During the daytime, Valet Parking is available in the back lot on Electric Ave(parallel to Abbot Kinney). Parking is $2 and we validate up to 2 hours. In the evening, Valet Parking courtesy of Continental Parking is available curbside, in front of the restaurant on Abbot Kinney. The cost is $7. Rates are subject to change.

My wife and I were saddened to see that Joe's, formerly one of the most consistent, high quality and civilized places in town has deteriorated pretty significantly since we were last there about a year and a half ago. We have been dozens of times over the past many years for dinner, brunch, as a couple, with family and with larger groups. And, it has always been reliably good with pretty professional service. I understand that it was the night before Valentine's Day--we thought that by booking the night before we might escape the mediocrity that many restaurants resort to for the large crowds--but we had to endure the limited and mass produced prix-fixe menu as our only option. It was just okay. The biggest surprise was the off-hand and disinterested service, though. That used to be one of the best qualities of the restaurant but our server, who was getting married in just a few weeks, was clearly far more tuned into her wedding than working that night. I don't know that we will be back.
I was privileged to enjoy the Valentine's Day pre-fixe menu at Joe's second to last dinner serving. The food was fresh, delicious and composed of high quality ingredients. Their custom cocktail of the evening - My Bloody Valentine - was both topical and tasty.
Service was a bit inattentive and odd, but it was also the day before they were closing, so the staff gets a pass.
Joe was taking laps around the restaurant making sure everyone was enjoying their meals.
I'll miss Joe's, but I'm glad I got there before it was too late.
It's ironic that this review is about the penultimate night at Joe's. Joe Miller, a chef who introduced the kind of imaginative cooking using fresh ingredients other chefs have been copying for 24 years, has closed Joe's. First, dinner was a procession of flavors and cooking that my Dad, also a cook, would have pronounced "soigne" which means subtle and delicious. I had cauliflower bisque with rock shrimp, grilled tuna on rosti with foie gras and a porterhouse with the sweetest small onions and crispy artichokes, and mashed potatoes. I am still thinking about the dessert flyte, passionfruit meringue, moscarpone cheesecake and the coup de gras a chocolate ganache square with crunchified walnuts. Joe's has been a bastion of cuisine that grows in variety and technical accomplishment. I will never forget seeing Joe ladle liquid in a china cap that night, this is a hands-on restaurant with a chef who always did the work. Joe never dialed in his cooking, he did it with his crew. I could wish for you all who love accomplished cooking to "Eat At Joe's" but no, Venice is in a current spiral downhill where best beloved, POPULAR, well-patronized local restaurants are being leveled by greed of speculators. I could wish for you to know just how your appreciation of tastes and flavors could be boosted by Joe's ever changing, season-oriented (and well seasoned) menu. I could wish for you to have a happy brunch with breads that you enjoy eating for flavor, savory and sweet selections of egg and pancakes. I could wish for you to know what it's like when you have a reservation and remember during the days before "We're going to Joe's this week *_*" Joe's, high quality ingredients and technique for good value. Joe's, combinations of greens and mushrooms, scallops and polenta, Christmas Eve dinners that celebrated Winter cooking, Joe's a place where the cooks and crew went out and brought your dog treats and water while you were inside for brunch, Come back Joe, please!
A pioneer of California Cuisine and a mainstay of Abbot Kinney long before the street and the surrounding neighborhood became what they are today. While the street is much more vibrant than it was when I started dining at Joe's, Chef Joe Miller and his restaurant will be sorely missed.
My family and I had the opportunity to visit Joe's just before they closed down. The place was packed; there was still a lot of energy and it was really nice to see all of the staff throughly engaged. Our food was executed perfectly. We also enjoyed the bottomless mimosas. Cheers to Joe Miller!
