Outstanding menu and service. My favorite restaurant in Palm Springs
Consistent delicious food and always a pleasure to eat here whenever I’m in town.
That back room is blah, would have been nice to sit elsewhere.
Everything was fabulous!
Always a pleasure dining at Johannes beginning with a warm welcome from George and continuing with Stephanie’s excellent, friendly service.
Been coming here for many years.
always excellent and very good food.
Love Barrie to serve us.
Very good atmosphere... great food!...service was exceptional...
Food, wines and service are excellent! Their Wiener schnitzel is the best in town.
Food was great as well as the service
This place deserved its high rating. Food and service are excellent. Notice the sound absorbing ceiling panels? And prices might seem high but not for what you get, portion and quality wise. Overall a great dining experience.
We like Johannes. We have dined there on several occasions and have always been satisfied with the food, the service and the ambiance. This visit was no exception with the following qualifications. We were seated immediately and our smiling server was helpful in describing the specials. We ordered their schnitzel specials and a couple of glasses of wine. Our entrees arrived quickly, almost too quickly. The schnitzels were delicious and portions more than substantial. There was one interesting factor: the online wine list included several inexpensive and interesting options which were not on the restaurant menu. We think that the online menu of wine options is outdated and does not reflect the restaurant wine list. Several moderately priced wines online were wising from the restaurant menu. This issue needs to be addressed.
Great Food, their specialty Weiner Schnitzel was excellent, the endive-endive salad interesting and tasty. Great Martinis, we enjoyed our evening out very much.
Food was outstanding. A minor glitch was addressed seamlessly—very professional. Endive salad was amazing, mushroom soup excellent, wienerschnizel was perfect. The sauces on both our entrees were a revelation.
The service was exceptional; perfect blend of customer care / attention. Our waitress was invisible until appropriate, and then she saw to our needs instantly and with supreme poise. Perfect.
The only negative issue was sound—we are 55+ years, and background noise makes conversation challenging. The dining room was nicely appointed, but quite loud—it probably would not bother younger patrons. And, it might have been quieter had we not been seated at a center table.
One of the crappiest, most slapdash meals I've had in years. The food is heavy, bland, and very really sloppily cooked. Presentation is indifferent at best. Cocktails were gooey, warm, and terrible. Service slapdash. The pricing demands a pretty decent meal--what you get instead is completely subpar. This used to be a pretty good restaurant--something has taken them very, very far downhill.
Perfect as always!
Had out of town guests!
Friends from out of town! Great night tha ks
Friendly, professional service. Great food. Can never pass up the schnitzel but there are lots of other tempting dishes on the menu. Great wine list - lots of wonderful gruner veltliners. Took server’s advice and enjoyed a very nice one.
Very nice - busy but not rushed. Very large wine list.
We have enjoyed Johnannes excellent cuisine for many years and this meal continued our sincere appreciation. The only “problem” ( and its not too problematic is that the portions are Huge- We hape to rturn several more times.
When it comes to weinersnitzel, Johannes never disappoints. My wife and I both ordered and enjoyed it. The wild mushroom soup (pureed, not whole mushrooms) that I had was good, as usual: and, the mixed green salads that we had were unusual in taste and texture --- which we found delightful. If I had any complaints about Johannes, they would be that, if you are seated in the room with the bar --- as we were --- there is no ambiance. Also, the serving sizes of the entrée accompaniments (fingerling potatoes and cucumbers, in this case) are pretty small --- in contrast to the prices, which are on the high side. But, when the craving for weinersnitzel strikes, this place is hard to beat.
back room sucks. but there is no other place to have decadent wienerschnitzel !!
We had a lovely dinner here- the Tuna was especially amazing, but we liked our chicken curries and the duck quite a bit as well. The salads were fresh, and a really nice portion ( Portions here were large in every food category). The sampler desert and the raspberry sorbet were really great- and my husband really loved the apple strudel. Nice noise control- Our waitress was very good but had too many tables to handle all of the room efficiently. But we did like her. All and all, a top notch place to eat and meet friends. Thank goodness this restaurant makes it easy to hear who you are dining with!
Food and service were fantastic. The lamb and salmon were highest and fresh quality. We had a table right at the kitchen pick up so was very loud and hard on conversation. No ones fault just a poorly located table. Experience was generally very good!
Disappointed. Moved here and looking for good dining experiences and this was not it.
First, it was our anniversary, special night, restaurant knew it and said or did nothing.
I was Looking for a special evening. Had reservation for about a month and they put us in the back room. Quiet but claustrophobic and boring.
Expensive restaurants should have great service. Service was fine but causal and not at these prices.
Food was good but not great. Schnitzel was very good but expensive and we have had better. Fish entree was good but lacking anything special. Off night, maybe but this level of restaurant should be in the mark all the time.
I had high hopes and heard good things about this restaurant. Well it did not live up to the hype.
To the restaurant, if you are having a special occasion, treat it special and make more of an effort. For me this is where I live but will probably not be back. Too bad.
I was with a table of four. We had ahi tuna, scallops and 2 of us had the branzino special. All three dishes were extremely fresh and had unique wonderful flavors. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. It was truly a memorable dinner and we all want to go back to Johannes when we visit Palm Springs again.
Love Johannes. I think the food makes it one of the best restaurants in Palm Springs and the servers are wonderful too, My group unfortunately got stuck next to the kitchen despite our request for the front room. My complaint is if the Resturant is not able to accommodate my request, then call me and tell me so I can make a decision to go there or somewhere else.
A must for fine dining in Palm Springs! Excellent wiener schnitzel! Also the scallops will melt in your mouth!
We really enjoyed this place. Service was outstanding. Good variety on menu
Delish! Would go back
Entertaining my brother and wife from Olympia Wa.
My wife and I enjoyed our meal at Johanne's. I particularly liked my entree, veal medallions in a mushroom sauce with cheesy spatzle. The seafood appetizer was also over-the-top delicious. The service was very good. We went on Valentine's Day, when the only offering was a 3-course prix fixe menu. There were plenty of options for each course, which was good, but the cost was pretty high, which brings down the value score. The regular menu is also pretty expensive, but you can manage the cost more easily. I would go back, but probably not on Valentine's Day.
Johannes is one of our favorite restaurants in the Coachella Valley. It is good in every important way, and it is dependable. I marked "value" down a bit for this review because the "special" pricing for the prix fixe Valentine's Day menu--the only menu available on that day--was a bit high for what was basically a shortened version of their regular menu plus some specials. But demand is high for that holiday, so it figures.
Average food, nice place but on the expensive side for what it was. Was there of Valentine's which required an 18% service charge for some reason. Overall a decent experience but there are much better in Palm Springs for less.
great food. Of course we had the schnizels. good portion. tasty. we sat in a corner surrounded by signs which remind travelers of Prague. highly recommend.
great place. good food. service seemed a bit off.
Have been there a few times. Always have same excellent waitress and damn good food!
We love Johannes Restaurant
Always good. Love the food and the service is always good. A very well run restaurant. I go back again and again for the schnitzel, but my friend had the swordfish and it was exceptional. if I lived closer to Palm Springs, I would go more often.
