Joey Gerard's - A Bartolotta Supper Club - Greendale Ratings and Reviews
Tried for the first time for a birthday celebration. Could not believe they had raw beef and onions for an appetizer. It was great!!! They grind their own beef-it was like silk. The onions were awesome, no lingering after taste. I would come back again just for that. The prime rib and salmon dinners were delicious. Even the sides were outstanding. Can't wait to return to try the rib-eye.
We decided to start the holiday season off with an evening of Dickens in the Greendale village and dinner at Joey Gerard's. Our party of 5 all had the Fish Fry, needless to say we disappointed all around. For $17.95 our expectations were high. The dinners arrived lukewarm. Nothing special, one of our party stated "you get a better fish fry at St. Al's ". The only positive was that our waitress, Katie, was great! Very positive and knowledgeable about the menu.
Sirloin steak and filet special were flavorful, but were chewy, not tender, and had a surprising amount of fat and gristle. Cauliflower and spinach were tasty, but nothing exceptional. Only allowed one roll per guest? Rolls were still connected to each other and not even warmed up. Pecan/apple pie for dessert was an interesting combination, but it was very cold and difficult to cut the pecan lid; should have been served with a steak knife. Prices were exceedingly high for the average or less-than-average quality of the food. Drink prices were also ridiculously high. In Greendale, seriously? This would not have been my restaurant of choice for this occasion, nor will it be for future dinners out. Very disappointing. There are far too many good restaurants in the Milwaukee area to waste time, money, or calories on Joey Gerard's. Again, very disappointing. On the bright side, our server (Matthew) was quite pleasant and accomodating. However, for a Friday evening, there were remarkably few tables filled. An empty restaurant at dinner time on a Friday does not indicate a high-quality establishment.
Another wonderful experience at Joey Gerard's. Two filets and one bone-in ribeye made our mouths water and our stomachs happy. Great sides as we all ordered something different and sampled a bit from each other. Superb service from Jody on a busy Saturday evening.
We were celebrating a birthday and the food/service didn't disappoint. Everyone enjoyed their entrees (mainly ribs and marsala chicken and one prime rib). The only down side is that it is noisy with so many tables/customers, and they play the music very loud (although the music is nice; old classics from 40's and 50's). With a larger group, it was hard to hear each other, so conversation was difficult.
We thought that with this being a nicer place and a supper club, it would be quieter than most places these days. But that was not the case and it made for a less-than-pleasant experience. I mean, the reason people go out to dinner is to converse with each other. I think the more upscale restaurants should pay attention to this aspect of their restaurant's ambiance.
Our server, Matthew, was phenomenal! He explained the menu very well and was attentive to us during our dining experience. My father was very impressed with the ambiance and enjoyed his food as well. It was my father's first visit, and he left very pleased.
The service was amazing. I went for my one year anniversary and they sat us right away. We had the chef’s special and it was worth every penny. The NY steak was absolutely amazing and delicious. The service was superb as well. We received a free dessert which was beautiful. We will be coming back.
The Friday night ambiance was very nice. We took a good neighbor of ours out for a fish fry. The waitress was fantastic - just perfect! She was cheerful, attentive, and timely, yet not an interruption. The battered fish was very good - we all asked for an additional tartar sauce. My potato pancakes were rather disappointing - barely warm and flavorless, dry and blah. The French fries were rather dead as well. The coleslaw was very good. The relish tray was super and the rolls were nice and warm and tasty.
I love the décor and the ladies' restroom is beautiful - I'm so glad you kept the mosaic tile - it's a work of art.
The manager was circulating and that was a nice touch - everybody into their jobs.
We have been there several times and the food has been somewhat good, but I can't rave about it to my friends.
Of course this is not Eric Johnsen, this is his wife, Kim. I am used to evaluating - I'm a teacher.
Overall - very nice.
Everything was good except the ribeye was not good at all. Very tough. I’m a ribeye guy and it’s hard for me to recommend that steak at this place. The others in my group had filets and they loved them. Baked potato was great. Wine selection was decent by the reds were mostly too young. Overall there are better places in Milwaukee but for the southwest side of the county this is about as good as it gets. Well except for the other steak joint supper club a mile away.
Ordered a ribeye & was told how great the "jasper"oven would put char marks on it - was very dissappointed - got a grey on the outside steak, so my steak tasted pretty much like roast beef ( maybe should have cranked up the heat on the old "jasper" some more) Our friends ordered medium & medium well prime rib & both came done medium rare. Best part of meal was the escargot & the grasshoppers - would go for those again & the nice ambiance.
It was truly a "supper club" experience. The food was mouthfully orgasmic. A delicious treat well worth the price. Even with my lady overhyping the adventure, it still was far superior to my expectations. I had the Imperial Wagyu flat iron steak (top) and my lady had the top sirloin (bottom). Every side dish was a perfect compliment and no matter what sauce you get will pair well with it any dish. Our waiter, Matthew, was phenomenal with his food recommendations as well as drink pairings. He even acquiested my request to know where they got their Wagyu from as well as their vegetables. He was super friendly, checked on the table at the right moments, and even hooked me up with their member card. It was truly a perfect date night experience and really fits their title as a classic speak easy supper club. Not too fancy but not to casual.
We ordered a bottle of Pacific Rim Riesling and they were out. The manager came to our table and offered us a different bottle option. His suggestion was spot on to what we were looking for. Excellent recommendation.
The 45 day dry aged Kansas Strip my boyfriend got was amazing. (He was kind enough to share). My 12oz sirloin was amazing per usual.
Our server Kat, offered us an amazing recommendation for the Pal Joey for an after dinner drink. It was the perfect way to end our date night.
We will definitely be returning. Keep up the great work.
Unfortunately it was the worst meal I have ever had at a Bartolotta restaurant.
My reservation was made via Open Table. I asked for a quiet table. We were seated next to a group of 20 people. We literally had to yell at our table to converse. We were seated in the dining room with the lower ceiling, didn't help matters.
Food was not up to par for a Bartolotta restaurant. We both order a filet. Mine was supposed to medium. It was served rarer then medium rare. The second was well done. Not hard to do that, except you need to take it off the grill when its done to keep it from being too dry. They didn't.
Vegetables were not good. Asparagus and zucchini were both hard, under cooked.
Our waiter was not very attentive. On one of his visits he smelled as if he just got done having a cigarette. I guess we were cutting into his smoking time.
I have eaten many times at Bartolotta restaurants. I have eaten many times at this restaurant.
I take business customers there. I have a rewards card. This was absolutely my worst experience at any Bartolotta facility....period.
This was supposed to be a special night. Afterward we went to a Culver's for custard as we figured we would be disappointed by dessert at JG's as well. I take no joy in saying that Culver's was the highlight of the night.
We were at Joey Gerards to celebrate our anniversary and had a wonderful dinner. We had tickets to see China Lights at the Boerner Botanical Garden beforehand, but all the parking lots were full, so we went directly to the restaurant. Although we arrived an hour early for our reservation, we were seated immediately. There were about 40 people at six other tables in the main dining room on a Wednesday evening and we were seated at the best table in the room. Our server, Jody, did a great job of making us feel special. We had the lamb chops and veal marsala, both of which were superb. Jody brought us a special strawberry Schaumtorte for dessert. This was our first time at Joey Gerards and actually, our first time in downtown Greendale. Joey Gerards is now one of our special memories and we will be going back.
A great Wisconsin supper club. Even includes a relish tray. We were a group of 7 and everyone loved what they ordered from prime rib to fish. Our waitress was fabulous; helpful but not intrusive in our conversation. And had to top it all off with ice cream drinks!
