Joe's American Bar & Grill - Framingham Ratings and Reviews
The service was good; our server was attentive without being intrusive. The food was good. My clam chowder was tasty but tepid. Three burgers ordered were undercooked compared to how they were ordered. The menu is limited in the sense that there are not pages and pages of options. But there are about a 1/2 dozen burgers to choose from, a handful of salads, a good selection of appetizers, etc. The price-to-value ratio is on the low side. Our meal, including tip, was about $25/person and that was with no appetizers (except 3 soups) and no alcohol.
Our waitress was pleasant and attentive.
The restaurant was quiet, with several tables filled at 6:30PM.
We shared a rack of ribs which contained very little meat on them and had little flavor.
The potato wedges were extremely dry.
The coleslaw was tasty.
Overall, the experience was not satisfying.
A group of 7 had a very nice time with no problems, our waitress was absolutely wonderful !
We do this every 3 months, up to 12 of us, It's getting more difficult for larger groups to make reservations which is why we removed Border Cafe (Burlington MA) from our list of restaurants because Border Cafe does not accept reservations and seemed hostile to our large group.
Joes has been better than this but after dining at a few locations over the past couple of years think that the downtown Boston location on Newbury Street is the only one I'd consider in the future. It was July 4th so the short staff may have to do with this poor visit. Service was slow, the chow so so. Only the burger was good... along with the fries. Also, very pricey on their house wines by the glass... their own label.
We enjoyed our visit to Joe's American Bar and Grille. It's not the first time we've been and we will definitely return. I had a turkey burger with the most delicious honey wheat bun and a cranberry mayo that was very tasty. Our server was very attentive, polite and gracious.
The food is always good at Joe's but compared to other spots with more consistent service the prices are high. I have no problem paying $30 for a steak if it's a good meal but really, a salad with that is extra? Also, the last couple of visits to this location the service has been spotty. Certainly not giving up on them, we've enjoyed Joe's, but if I'm going to pay over $80 for dinner for two all in, I expect a little more.
$100 is too much for one entree (Mac n cheese) and one appetizer (fish tacos) and a couple drinks. Only brought out one meal, which got cold while we waited for the second one. Also didn't apply the $15 off from the "welcome" email I booked the resi through. Disappointing since we used to dine here frequently.
The visit overall was fine, but the half rack of baby back ribs I got had very little meat on the bones, especially for the $15+ price. The potato wedges were great. Service was good. Best part of the meal was the skillet chocolate chip cookie with vanilla ice cream. I made the reservation with the note I was celebrating my 50th birthday but did not say anything upon arriving because I didn't want any big deal, maybe a free dessert or glass of wine. Nope. All good. It's an okay place for casual dining.
Our server, Connor, was friendly and attentive. All entrees came at the same time, hot and cooked as requested. Everyone's food was delicious.
Two negatives -- they were out of the Maine lobster roll and they did not allow enough time between soup/salad and entrees. Only 2 of 7 ordered soup/salad so this was a minor inconvenience.
The staff does a very good job of accommodating my daughter's gluten-free needs though the menu could, perhaps, do a better job of explaining what can and cannot be prepared gluten-free.
The overall dinning experience was great starting with the quality of food and the service provided by the wait staff. My only concern is the hostess at the front desk. She was not too accommodating and a but rude. We arrived earlier than our reservation and asked if we could be seated earlier than our time and she did not want to listen to us. There were few booths available that we could see from the front area.
She could have at least asked us to sit in the bar area and look to see if we could be accommodated.
Very poor service. It was Mother's Day. When we asked our waitress if we could get nachos with cheese on just one side (i have a child who is a vegan) we got an eye roll and an annoyed "no" for an answer. Waitress rarely stopped by and when our food came, some was missing and it took forever to get her attention. All of the mothers there were given a rose at the end of their meal. However, my wife received nothing. We've been here a number of times and always had a great time. Food was excellent as always, but, there are far too many options in town. I see no reason to go back anytime soon.
We had a Mother's Day reservation for a fairly large group, all arriving from different starting points. Never did we feel rushed, despite the fact that every table was occupied and people were waiting for a table. Joe's offered a brunch, standard and special Mother's Day menu. Everything as great!
We were seated immediately for our reservation. The restaurant was not crowded but our server was not quick or attentive. We ordered several burgers with fries and had to ask for ketchup, which she grabbed from the table next to us with the customers sitting at it.
My son ordered a soda but asked it to come with our meal and she brought it as we were ready for our check, which he did not want at that point and we had to ask it to be removed from our check.
My water was not refilled quickly and my son did not receive a water he asked for.
The server who brought our meals did not hand off the plate well to one of us and gave us a look that left him feeling blamed.
Overall, the value for the service we received was just not worth it.
I ordered a Side Car (lemon juice, cognac, and triple sec...not that hard to make and recipe is available on this amazing search engine called: Google).
The server said he'd never heard of it before. I said that I'd be more than happy to explain to the bar tender how it is made. Server assured me that the bartender would know how to make it or would look it up.
Drink didn't taste or look like a Side Car. Bill came and it turns out the bartender made me a Hennesy VS. Upon a quick glance at Google, I found out that Hennesy VS is cognac...the remaining 2/3 of the Side Car were missing.
Apparently the bartender 1) has no idea what a Side Car is and 2) no desire to expand upon his/her bartending skills by doing a quick Google search.
We won't be back as we prefer the Prohibition Era drinks that serve a means of as setting one bar apart from another.
I was disappointed that there was a small selection of items on the menu. They really did not have much fish. The meatloaf was recommended and it was ok. The atmosphere was very nice. Maybe if they change the menu and add some seasonal dishes we'd be interested in returning.
