We are frequent guest and as always the food and service was excellent. Thanks again to Johannes for providing our special request.
Johannes always has tasty, seasonal, delicious recipes. Another home run
Love when a restaurant honors an older coupon. Always a nice experience, even when the food isn't its usually terrific. A couple of us enjoyed the scallops, but the mix of veggies were rather chewy. Service is always great, but the folks who cleaned the plates were a bit rushed. Johannes is a terrific cozy spot right off of Arenas. Alcohol drinks are a bit pricey, but it's hard not to walk away with a good dinning experience.
As always, great food, great service. Best restaurant in Palm Springs.
I ordered the scallops on the menu. It has to be the best scallops I
Have ever eaten. Perfectly prepared and presented. The oysters were wonderful and beautifully prepared.
I’m a frequent patron here. The host, an older male, walked away from the counter and another male walked up. I checked in with him an he said they were setting our table. About 10 minutes went by and the regular host walked back to the station. I walked up and asked to check with him, as I did not know if the previous person checked us in. I’m not in the restaurant business. I don’t know their inner workings. This person stated, the other person checked you in. You only made your reservation an hour ago and we are doing the best we can. I feel this should never have been yelled across the front room for everyone to hear and very unprofessional. I did not say anything in return as that is not my way. I was not trying to push ahead of anyone in the least but just trying to make sure we were acknowledged that we had a reservation and we were there. Palm Springs has a great number of restaurants that we go to and love the food and service. We will unfortunately spend our money elsewhere than Johannes in the future.
The only criticism is that the waiter had to be reminded to bring an ice bucket to keep our bottle of white wine chilled, and it took a long time for him to come to our table and take our dinner order. The portions are quite generous which helps to offset the cost of having dinner there.
Fantastic as always. !!!
First time experience and we are asking ourselves, why did we wait so long. Hands down one of the best experiences we have had in Palm Springs. The food was not only beautiful but it tasted amazing. The chef blended flavors and paired the food items perfectly. Our server was perfect and the timing of the meal could not have been better. His suggestions we spot on and exactly what made the evening even better. Amazing job by all. We will be back!
I've eaten here a handful of times and this was my 3rd Thanksgiving meal with Johannes.
Usually I would rate them 4 to 5 stars but this year's experience was bad. Service was pitiful ( forgot to serve the bottle of wine when the main courses came out) and never came by to see if we needed anything. Water never refilled.
My dish (a filet over a polenta cake) was ordered medium and came out well done. The polenta cake was hard and tasteless. Desert (pumpkin spiced cheesecake) had no flavor.
Very sad for $150 pp with wine.
I’ve been to Johannes before and have had amazing meals! Thanksgiving was a little bit of different experience! They put our party in the middle of server alley, not in a dining room but at least I wasn’t seated next to the bucket collecting rain from the ceiling! It was a nice prix fixe menu at $79 a head, it should have been a nice experience- the wait staff was very attentive, however there was no mention of gratuity being added, our server didn’t let us know it was included in the bill. Thanks goodness one of us checked it over before we included gratuity and the “added gratuity”. It’s possible that they included it for all the tables but I’ve never heard of including gratuity on a party of 5- but let us know “hey, gratuity has been added!!” I feel like using open table to make the reservation might not have been the best way for a Thanksgiving reservation, I should have called and let them know we wanted to be in the normal dinning room like every other time- One of our steaks was over done, which was disappointing. The first course was wonderful, dessert was wonderful, but some of the mains were off a little- over all I would come back but not for a holiday meal-
Party two, for the Thanksgiving dinner. The owner welcomed us upon arrival and we did not have to wait to be seated. Overall the food was good with many options for this special menu. However the three-course menu really was overpriced compared to the food we were served. And in addition, we were really puzzled by the fact that we were served $18 glasses of wine each without having the possibility to check the bottle it came from, nor have the possibility to try the wine before it was poured in a full glass. It came in small pitchers, so it could have been the $5 house wine that we were paying for... For a bill of $250 (tip included) for two, you would expect Michelin star kind of food and at least basic wine serving skills. Again, the food wasn't bad, just not up to the bill.
