Joe Theismann's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
The special for the evening was prime rib. We paid $30 each for two prime rib meal’s. The prime rib was almost flavorless, I have never eaten prime rib that did not have any flavor. It also was very tough to cut and full of fat and gristle. Very disappointed in the quality especially for an item that was their special for the night. My son who also ordinate was very disappointed.
We went for Thanksgiving Dinner while on a trip to the area for a Redskins football game. This was not our first experience there, and they certainly didn’t disappoint. The food was excellent as were the various drinks that we tried. The restaurant provided a very warm, relaxed ambiance for our holiday meal.
We have been going to Alexandria to visit family for years and love to take them out. Theisman's can accommodate infants to crotchety old folks with nary a hitch, even with 12 of us. Lots of options for different tastes, too. Nice wines and cocktails. Usually easy to park close (and free). Oh, ask for an appetizer of onion rings. They are not on menu, but those of us who frequent the place know they are made from scratch. Ymm.
Family traveled from North (NY) and South (Carolina), meeting in Alexandria, and chose Joe Thiesmann restaurant to celebrate Mom's 75th birthday. The reservation was easy to make, the restaurant and parking was easy to find, staff was friendly and very accommodating. Everyone enjoyed the food, the ambiance and the service. Would definitely visit again, when in the area.
Visiting Alexandria from Georgia. Excited to find this resturant. Good was beyond amazing. Server was exciting, fun and very accommodating. Discussed planning another trip just to eat here again!!
Noise level at brunch was low, noise level on the evening was fairly loud as this IS a sports bar and it a football season!! HTTR!!
I wish I could give more stars!!
I can't say enough about how wonderful our experience was at this restaurant. We went at 5:00 on a Saturday and even though we had reservations (per Google reviewer advice) there would not have been a wait. The atmosphere was upbeat and exciting while still romantic enough for date night. The food? PHENOMENAL. We had the pretzel loaf and duck spring rolls for an appetizer, the blackend ribeye and filet mignon for entree and the dulce de leche cheesecake and chocolate chip bread pudding for dessert. Every single bite was worth praising! :) haha! To top it off, our server Donna was extremely understanding when my husband, a Joe Theismann fan since the 70s, monopolized her time with questions about Joe Theismann, the merchandise for sale, how often he comes, the games, etc. She was so very sweet, kept our drinks full, food made it to the table fast, and everything was just perfect. Best date night we've had in 5 years!
Went there to watch "what else?", Notre Dame Football. I've been a big Joe Theismann Fan ever since his days at ND. So watching his alma mater at his sports bar & restaurant was a natural for me. We had great food, fast friendly service, and of course a BIG ND Victory. Just a great overall experience. And I was able to purchase a souvenir glass at a reasonable price to mark the occasion. If you are ever are in the Alexandria, VA area this place is a must stop, even if you're not a ND Fan. Big screen TV's feature other games from all over the country. And it's only a block or so from the Metro Transit. The only thing missing to make this a perfect "10" was if Joe would of been present. Oh well, maybe next time!!
Traveling through the DC area and stayed in local hotel. Needed dinner. Chose Theismann's never expecting such a delicious meal. The delivery of the courses was a problem. Bread came out very late after salads. Waited initially for drink order, then a long time for delivery of salad and then entrees came while we were still eating our salads. Very bad timing. Waiter seemed good so was it the kitchen?
Would eat there again to see if it is a persistent problem.
Theismann's has consistently good food with fair prices. Derek was our waiter and he was very attentive, but not smothering. The steak and potato soup was delicious and was what I would call "comfort food." The CAB salad was delicious and the salmon salad was perfect without cheese and dressing on the side. My business associate and I could talk and not be interrupted. It was a tasty meal with just the right touch. I highly recommend Theismann's in Old Town Alexandria.
Took two business colleagues. They had never been before. They said there food was average at best. Guess I shouldn't have recommended Joe's. I usually order the same entree over and over so mine was good as usual.
Doubt they will go back. Too bad. So much for my recommendations.
This was my second trip to this restaurant and I had a great experience: good service, good food served hot, and a pleasant dining room. I ordered the grouper sandwich because it was so delicious on my first trip and it did not disappoint. The grouper fillet was large with a crisp coating and served with a tasty slaw and grilled onion topping. The sandwich has cheese but does not need it. Fruit served on the side was fresh and sweet. My friend’s black angus burger was cooked right, seasoned well and accompanied by a basket of crisp french fries. Drinks were refilled frequently and service was the right combination of attention to detail without hovering. A perfect lunch spot.
Joe Theismann's is often "poo-pooed" by many locals since it's been around for 30 years. However, it is always consistently good with a generally great wait staff. It is a loud atmosphere unless you go mid-afternoon. Lots of bar activity and lots of televisions, but they are muted.
Never had a bad meal here. Food is served quickly. Directly across from the King Street Metro and several hotels. Great for locals and tourists. No, not five star dining, but better than your typical mid-priced national chain restaurants.