They were "backed up" so we actually didn't get seated until 30 minutes after our reservation which was ok but I rushed to get there on time, so that was a bit of a bummer but they're closing so I had to let that go. My dining companion thought it was a clever upsale to tell us the kitchen was backed up and she recommended getting an appetizer-- turned out to be $15 for a beet salad. Which was amazing! But I could have eaten the Free bread and been ok. Other than that, everything was excellent! Gonna miss that place.
I was here about a year ago with three friends from NY. The service was so slow, I was so embarrassed and kept telling my friends how sorry I was. I decided that I would not come back again., I mean who has that kind of time? However, with the restaurant closing, I decided to give it another try. This time it was worst than the time before. It took 30 minutes to get my bottle of wine and I arrived at the restaurant at 6 PM when they opened so there was no excuse for how long it took. I also had to keep asking for someone to pour my wine once we did get the bottle. Also, we ordered the Chef Menu and when they brought us our desert they failed to mention that hey did not have what we ordered and brought us what they had in stock. Not cool. If they were to remain open, I would never dine there again.
We are so sad that Joe's is closing. It has been a favorite for us since its opening. We loved it especially for brunch and lunch on the patio. So we decided to go with friends for a last visit before its February 14th closing.
The patio was lovely as always. Our salmon benedicts were perfect. Eggs poached just right, delicious salmon. However our friends fish tacos were not good at all. Because they are allergic to t shellfish, they asked if they could have salmon instead of shrimp. This seemed to be a problem for the server but reluctantly she made inquiry of the kitchen and they had the salmon tacos. But the tacos themselves were merely a tiny piece of salmon and some coleslaw on a tortilla, no sauce, nothing else. They were quite disappointed.
So our last trip to Joe's was not as special as our first but we will remember Joe's as it was when we first became its patrons.
My friends and I are heartsick because Joe's is closing. For 24 years we've had almost every family and friends' celebration at Joe's -- not to mention any other time we wanted a superb meal at an affordable price. I hope Joe will be back soon with another fabulous restaurant... Thanks for all the wonderful memories, Joe!
We had an excellent meal on our first visit. Interesting menu with diverse choices even for non-meat-eaters; good and reasonably priced wine list; the food was well prepared and presented. We were there on a crowded night and the maître d did a very good job keeping everyone informed about the wait, although the bar area did get a bit cramped. The one off note was the service. Our waiter initially forgot us for a long stretch after we were seated. Then, right after we finished our appetizers, he came around and asked cheerfully whether we had saved room for dessert, only to be surprised when we told him that we were waiting for our main courses. He then disappeared again and when he returned after we had finished our main courses, he was again surprised when told that our sides had not arrived, and then confirmed after checking his notes that he had omitted to put that order in. There was no apology or any effort to make amends. So the service was inattentive, perfunctory, and sloppy.
Our son recommended Joe's to us and he was very disappointed when his flight from San Jose was so delayed he was unable to join us! Being from out of town, we were delighted to try it and really enjoyed our meal! Wonderful service, interesting (delicious) preparations, very pleasant atmosphere.
I had to make a last minute change from 4 to 5 guests. They easily handled the change and gave us a very good table. Service is always excellent, as is the food. Had a nice drink and chat with the bartender while I waited for my guests. Very friendly when you walk in the door.
As Abbott Kinney Blvd grows, morphs and gentrifies, Joe's remains the one great constant. This 25-year-old local treasure effortlessly blends a warm, welcoming, unpretentious ambience with innovative and no-kidding-amazing fine-dining locally-sourced farm-to-table cuisine. The menu changes at chef/owner Joe Miller's whim, so it'd be stupid to point out specific dishes since he'd likely have moved on by the time you walk through the door. (Generally, the food is seafood-and pasta-centric.) Just know that once you DO walk through the door, you'll be spending a few hours in the very capable hands of Joe and his staff.

