Joe's American Bar and Grill - Boston
Book your next event with us
It was my birthday and I said that in the reservation, we even called to ask for a birthday piece, but they forgot so we had to tell them again during dinner, which was annoying. Beside that, I really enjoyed it.
It took ten minutes for our server to acknowledge our presence. I had salmon; my wife had the chili-lime grilled chicken salad. Server seemed almost sullen, but I get that everybody has off nights sometimes. Even so, it was odd that I was asked whether I wanted a side portion or dinner portion when I added a salad to my entree (menu specifies optionally adding a $4/$5 salad), and I was surprised when she asked whether she should go ahead and clear the bread from the table before the for came. It's not like what remained was going to be used elsewhere.
Salmon was cooked (grilled) nicely, but was bland. My wife's salad reminded me of a salad bar on a plate; the ingredients were basically lumped on the plate. Mix your own, I guess. Pretty sure there was a single slice of avocado in the whole thing. The chicken was dry.
Overall, the food was ok but nothing special. The service was lacking.
It was my birthday celebration with some friends.
The staff was extremely kind, particularly appreciated as I was there with my dad who is in a wheelchair and they gave us a seat right near the door on the patio. and the food was very good too, especially the salmon!
Huge portions. Nice open air but protected. Mac and cheese delish.
Just okay food. Service was attentive but had to wait for water/drink refills and check.
The food was great and the outdoor patio area was adorable.
Pretty solid food. Kinda pricey though.
I always love Joes! I go there about once a month at least. I would recommend it to vegans/ vegetarians. I think the service can sometimes be improved upon but the food is always fantastic
The music was too loud, everything else was great: food, service, ambience, value for money. We always come to Joe’s for our big events to celebrate.
It took 40 minutes for us to get a waitress to take our drink and appetizer order. We got a manager involved and eventually got our apps comped. But then it was a solid hour to find a waitress to get us our check too.
Not the greatest service unfortunately.
Delicious food, terrific service and superb ambience.
Out server Paul was fantastic!!!
The food was great and they took extra precaution and care with my daughter’s food allergy! We could not have been happier!!!
We had a reservation for 8 for Sunday brunch for my sister’s birthday. Kind of a last-minute plan, so we were so glad to get a table on a busy holiday weekend with perfect weather. Newbury Street was so fun to stroll in afterwards - the location is perfect. The service was excellent - they even accommodated a last-minute addition to our party when someone was able to join us that morning. I would highly recommend for a family gathering.
We had an excellent experience and I highly recommend going here. We were at our daughter's college graduation and had an unforeseen accident happen to one of our relatives and ended up in the ER. We called the restaurant a couple of times to change the time of our reservation because we had a large party of out of town relatives that were celebrating with us. The staff here were not only courteous and accommodating but they remembered our situation when we called the second time and immediately said, "Absolutely no problem" They were filled with concern and smiles when we arrived. So nice ! Our meal was incredibly delicious !! And the wait staff was attentive and friendly ! This will be my go to every time I go to Boston and I highly recommend you make it yours as well.
Thank you to all of the staff - You made us feel welcome and you were so kind to our family !!
We had a great seat outside on the deck. The ambiance was perfect for one of the first sunny days of the season. The waiter was extremely helpful, and polite, and just overall perfect. The food was delicious also. Great place for a lunch meet-up.
The service was great, but the food was just okay.
The service was not good. Unfortunately it took 45 mins to get our food.
The service was excellent!
Excellent food, great atmosphere and good service.
Went with 2 kids (8 and 10). The food was good but it was outdone by the service.
Wonderful place. We got to sit near the open windows. What a perfect way to spend an afternoon in Boston!
Mediocre food and extremely slow service. Great ambiance if you sit upstairs. Also, french fries are not home fries.
Food was great, server was terrible. I went and refilled our own water and coffees, went to the bar to get and pay our check. The only thing the server did was take our order, she didn’t come back for the rest of the meal.
We eat out a lot in Boston and this was our first and last experience here. Had resv for 7 not seated til 7:25. Horrible table was unsteady and surface was sticky. Waiter was hurrying us out. Truthfully would’ve been better food anywhere. The Tuna salad came w 6 small strips of tuna and salad was marginal at best. For the money and hassle go elsewhere.
My family and I always go to Joe’s for fresh seafood and delightful ambiance. If possible, ask for one of the street side tables or enjoy your favorite cocktail at the street side bar. You can be sure that Joe’s will not disappoint.
Our waitress was attentive and sweet
Good food with nice friendly staff. Busy place that has inside and outside seating. Location was ideal to our hotel.
Joe’s provides excellent service, consistently. The wait staff is attentive, responsive, and pleasant. They do not take their customers for granted.
server was great and they were able to accommodate our party in a separate room - thank you!
Food was good, not excellent. Server was quick but seemed very preoccupied with her night.
We really enjoyed our dining experience at Joe's. The waiter was great, as was the food. If we'd had another night in Boston we would have eaten there again!
We chose Joe’s to celebrate our daughter’s college graduation with family and friends. We’ve been there plenty of times over the past 4 years because of its proximity to campus. They were very accommodating and seated us in a small side room, perfect for our group of 16. Initially, our experience was fine but mid-way through the appetizer, the fire alarm went off. It was piercing and disturbing. The waiter came in to say that it was a false alarm but that the fire department was on the way and that it could be 30 minutes or so before the alarm was reset. It was actually 20, but the piercing noise was deafening and certainly put a damper on our festivities. Although we were happy it was nothing serious, the staff only came to check on us twice and after it finally shut off, we were offered a free appetizer if we spent $25 or more on our next visit. It seems ridiculous they don’t have a silencer on their system. Our celebration was definitely dampened. That all being said, our waiter was awesome and despite the hectic atmosphere with the alarm, he got the order right and was very friendly.
Great place! Loved the atmosphere & food! Hip & fun for all ages!
Joe's is a very good local place - Food is good & service is very friendly.
Great location, good crowd, energetic.
Good menu selection. Upscale sports bar, but. It too expensive. Lots of space, very accommodating in reservation, wonderful service
Joes is a great standard on Newbury. You’ll always get a seat and you won’t have a bad meal. I love the patio for drinks and people watching on a nice day
I had the quinoa bowl which was very good. My husband had the lobster roll which he said was just ok. Service was a bit slow. Decent for a meal, but we’d most likely not return.
We were lucky and got a table downstairs and were alone for quite some time so the noise level was fine. Food and service were outstanding!
