Went on the first night of the bar closures and restaurant reductions and was anxious on how it would be. They've taken all of the precautions necessary (more space between tables, accepting fewer reservations, etc). The food and service were outstanding. We're going through some rough times so I will continue to try and support them as much as I can.
A new find for us. Loved it. Fabulous food. We'll go back!
Good place. Good food. A group came in after us, obviously regulars, were treated so well. We wished we’d been treated like that. Staff maybe could use that as s benchmark.
One of our favorites!
Excellent food well served in a friendly matter.Good wine list.I had inadvertently entered only 2 instead of 4 guests but it was easily remedied. My favorite Valley restaurant.
We dined with guests from out of town. Table of five--everyone loved their meals.
Food arrives hot, and we all appreciate the use of noise baffling on the ceiling.
Much to my disappointment as a returning guest we were seated in the back dining room which has no ambiance. It was a 6:00 p.m. reservation which meant that a table in the main dining room could easily be turned over. I did not wish to make an issue of it before my partner but it is difficult to understand why we walked by a nearly empty main dining room to be seated in the back.
The server seemed rushed every time we interacted with her. The attention to the patron has gone down in the past year. Johannes used to have a European like atmosphere where the table was yours for the night if you wanted it. Server recited the special items in a rote manner and showed little or no enthusiasm for the Chef’s special offerings that night.
The noise level also has gotten deafening. Not a good place to have a conversation with your partner or your guests.
Fabulous food and service. I have very often eaten in this restaurant and never been disapointed.
Parking Was a nightmare due to the street fair. Don’t go on a Thursday night
A classic Palm Springs local restaurant. One specialty the Schnitzel is consistently great. Most everything else is good.
Johannes really is near the top of places to dine in Palm Springs. The food is always exceptional and the surroundings pleasant and relaxed. And the staff is impeccable. Highly recommended!
Wonderful place to dine. Service is excellent and everyone is friendly. The food is awesome and they have a great selection of wines, if you are not a wine expert, they will pair you with a nice wine. Prices are reasonable.
Service was excellent, food delicious!
Always a treat! Thank you!
Great food and drink. Lovely interior. Good service.
First time. We’ve talked about going for a number of year and finally did. Loved it for the most part. Service was a bit erratic, but the food and cleanliness were terrific. We will go back.
Excellent schnitzel (and I am Austrian by heritage!). Really interesting appetizers and salads. Lovely meal and solid wine list.
This was a lovely experience. I had the raw Brussels Sprouts salad and the Lemon Caper Chicken Schnitzel ... heaven! I am craving it now. One of the best meals I have had in the desert. I can’t wait to go back. For those that don’t drink - they also have a signature mocktail to help you feel special. I loved my meal here - and reservations were a breeze. The front desk was also very accommodating. Nice servers too. My only complaint was the bread and spread. Not a fan. Would have preferred a nice French bread with butter.
Service fair. Twice had to request items that were overlooked. Biggest issue was restaurant policy to not split the check. Found this out of the norm where most restaurants have no problem dividing up the check as a courtesy to their patrons.
My favourite place in Palm Springs
Fantastic chicken schnitzel!!!
Very good schnitzels (came close to those we had in Austria last fall). Attentive service. Check it out.
This is one of our favorite restaurants anywhere in the U.S. We love Palm Springs and very happy to have a home there. Regardless of the season, we dine at Johannes at least once per month whenever in Palm Springs for a stay. Understated setting. Dressy or casual works. First rate food & beverage options. Wonderful stable staff . The Wiener schnitzel with lemon caper sauce is our favorite but many other great dinner menu options plus inventive nightly specials from which to choose.
Remember food and service being better in the past. Curry dish has too much red chili flakes. Felt rushed at the end. Endive salad delicious. Will try again to see if this was an off night.
One thing about Johannes is the food is always stellar and the schnitzel is a must!
This has for many years been our favorite restaurant in Palm Springs. Food is always consistently good, service is impeccable, and we like the intimacy of a smaller place. Not very noisy, we could converse across the table without problems.
This is my favorite restaurant in Palm Springs! The food, staff, & atmosphere are all great!
Johannes is one of my favorite restaurants in Palm Springs and it will continue to be... but my experience on Valentine’s Day was not a good one. We were initially placed next to the noisy kitchen and an even louder large group until we asked to be moved into the main dining room. The service there was impersonal and felt rushed. The food was excellent but definitely not worth $100/person for the prix fixed. For $300 for two people (drinks and a restaurant added tip of 18%) I expected a lot better.
This was a Valentines bleed out. We have be coming to Johannes for over 12 years. Our Valentines Day dinner has ended this wonderful love affair. I made our reservation over a month in advance. It was a very disappointing evening. We were seated by ourselves in the area referred to as the kitchen runway. A hall of tables pushed against one wall directly in front of the kitchen. Very noisy and very busy.
The menu was a subset of their normal menu with a 50% price increase. With the pre-fixe dinner and one cocktail each it came to $300 for the two of us. It included absolutely nothing extra to commemorate the evening like a flower or a glass of champagne.
Matter of fact diners were not allotted any of the normal options such as their wiener schnitzel sauces nor an option for French fries. It seemed to be an unnecessary restriction as the place was not filled with diners.
It was such an unpleasant experience we left without have the included dessert. I don’t understand why restaurants have “special” menus for special occasions that include absolutely nothing special outside a 50% bump up in price for less than their everyday menu. Why does a restaurant have bad vs good seating areas? Just knock down that damn wall and open up the dining room and that would remedy the problem and create a better dining experience for everyone.
We have enjoyed Johannes over the years. Their food is terrific. But I think we will only return off season and definitely not on a “special” occasion night.
Excellent food, friendly and knowledgeable service, one of Palm Springs best restaurants
We have eaten at Johannes many times before and always had a wonderful experience. This time, the food was good, but the experience was marred by the painfully slow service. A request for water went unheeded. The lags between a greeting and ordering, drink and food serving was so slow we had to flag down a server to see if the food would ever come. Unfortunately, the service ruined the experience.
It was wonderful! The food is excellent
The food was delicious as always! Our server was fair however, the bus boys were wonderful. We sat in the back room which was extremely cold. All in all, I'd come back again!
