance and bring a jacket because it is cold! The food in Palm Springs is not known to be good. We asked out tour guide of mid century homes what places he liked and he said the food in Palm Springs is awful. The reasons given were that there were a lot of old people there with conservative taste and a lot of people from the mid west. Bibra was decent and the hippest restaurant in town. Spencers was old school and boring with bad gazpacho but people seem to like it and if you like steak go there. Felipe's has very good chile rellenos and fish tacos and and La Perlita has very good chile rellenos as well. Greek Islands was also pretty good get the whole bronzini.
We have dined here many times and never been less than fully satisfied with the food and service. The chef and kitchen staff turn out a varied menu of Cal-Alsatian dishes, including the best schnitzels in the valley. Waitstaff are sharp but not stuffy. George (at the front) is the perfect host. The bar menu is a great value, and the patio in front is small but super for watching the passing scene. A top spot in the Palm Springs area.
Our server/bartender on February 6, 2018 was simply excellent. Extremely friendly and efficient, she handled a crowded bar & patio with ease, made craft level cocktails herself, staggered delivery of our dishes at our request for a nice leisurely dinner pace. I wish I could remember her name. This was a post Father-Son Golf dinner, the best service of four that we had in Palm Springs. It's all about the schnitzel, perfectly cooked, but could have used more seasoning. Great place, only 6 seats at the bar, so make a reservation.
We come here every year we come to town. It’s our favorite restaurant in Palm Springs. It doesn’t matter what you order. It’s all amazing. The traditional schnitzel with a sauce with it is our go to meal. Add some of the brussels sprout salad and a special cocktail and you will be in heaven.
The waitress was very good but the servers were quite confused bringing some of our food to other tables, refreshing bread at other tables but not ours. They were polite but maybe not used to being so busy? We would go back again. My duck was delicious and my husband enjoyed the schnitzel. The restaurant is lively
3 of us had classic Wiener schnitzel, which I love and have many times in Vienna. Consensus: Good, but too breaded and not as thin as it should be. Better than most I've had in US; uses real veal, not pork or chicken (although you can get those here also). One had a sausage schnitzel and said it was great. Service and atmosphere excellent
Celebrating my father’s 74th birthday and wanted to take him somewhere nice. I’ve eaten her before and have always considered this place a special treat. This time was no different. We were seated promptly and were greeted by our server who was energetic and outgoing. The service was excellent as was the food. At the end of the meal our server brought my father a delightful dessert with a candle and the words Happy Birthday drizzled in a raspberry sauce. All in all, a very enjoyable experience and I’ll definitely be back.
Johannes is one of the best places in Palm Springs for great food, service and drinks! The appetizers are amazing - escargot, cheese spaetzel and meatballs were shared and enjoyed by 6 of us and the lemon caper chicken schnitzel is a must! Exceptional service!
It's been over a year since we last ate here, but this place retains its focus on great food. The wiener schnitzel menu provides a fabulous incentive to keep coming back! Wonderful to see it so busy and successful (though parking is a challenge during the season on a Friday).
