My husband’s birthday
As always, loved the food and the server was great.
We did get put in the "back" room, which has no windows and no real ambiance, and I expressed we would prefer to sit in the main dining area, but the man that seated us said we would have had to make a reservation at least 2 weeks ahead to do that, which I know is not the case.
I also specified in my reservation that it was to celebrate an anniversary and a birthday, and they must not have read that as nothing special was done or mentioned.
Lastly, the seating is very uncomfortable, especially for long periods of time.
I'm normally thrilled to eat here as the food is really amazing, but the attitude was a bit odd, and not appreciated.
We found the menu items varied and interesting. The entre portions were generous. Both starters were good (smoked Trout and Bavarian meatballs). The desert sampler was not good. Runny Creame Brule with 1/8 brittle crust, Chocolate Mouse with Cinnamon not sweet and a Tiramisu that was jelly like. Prices are higher than other Palm Spring restaurants for similar food. The service was about twice as slow as any other restaurant I have been to in Palm Springs. Don't be in a hurry as you will have plenty of time to let your food settle before the next course arrives. The staff were friendly. The wine list had a large selection.
Excellent service and delicious food!!!
The food is Delicious from start to finish. One of the best restaurants in Palm Springs!
Wonderful as always best place in town hands down.
Lovely even though we’d just got off a long haul flight from London and driven from LAX
Don't let its location in what looks like a little strip mall dissuade you! Johannes provides some of the best dining in the desert. Nothing is better and very few places are anywhere near as good. We love the main menu, but it's also broken up with a terrific selection of specials and a whole list of classic Weiner Schnitzels (the chef is Austrian). The wine list isn't expensive, and an emphasis has been placed on what drinks well with dinner. We have eaten here at least a hundred times in the last ten years and Johannes and have never had anything less than a terrific meal and tremendously good service.
The spetzel appy is amazing. The schnitzel (had the Jager) is so good but it’s a huge portion so be prepared to come with an appetite. The other person with me had the scallops and it was really good! A little pricey for 3 large sea scallops though, should have been 4 for the price. The service was excellent! Will definitely go back to try other items on the menu.
I've been eating at Johannes for many years, and consider it one of my favorite restaurants, not just in Palm Springs, but anywhere! From ambience, to service, to food, I have nothing but praise. While tourism is often key to success in a locale like PS, Johanne's appears to thrive by catering to the locals. Not so say tourists are not welcome, but just a sign of how good they are that the local population seems so supportive. You can't go wrong here.
Our server Barry was wonderful! The wiener schnitzel and cheese spaetzelen were the best!!
Johannes is dependable: always good food, always good service, always a nice welcome from George. Ordinarily I would check that it's "good for quiet conversation, but not this last time: they were busy, we were seated at the back close to the kitchen, and apparently the kitchen staff were signalling either their energy or their unhappiness by making the loudest din I have ever heard in a white-tablecloth restaurant.
Great service that isn’t overwhelming but attentive. Food is top rated...
We have been numerous times and are big fans. The other night seemed a bit "off". Firstly we sat in the back room which has zero atmosphere and is especially noisy. I had requested quiet and was told the back room was quieter-Not So.
The service which we usually find very good was a step down from usual. I cant blame the waitress she took care of the entire room by herself. drinks came after the Appetizer and everything was generally much slower than usual. Maybe johannes should be there in the evening and leave the Lunch to others.
The best food in Palm Springs, hands down, consistently.
I’ve had Wiener schnitzel in Vienna, Austria, and this is equal or better! It’s like how my Austrian grandmother used to make. Amazing food, amazing place.
They forgot about us. The salmon portions were very tiny was more like an appetizer. Our water glass were filled one time . We asked was this normal she said they were training a new cook.
Amazing food, service was a bit off but I’ll definitely go back!
All in all it was s very good dining experience, don’t understand why the servers seemed so tight with the bread
Johannes has been our favorite for special occasions for many years. Consistent highest quality dining, especially their signature Wiener Schnitzel. Creative, tasty starters; friendly, respectful and competent service, and a great martini menu all make this a must for dining pleasure in Palm Springs.
Great evening for the five of us. It was Easter evening
Always great food. Special occasion or not. Food service and quick
My husband and I enjoyed the delicious schnitzel, friendly waitress, good menu & wine suggestions and warm greetings coming and going. A very nice meal on the spur of the moment. We will return again.
We never miss Johannes when we come to Palm Springs. It’s a must for us every year. We’re always delighted to see Berry an amazing waitress.
Birthday, and baby on the way announcement!
Really great food, authentic and service is excellent!
Johannes is one our favorite restaurants in the Palm Springs area. The menu is outstanding. My favorite is the Schnitzel, one of their specialities.
Our server was excellent - informative and attentive. We all enjoyed our meals but highly recommend sharing since the dinner entree portions are quite large.
Both my salad (salmon and beets)and my dinner (Ahi tuna)were particularly outstanding. This was one of the best meals I’ve had in Palm Springs in six years
Service and food always fantastic. They were wonderful in accommodating us vegans too!
Eclectic menu (Viennese, American, Asian), well-prepared and delicious. Leisurely, but friendly service. Will definitely return .
We have been going there ever since it opened.
Wonderful place, great server (Berrie)and super food.
Great dinner as usual. Got to introduce three new people to the Restaurant.
Finally made it to try this restaurant and sorry we didn't get there sooner on one of our Palm Springs trips -probably one of the best meals ever in the whole valley area and great service !
Outstanding menu and service. My favorite restaurant in Palm Springs
Consistent delicious food and always a pleasure to eat here whenever I’m in town.
That back room is blah, would have been nice to sit elsewhere.
Everything was fabulous!
Always a pleasure dining at Johannes beginning with a warm welcome from George and continuing with Stephanie’s excellent, friendly service.
