Joe's American Bar and Grill - Boston Ratings and Reviews
Very loud and rushed service. Had to ask for everything: cream, sugar, syrup, ketchup, napkins, etc. Part of excellent service is anticipating your guest's needs. If a guest orders pancakes, syrup should be on the table by the time they arrive, or shortly thereafter. These are server 101 basics.
The food overall was great, they contained a wide array of dishes which was amiable to everyone in my party (8). My only complaints were that it was a little chilly from the A/C and that the waiter was horrific. He forgot dishes, the dude forgot plates for bread. like bruh
We picked Joe's mostly because it was close to First Church where we were going to attend a special benefit concert, which just happened to also fall on my birthday. It was a great combination of convenience, quality, fun and fast. Even though we were running behind, the restaurant was still able to seat a party of 6 on Friday night at 6:20 pm! Our waiter was great, the food came out in a very timely fashion, the meals were tasty and nicely presented. Overall a great deal for a hot spot on Newbury Street in Boston!
Steaks were excellent! Side dishes mediocre
Cocktails took forever. Server put in food order so quick we barely had received cocktails. Cocktail was a disappointment and not what I wanted to drink with steak! Couldnt place an order for wine while cocktail on table. Frustrating! Situation would not have occurred if waitress had been more attentive!
Dining room noise level good for conversation!
Joe's has a nice spot along Newbury Street. And, if you like people-watching, sure... have a beer and camp out for a while. We did sample the food as well and I specifically got the fish and chips. It was pretty good (Atlantic cod for $22). It was fresh and high-quality. If you are out to a Red Sox game, it's about a mile walk from Fenway, but the walk is pretty flat and easy.
The service was prompt and friendly, and if you want to watch sports, there's no shortage of TVs. Needless to say, we were from out-of-town, but if someone suggested we go to Joe's for a drink or dinner, I'd be more than happy to go back.
Went to Joe's three years ago (by myself on business) and was delighted and truly looking forward to bringing the better half with me on a leisure trip. That trip took us to Joe's on Monday evening. Had a beverage at the bar. Good. Active. Seated promptly when it was dinnertime. Her prime rib was super and she loved it. I ordered fish & chips (in Boston mind you) and it was awful. Too heavily breaded...Way too dry...Absolutely no flavor whatsoever. Ugh! Back again? Perhaps. But what Joe's do I receive. There's a lot of choices before I return.
Pretty good overall - I ordered my food and asked for two things off of my sandwich and my boyfriend asked for the same and we both got our food with those things on them. The food was also not hot - it seemed like it was sitting there. Waiter was nice but seemed a little flustered. Atmosphere was good.
Our reservation was on-time and as requested a bit out of the way...but still quite noisy. Service was timely and as we were catching up with cousins after many years, we were not rushed. A couple of glitches with gluten free but otherwise I believe everyone was happy with food and the value. Joe's has a good reputation and the expectations were met...did not disappoint. Accommodated the fact that a couple of people had travel challenges and were somewhat later than expected. We did not feel pressured in any way.
