Joe Muer Seafood - Detroit Ratings and Reviews
Although we were slightly late for our reservation, we were seated immediately. Our waiter was excellent (I find it hard to think we could have a better waiter than we had on January 3 with other family members, but we did) and he could not have been more helpful in giving us menu suggestions and getting us served as we pressured him because we had a time constraint that afternoon. Joe Muer's will always be my "go to" restaurant when I am in the Detroit area. I have been fortunate to go occasionally since I was a child, and I am now able to take my children and grandchildren!
Joe Muers Detroit is always a magnificent dining experience. I've never been disappointed. Each dining experience is fun, the staff is attentive to my needs and this time my waiter (Chris) remembered me and expressed that it was a pleasure seeing me again. That's why I will keep returning, because the staff knows the menu and are very professional toward the patrons. I Love Joe Muers Seafood Restaurant Detroit!!
I gave 5-stars for the value even though this might be the most (or close) expensive restaurant in Detroit. Personally, I think it's still a great value (perhaps the best in Detroit). The atmosphere is great, lively and fun. The staff make you feel like you're the only customer. And the food is always amazing.
My family have become regulars at Joe Muer. The food is always incredible and you can't beat the view. The ambiance is great for all occasions. The service is always exceptional. Bob stands out among the wait staff and we love talking with Miguel who is always there to help. This is our go to place for dinner, desert and plenty of drinks.
Everything was outstanding once we were seated. The food was incredible! Our only suggestion is that the management find someway to accommodate a seat waiting area. No doubt there are space restraints. My wife and I were required to stand and wait outside the doors for our 4pm dinner reservation. The restaurant didn't open until 4pm. We were a little taken aback by it.
Everything considered, we will be back.
Joe Muers has been my favorite restaurant in Detroit for many years: I always look forward to going there. The food is excellent and the staff is wonderful. I was really surprised at the food
this time. I ordered a 7lb lobster ...It was my friend's birthday and I wanted to splurge for her..The lobster must have been frozen because there were raw pieces in it as we were eating it,
I pulled out several and put them on the side of the plate. I hoped my friend didn't get any of the bad pieces and it seemed she did not. The lobster bisque was not hot and tasted like tomato soup with some lobster pieces in it. We had potatoes and spinach which were ok but not the usual quality of a Joe Muers.
It was , all in all, not the usual Muers experience.
My husband and I were very pleased with our dining experience last night. The Seared Scallops were "melt in the mouth" and the Oysters Rockefeller were perfect. The carrot cake was very moist and rich and the creme brulee was heavenly. Our server, Joseph, was very efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. All in all, a great place for dining!
This was our first time at Joe Muer. All the staff were welcoming and professional. Calvin, our waiter, was awesome, explaining all our options and making sure our experience was just the way we wanted it to be! We had a riverside booth with a view of the river and Windsor. It only got better as it got darker and the lights of Windsor lit up! Food and drinks were excellent!
I always have a great time when I go to Joe Muers. My lunch partners were very impressed.
It was their first visit.
This is the second time - among 5 or 6 visits - I've been there and thought the food preparation could have been better!
I was really wowed by the lobster corn dog and the lobster roll the first time I had them but not so much the second time. And I've had better key lime pie. I'll give them another try at a later date because it's still one of my favorite restaurants.
I have been to Joe Muer on several occasions for dinner and the food was amazing, but this was the first time I was there for lunch. Food was ok, but really not up to par with what I expected here. clams were rubbery in the chowder and the lobster roll was just mediocre. I'll still go back and give it another shot, but generally just disappointed in my meal.
We ordered the Braised short rib which was incredible and I mean incredible. It had a sprinkling of purple cabbage on top and was served over swiss char, heri coat verts, carmelized carrots and rich flavorful mashed potatoes and the rib was full of flavor and required almost no chewing. THIS IS NOW MY FAVORITE APP HERE SO FAR. We also had the beef carpaccio which was very good and had a beautiful presentation but beware if you have children that would like to try this app. My daughter enjoyed it but found the brown mustard a bit to over powering for her. Next time, I'll ask for the mustard on half of the order. For the entrees, my daughter had the Waygu New York Strip which was cooked to a perfect mid rare and the flavor and seasoning were spot on delicious. Luckily, I noticed at the last second that the steak comes with a peppercorn sauce on it and I requested it on the side. In my opinion, a steak should never come with a sauce already on it from the kitchen unless asked for. The chef takes away the diners choice to taste the steak without the sauce first and let them make the decision for themselves. It was delicious without the sauce! I had the New Zealand sea bass special served with 1 jumbo shrimp and 1 crab cake. The crab cake was typical as almost all places I go, undercooked and watery to the bite, the shrimp was overcooked and a bit tough to bite through. The sea bass however tasted like butter and lemon gave gentle birth to a fish... Simply delicious with perfect seasoning and perfectly cooked. I gave my daughter a bite and she said just what I was thinking, "tastes like butter". As our shared side, we had the potatoes daphuonaise which we had barely any room to eat but both gave a couple tastes and they were amazing. We are looking forward to the leftovers. The staff was very attentive and polite and the visit was well worth the time and money. Thanks for a great night out Joe Muer. We have been before with the whole family and will be back again.
Very nice seafood spot. Good service, food and in the know staff.
Seating was a bit of a problem. we were 30 minutes ahead of our reservation and it took 15 minutes to be seated. Overall there were dozens of open tables. Also, their were 5, yes 5 people at the hostess stand while we waited, waited and waited. Almost as if we were made to wait just because.
Celebrated my wife's birthday, the service was top notch and the food was it's usual great. (tasty) The staff was warm and accommodating we had our 5 month old granddaughter with us and they made sure all of us were taken care of. Thank you Staff for making the night a memorable one.
Our server, Glenn, was top-notch. He made a special evening even more special. He was attentive and friendly. He spent time explaining the menu and reviewing the specials. I would return to Joe Muer just to chat with Glenn. The food - superb. I had the swordfish. It was a huge portion and perfectly cooked. Also, the manager, Matt, stopped by our table. We had a lovely conversation about the food, the history of the restaurant, the wine list, the desserts...yum. The key lime pie was in my top 5 list of key lime pies. The menu and the service make Joe Muer's exceptional.
Service and ambiance was outstanding, and the food was very good. The lobster bisque soup and shrimp Ilene appetizer were delicious. However, a serving of the shrimp Ilene was only three small shrimps--quite stingy. The Dover Sole a la Meuniere could have been a bit more tasty. My date enjoyed the stuffed flounder, and it certainly was more flavorful than my fish. Skip the asparagus side dish, it was merely steamed and served plain with cold Bearnaise sauce on the side, a letdown. Overall, I would recommend.
