Delish! Would go back
Entertaining my brother and wife from Olympia Wa.
My wife and I enjoyed our meal at Johanne's. I particularly liked my entree, veal medallions in a mushroom sauce with cheesy spatzle. The seafood appetizer was also over-the-top delicious. The service was very good. We went on Valentine's Day, when the only offering was a 3-course prix fixe menu. There were plenty of options for each course, which was good, but the cost was pretty high, which brings down the value score. The regular menu is also pretty expensive, but you can manage the cost more easily. I would go back, but probably not on Valentine's Day.
Johannes is one of our favorite restaurants in the Coachella Valley. It is good in every important way, and it is dependable. I marked "value" down a bit for this review because the "special" pricing for the prix fixe Valentine's Day menu--the only menu available on that day--was a bit high for what was basically a shortened version of their regular menu plus some specials. But demand is high for that holiday, so it figures.
Average food, nice place but on the expensive side for what it was. Was there of Valentine's which required an 18% service charge for some reason. Overall a decent experience but there are much better in Palm Springs for less.
great food. Of course we had the schnizels. good portion. tasty. we sat in a corner surrounded by signs which remind travelers of Prague. highly recommend.
great place. good food. service seemed a bit off.
Have been there a few times. Always have same excellent waitress and damn good food!
We love Johannes Restaurant
Always good. Love the food and the service is always good. A very well run restaurant. I go back again and again for the schnitzel, but my friend had the swordfish and it was exceptional. if I lived closer to Palm Springs, I would go more often.
Johannes is always a good bet. The food is good, drinks are excellent and the service great. The atmosphere is quiet and pleasant. It’s not really a “scene” but that is good
Johannes restaurant does no disappoint!
Excellent food, we go there only for their snitzel, the best we had in a long time. The server recommended an austrian red wine, an excellent recommendation. For an appetizer we had the Brussels sprouts salad and the red beat salad with goat cheese, highly recommend it. For desserts I recommend to try the apple strudel.
An excellent culinary experience, highly recommend it.
They had a nice table on time. Great friendly server. We were not rushed and did not wait much between courses. The weinersnitzle was fabulous. We will be back
Johannes is one of our favorite restaurants! They never disappoint. The food is exceptional, the wine choices are excellent, the service is attentive, and it’s a lot of fun! Whether you sit in the bar, or sit in the dining room, it’s always a wonderful experience!
What's not to love! The food is consistently excellent along with great service.
One of Palm Springs Best!
Six of us dined at Johannes. Each of us tried one of their famous schnitzels and we enjoyed the food. The staff was very accommodating and responsive.
This was the best meal we had in Palm Springs and the last time we dined here it was good as well. Lobster, shrimp and scallop appetizer in a remoulade sauce B+. Diver Scallops on a bed of leek, potato and roasted corn in a cream sauce with a truffle reduction B+. Endive salad B+. Cheese Spaetzeln B+. Make sure to ask to sit in the main dining room which is nice but the back room with a concrete floor and barn siding wainscoting has zero ambiance and bring a jacket because it is cold! The food in Palm Springs is not known to be good. We asked out tour guide of mid century homes what places he liked and he said the food in Palm Springs is awful. The reasons given were that there were a lot of old people there with conservative taste and a lot of people from the mid west. Bibra was decent and the hippest restaurant in town. Spencers was old school and boring with bad gazpacho but people seem to like it and if you like steak go there. Felipe's has very good chile rellenos and fish tacos and and La Perlita has very good chile rellenos as well. Greek Islands was also pretty good get the whole bronzini.
We have dined here many times and never been less than fully satisfied with the food and service. The chef and kitchen staff turn out a varied menu of Cal-Alsatian dishes, including the best schnitzels in the valley. Waitstaff are sharp but not stuffy. George (at the front) is the perfect host. The bar menu is a great value, and the patio in front is small but super for watching the passing scene. A top spot in the Palm Springs area.
Food and Service excellent
Had the endive salad and duck. Both were fabulous. I think that this place serves best food in Palm Springs.
Our server/bartender on February 6, 2018 was simply excellent. Extremely friendly and efficient, she handled a crowded bar & patio with ease, made craft level cocktails herself, staggered delivery of our dishes at our request for a nice leisurely dinner pace. I wish I could remember her name. This was a post Father-Son Golf dinner, the best service of four that we had in Palm Springs. It's all about the schnitzel, perfectly cooked, but could have used more seasoning. Great place, only 6 seats at the bar, so make a reservation.
A superb meal. First time having the Malayan Meatballs- amazing-- My wife had the Special MONKFISH, excellent as was my usual Veal schnitzel Skipped desert. Had two starter aperitifs. Negroni & Sweet Sherry- Both excellent and reasonably priced.
Great restaurant with excellent service, delicious food and wonderful wine selection. Ambiance was pleasant with beautiful presentation. Only negative is the noise level with a full house.
My husband and i made a special dinner date so we could go to Johannes for Fried Oysters,Brussels salad n tuna tartare and shared the best duck ever.
We come here every year we come to town. It’s our favorite restaurant in Palm Springs. It doesn’t matter what you order. It’s all amazing. The traditional schnitzel with a sauce with it is our go to meal. Add some of the brussels sprout salad and a special cocktail and you will be in heaven.
First time here. Highly recommended by friends and didn’t disappoint us. Will definitely go again. Not many places like this
The waitress was very good but the servers were quite confused bringing some of our food to other tables, refreshing bread at other tables but not ours. They were polite but maybe not used to being so busy? We would go back again. My duck was delicious and my husband enjoyed the schnitzel. The restaurant is lively
Outstanding food and service in a contemporary setting.
It was GAYMAZING! The service was impeccable, the food was delicious and the ambiance perfect for a special celebration.
