Joe Fortes Seafood & Chop House Ratings and Reviews
We enjoyed, yet, another amazing dining experience at Joe Fortes. The restaurant was extremely busy but a manager, Richard, helped our server and made sure we were well looked after. The meal was wonderful and we had such a great time that we made reservations to go again this weekend !!
Went with my wife for an early valentines date, and "splurged" on the $165 seafood platter for two. A few unfortunate things overall with our dinner. First off, even though we made a reservation many weeks in advance, we ended up at a 2 seater situated between the bathroom hallway (literally under an exit sign) and the bar. So lots of traffic and noise. We immediately asked to be moved to one of the open tables in a better location.
Our meal started off great. Some of the best salmon I've had, but the rest was mediocre. The muscles were fishy and Luke warm, the shrimp was under seasoned, and unfortunately the butter for our crab and lobster was cold and it took 4 times for the candle to finally stay lit in our butter warmer. At that point the lobster\crab was completely cold, and we waited and waited and finally settled on barely warm butter to dip it in, but basically it was all cold.
For such a large dish it really should have come in stages or courses, as its a lot of food, there is no way 2 people are going to get through it fast enough for it all to stay warm.
Unfortunately we had to keep flagging down our server to re-lit the candle, with took time and was frustrating.
Neither me nor my friend had been to Joe Fortes in a few months. We’ve always loved the restaurant, and after our last meal, we will definitely go back more often.
The service was awesome. Our server, Colin, was attentive, informative, nice and funny. Our food was amazing. We both went with one of Colin’s recommendations and were very happy. The resto was very busy, but we were seated in a little quieter section, where we could talk and catch up on life.
All in all, a wonderful meal and evening.
Good food. I went with my family and we each got a brunch item: chicken and waffles (mom liked it, though she couldn't finish it), turkey clubhouse (dad finished his plate) and seafood pavé (I finished it all off - there wasn't enough hollandaise personally, but otherwise, the salmon and prawns were spiced lovingly and the eggs were to die for. The parmesan potato pavé was something new and was superb).
Went back to Joe Fortes for Dine Out after several years, and was delighted to see it still held the same high standards. Service was very prompt (almost too prompt), though we never really felt rushed. Every food item, from the appetizer to the dessert, was absolutely delicious. All in all, excellent value for the price!
Our family came to joe Fortes for dine out Vancouver, we’ve been here 4 or 5 times for dine out and other occasions. The ambiance was nice and hostesses and our server did a great job. The negative points of our dinner that night was the steak and the constant asking to push in my chair. Firstly, my steak was not rare, I believe that another family memeber received that steak. (I don’t be like to send back food because 1. It’s a waste and 2. I don’t want be eating alone) Also, the steak wasn’t a tender and tasty as it has been in the past. The biggest thing that ruined the dinner was that I was asked to push in my chair 3-4 times while eating. I was already sitting very close to the table and I am not big person. Why isn’t the person behind me being asked to push in his chair? And why is the table set up there if there isn’t room to walk past? Anyway, that left a sour taste in our mouths. It didn’t just annoy me, my family also noticed and commented on it.
I had a great experience in the past. That was why I chose this restaurant to come back to, when there was Dine Out Vancouver. However, I didn't remember the customer service was not outstanding for such an awesome restaurant. Our waitress didn't seem to care, she just wanted to do the bare minimum and get us out the door. She kept addressing us as "girls". She didn't refill our drinks promptly. Even when we asked, it took a VERY long time. I understand that it was a very busy restaurant, but she didn't even seem like she wanted to be there. I would go back for the ambience and the food, but definitely not for the customer service.
Went during Dine Out Vancouver. Although we have lived in Vancouver all our lives, this was our first time there. Enjoyed the selection on the Dine out menu. Our server was very friendly and talkative. Definitely a vibrant place and we were surprised how busy it was on a week night. Suspect a lot of diners are visitors to Vancouver.
Food and Ambience of the restaurant was top notch. Service was good but just a bit slow because of the "dine out" rush. Overall, it was a great dining experience. We had front row seats for the live pianist. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.