Great restaurant, but no option available at point of booking reservation that allows for seating.
Well advanced time of making reservation, YET, was seated in back room.
Excellent as always!!!
The food was outstanding, and it was a very busy night. All in all a great dining experience.
White sauce with capers was watery and bland asked for more cause what was given not enough charged 5 dollars fries were not well done like I asked and poor quality seemed like fast food frozen fries
Everything was delicious, and think everyone in our party enjoyed it.
I was sad that your delicious mussels were not available! Love them!
The duck was good, but did not meet our expectations.
The cranberries, lemon juice, and arugala helped make the Mama Schnitzel a true treat.
The noise level was far too high.
Great service as always and the food is amazing!
The Wiener schnitzel was outstanding - 5 stars. The special duck confit was way overcooked - would NOT recommend it.
Service was fine, but we miss Barry, our long time waitress who was out due to illness. We wish Barry a speedy recovery!
Not all strip malls are created equally, and the one hosting Johannes is almost like a disguise for this remarkably consistent restaurant with a Continental flair. In addition to amazing versions of crispy duck, rack of lamb and many other Continental favorites, including a long list of authentic wiener schnitzels on the back of the menu (they speak to the Austrian heritage of the chef). One of the very best restaurants in Southern California, and a no fail option for company!
Food was excellent & inspired - my husband had the lamb which was So Good- the schnitzel is their specialty but trust the waiter for recommendations !
Johannes is always fantastic. Great chef's, staff and overall experience consistently. Best schnitzel ever!
Always a treat for special occasions and for a yummy night out.
Very very tasty dining experience. We don’t get out to Palm Springs often but that will now change. Johannes is a great find... we’ll be back!
Great schnitzel. Also really enjoyed the greens salad with bacon-yummy
Waited for many minutes at Front Desk before anyone greeted us, so not the best first impression. Service was personable, waiter knew the specials well, but overall crew was less polished than expected. Loved the comfort of the dining chairs. Highlight of the evening was the Pear-tini cocktail. I didn’t make the best food choices from the menu as the food was average to me. Ordered specials appetizer and entree; maybe should have stuck with the regular menu. Husband enjoyed both his courses. Split a Dessert Trio, that was fine. Place filled quickly after our fairly early arrival and was bustling when we left.
Great restaurant! The Wiener schnitzel was superb and almost equaled my Austrian great aunt’s version.
This restaurant is fantastic!
If you love European food, you must try Johannus. Wiener schnitzel, available in several different guises, is outstanding. Also try the Mai Tai - you will not be disappointed.
Despite the noisy celebrations of Gay Pride weekend, the room was quiet, the service friendly and the Wienerschnitzl outstanding. This is a regular stop when we visit the desert.
Good service and food. All diners in our room where quite upset at the loud behavior from one table. One man in particular might have a hearing problem. But no one on the staff took the time to ask him to stop yelling. When that group left, the remaining tables looked at each other and began to smile.
The staff should be trained better.
Excellent food. Waitress was very busy, but did a good job being attentive.
After all these years Johannes continues to be one of the top restaurants in Palm Springs. I travel to Vienna several times a year and the schnitzel at Johannes is just as good as what you can eat there. Our only complaint, how can an Austrian restaurant only offer 2 choices of Austrian red wine? Come on!
The service and ambiance are impeccable. I love the art work aswell
Spitzenklasse!! Top notch
George and our waitperson were wonderful and very accommodating. The food as always was magnificent. One of our favorites.
Birthday dinner was fantastic and delicious
Lovely dining establishment. Celebrated my 60th birthday. Food was very good. BeverGes were somewhat overpriced.
Brilliant mussels, great veal cordon bleu, perfect service! Thank you!
