Joe's American Bar and Grill - Boston Ratings and Reviews
As I read somewhere, Joe's has a bit of an identity problem. We sat "upstairs" - ground level where the bar is located - against the window because we like people watching. We we didn't count on was the lack of respect members of the restaurant staff have for customers, as they crowded our table to chat up with friends at adjoining tables. Other customers were okay - it was the staff that was loud and rude. I am assuming the downstairs seating area had more respectful staff, but I don't know. I must add that our specific waiter was very attentive to us.
Food itself was good, with decent portions, and the price was commensurate with the portions and quality - no complaint there.
Joe's American Bar and Grill was great. It has everything going for it including great ambiance, service and food. We have eaten hear several times now and all times have been outstanding. One person in our party had a peanut allergy and they were very thorough about delivering allergen free food to the table.
We went to Joe's prior to the Lady Gaga concert on Friday of Labor Day weekend. The hostesses knew we wanted (preferably) a seat by the window on the street-level but they couldn't promise anything as those tables were full when we walked in. We only waited 5 minutes and the hostess tracked me down at the downstairs bar with a big smile...almost as if they were as excited as we were to have the table for us! So endearing and genuine! Made our evening! Food and cocktails were great! Thank you...
We had a reservation and we were seated right away which was a nice surprise since the restaurant was busy. Everyone enjoyed there meals from a veggie burger to salads to hamburgers. An appetizer of fried calamari was shared and enjoyed by all. Service was attentive and good
It was incredible that they were able to accommodate a group of 9 on a busy Saturday. We started looking for places to eat around 2pm, and OpenTable told me they had reservations for a group our size available at 2:15. They sat us at 2:11. Unheard of on Newbury Street!
We arrived for our reservation and asked to be seated in the "outdoor" area because it was a really nice night. We were given a table right away but unfortunately there was a DJ in the bar/eating area and the music he was playing was WAY TOO LOUD! We could not converse and I felt stressed just sitting there. I decided I was not going to scream over the music so our waiter had to do an excellent job of lip reading. The DJ then thankfully left and the volume returned to a civil level. What a huge relief! We have been to Joe's many, many times and love the attentive service, great food and general atmosphere . We will be back and I hope the DJ will not be.
I got in late, around 11:30 pm. I specifically asked the hostess if I could get food. She said yes. She sat me at the bar. The bar girl was quite rude and told me the kitchen was closed. She followed by telling me the hostess doesn't know anything, because she's just the hostess. I had a drink and left to eat at Solas where the people are nicely and the food was amazing.
The tables were too close together. Our table on the patio had 4 adults. Tables on both sides of us had children who were very active (up and down, changing chairs, etc.) Our chairs were only a few inches from the chairs of the other tables -- every time a kid changed chairs or moved around we had to move to. We were in from out of town for a wedding and it just was not the pleasant/relaxed meal and conversation we hoped to share with friends.
We've come to Joe's for brunch during visits to Boston for many years, though this experience was very different from in the past. The menu is suddenly very small, and lacking in creativity or custom options (brunch). The service was very attentive, though parts of the meal seemed less than fresh.
After spending part of the day in the Boston Gardens needed a kid friendly place for an early dinner. This was prefect. Made a quick reservation online and it was a short walk from the gardens. Would definitely recommend to anyone in Boston with kids. Our server was attentive and the food good.
The appetizers are really tasty, well-priced and filling for a satisfactory lunch. The room is a bit noisier than a group of (a few days ago), 5 women sitting around a large table, would have wanted. The waitress was wonderful (I wish I could remember her name), even accommodated us with individual checks.
This is a great restaurant to meet family friends. the food was outstanding! The service was a tiny bit slow but it was a very busy Saturday afternoon and there were 10 of us. Fish and chips, lobster roll, breakfast items were all so delicious! Would totally recommend this restaurant!
Have been coming here for a long time! Food is always good although some items are a bit pricey for what they are. Sat on the "patio" area with views of Newbury Street. Only qualm with this visit was the waitress. She came to ask us if we were ready to order 5 minutes after sitting down - no thanks! She came back again after drinks were delivered when my menu was still open to ask again. Definitely good spot for people watching and good food/drinks, but don't let them rush you!
Had a great dinner at Joe's on Friday. We were in town to move my daughter into a new apartment, and were really tired. Joe's fit the bill for a nice dinner that wasn't too much fuss. Our server was good - neither too present nor too absent. The menu had a wide variety of food. Ambiance was nice - good elbow room at our table, not too noisy, lighting was calm but not dark. Had the chocolate cake for dessert - was wonderful! Overall, a great experience.
The food and overall dining service was good. Hostess and check in staff were awful. Had to "check in" with three different people and told that even though we had a reservation there was still a wait and no guarantee on a table at the time of our reservation. I had to bug the hostess several times after our reservation time to get a table.