After being seated waited at least 20 minutes before anyone came to table. I asked if an ingredient could be left out of my meal and waitress said yes. After waiting about 50 minutes we had not gotten food and the waitress came to say my meal could not be prepared as I had ordered so would have to choose another meal. We were all starving by then. Someone from our table asked to speak with manager but he never came to our table. When my friend walked to front to talk to him he basically showed her to the front door - did not want to hear complaints. Waitress said meal would be taken care of. Not only did the manager finally come over to bring us the check but still had the original meal I had ordered on it. He had a terrible attitude and really did not want to hear any complaints. We will not be going back!
At any other restaurant the manager is always happy to please customers but not the guy in the green suit!
So my partner and I went to Joe's for a NYE dinner on a whim. We wanted to go out at the last minute and made a reservation 2 days before. I chose Joe's since it had a 4.5 rating out of 5 after 2000+ reviews.
The food was really good, but the thing that made the evening so memorable was our server, Dana. She was friendly, conversational and all around amazing. It made the evening perfect.
We used to LOVE Joe's, something has happened. We have gone to Joe's for brunch, lunch and dinner as well as spending 4 Christmas Eve's there. This past holiday was quite a let-down. Our server was relatively new and we can only guess poorly trained, she couldn't explain the food preparation, she forgot what our entree's were (there were on 2 of us) she never checked on how we were enjoying/or not the food and while she opened the bottle of wine, neither she or anyone else EVER poured it for us. You're at a nice place one that you tell all your friends about and take out-of-towners to, and now you have to pour your own wine? Which also speaks to never being asked if we would like another glass of champagne....you would think that would be a very easy way to add a few dollars to the check, but no one bothered to ask. The lighting was much brighter than usual and for some reason they could not turn down the spot light shining in our eyes. We were never offered more than one piece of their home baked bread even though they had 3 varieties and we have always found it really good. The dessert selections were not up to their usual standards and the creme brulee was not worth eating. The Lobster special (surcharge added) was nice, but not great and the beef special was not very flavorful, fatty and kind of tough, this was definitely NOT the special Christmas Eve dinner or typical of any dinner we have had at Joe's, very sad because we love Joe and the service used to be fabulous, at least the busboy's are all the same, they were as wonderful as always.
Hubby and I came here for Christmas dinner and it was only ok. We got served up a fixed menu at $75/person which was fine but equally annoying because they never put it up on their website (and because of this led us to believe maybe we'd be lucky enough to chose from the menu we DID get to read online). We got jammed into a dinky little corner table that was extremely close to next 4-person table and the way the larger tables are angled into the smaller tables there's always someone voice at another table that's directed right into your ears. We had to ask not to be put at any of the annoying tables they seat people at directly when you walk in even though I had noted this in my reservation and there weren't any people sitting at the better 2-person tables in the main dining room (where we got wedged in the corner).
The food was only ok! I mean it wasn't bad but it wasn't TO DIE FOR! if ya know what I mean. Some of the salad/app courses ended up being too similar to some of the entrees which made it even less impressive. Our server was nice but very busy. The wait staff was extremely attentive so that was nice. The chef popped in to see how we were doing and I guess that was nice until he found more "local" people at a different table to talk to. No points taken off for that.
All in all, we've been here before. Been sat at all of the dinky uncomfortable tables. And the food has only been ok. Great ambience for a group. I would totally come here for a group meal. Still like the Tasting Kitchen better.
We had a severe dietary issue for one of our guests and the restaurant made every effort to accommodate. Even the chef came out to be apprised and to make helpful suggestions. The corkage (we brought wine) was reasonable for a fine restaurant, and, since it was my wife's 75th birthday, the charge was waived. The waitress was upbeat and personable. The cost was not excessive for a top establishment. That said, the service was very slow; bread was offered once by an (I guess) assistant and none was left on the table. The soup was excellent (butternut squash), but the entrée selections, while well prepared, were a bit ordinary. We came from the San Fernando valley and I'm not sure we would make the drive again. However, if we were in the vicinity, we might try it once more.
