We found the music on a Sunday night WAY too loud. The pianist was really good but we could barely converse because of the volume. We were reluctant to take off our masks to converse as we didn't want to expel droplets into our friends' faces.
The service was slow and the food was just so-so.
Good Morning, I'm terribly sorry to hear about your dinner experience at Joe Fortes. May I please request that you email email@example.com with your phone number and an appropriate time to reach you? Kind Regards, Kelsey Wickett Assistant General Manager
For the prices that you have to pay here, the total experience was nothing great.
We went for Sunday brunch/lunch. The music being played in the restaurant was deafening! We couldn’t even hear ourselves talk.
Food was average. My seafood seafood bowl (cioppino/Portuguese fish stew) was bad. I felt that they placed some seafood pieces in the bowl and then poured some tomato fish broth over it. It was mostly cold. The fish and chips was good, after all, how wrong can you go with it. The lobster bisque was also cold.
We will not come back here again.
Always an outstanding brunch at Fortes!
Great service and delicious food. Can't wait to go back.
Our Server was amazing making the evening special for me and my daughters.
A bit rushed out and didn’t get to order dessert
Go for Happy hours. You can’t go wrong with great foods and drinks at much lower prices during 3-6pm. My seafood platter costs $38.99
Regular is at $79.99
A 50/50 Martini is only $7
15oz larger only $5
Went for Happy Hour on my birthday. Husband’s beer was served flat-twice! Changed to a different kind of beer and it was ok, just not the first choice. Truffle fries, which hubby was really looking forward too, were waaaaay overcooked. Fries were mostly orange and hollow inside. Would have liked to change for a better batch but our waiter seemed kind of scared and reluctant to deal with us after the beer we were served. Calamari was too heavily coated in some kind of thick coating. Prawn tacos were lacklustre except the prawns themselves were so heavily spiced our mouths were burning. No mention of the prawns being spicy on the menu. The only decent item we ordered was the mini shrimp and lobster rolls. Those were fresh and tasty. Seating by the window was ok but cold that day so had to keep our coats on to stay warm. All in all the experience was very disappointing. Save your money! We won’t be going back.
The service is outstanding. The atmosphere is fantastic. The food is great, but pricey for what you get. It’s always busy so having a business model of expensive food seems to work so why not.
Servers were amazing, food was delicious, social distancing in place - perfect all around and will be back for sure!
Great food and service. Happy hour is great value
I treated my friends out for lunch, and our experience wasn’t the best. My two friends ordered a steak and I ordered ling cod. We also ordered calamari which was good. My friends ordered well-done steaks, but one of the orders were made medium rare. They said that the steak was dry, and had no taste. But the staff was very friendly, and trying to make our experience the best as possible. Not happy😒
Had a great experience with the staff working there. Very attentive and diligent.
Very good! This is a great place to dine, with great food and great customer service.
We wanted seafood and Joe Fortes delivered delicious mussels in spicy broth accompanied by focaccia and a seafood bowl seasoned delicately with fennel and other spices. Environment was safely divided for COVID and efficient staff wore masks.
Excellent service and food quality, hope to come again!
October 19, 2020 Birthday lunch for my sister was completely delightful, as expected. Starting with an excellent martini, we enjoyed friendly, capable service and a very fine meal. Definitely going to make a habit of lunch at Joe Forte’s, one of a select group of Vancouver restaurants that has maintained a standard of excellence throughout their many years.
Great experience. Prompt service. We arrived there earlier than the booking time and were accommodated right away. Definitely a place to go back to.
We’ve been Joe Fortes many times, we like the food here and atmosphere as well. Glad seeing their business is better this time during pandemic that we are all suffering. The only complaint in this visit was our coffee cup waited too long to fill up from our server, we end up had to stop the receptionist who just walked by our table fill up for us.
Excellent food and service all around. Server was fabulous
Every time we go to Joe Fortes we come out saying how satisfied we are. The service is second to none and the food is top notch. Thanks to out server Matt for making the afternoon great.
Excellent food and service as always
In the fine print after you get your reservation email there is a note about a 2 hour window to eat. I never saw it, as it does not stand out, nor did anyone mention this to us when we arrived and/or sat down. This was our anniversary dinner (which they knew when we arrived). The server vaguely mentioned a 9pm cut off at 8:30pm, but we thought this was a drink cut-off due to COVID. He then turned up at 8:50pm demanding we pay the bill right then with credit machine in hand. Then, 5 minutes later (while my wife was eating her dessert and coffee drinks), he then tells us we need to clear the table as he has 9pm reservations waiting. I became very annoyed and asked to speak to a manager.
To the owner: This policy to get more people through (due to COVID) is totally wrong for a high-priced restaurant. I found the behavior of the sever having to follow this policy very rude. No one should be rushed. It totally soured our night as I have never been told to leave a table. So, if management thinks this works, I would re-think this plan. You are not supporting those who support you by still coming out. Now I have no desire to ever return. These actions do not help support your business in the future as you just lost customers.
Very fresh seafood and overall meals were of a good standard
We were at Joe’s for happy hour. Fabulous value! Servers were excellent- professional and attentive but not cloying.
Amazing restaurant as always. Very good COVID measures in place. Diners however are limited to a 2-hour dining window in which to finish their service.
Went there for a friend’s birthday and specified the occasion was for a friend’s birthday. Ambience was great, later in the evening and food was great. We started off with the Kuushi oysters and had the seafood linguine and the salmon Wellington.
4.5/5 - FOOD. Food was good, very well seasoned and was fresh.
2/5 - SERVICE. Our server set down the lobster oil and said the bread was coming. 10 mins after she took the lobster oil away and we were still waiting for our bread because the food took about 30 mins to come. Had to wave our server down for the bread and she just laughed about it.
There was no complimentary cake or anything for my friend’s birthday which was disappointing but we felt like a bother to our server for asking for our bread. Would expect better service for paying for a $350+ meal.
Excellent service! Our server (asian man) was so accomodating. One of my friends did not like seafood and just came along with us and the server let us know non seafood options. He even brought out some butter for my friend for his bread because he did not like the lobster oil!
A Vancouver go to for any occasion or a special occasion. Servers are knowledgeable regarding the food and drinks. Top shelf all the way.
Great dinner! Our waiter was fantastic! Will be back
I had a birthday dessert from here!!! Such a surprised experience and so nice of you!!
Service was outstanding🙌🏽. Best food ive ever had in a restaurant
We sat on the patio for thanksgiving dinner and there were at least 5 mice running around.
Our waiter was very attentive and helpful. Had a pleasant first experience.
Amazing server Corina made the evening. Many thanks!
Great food and wine selection - We don't eat as large portions as we used to so it was very much appreciated when we were able to enjoy smaller portions of their wedge salad and chowder and before our entrees. We decided to have their salmon special for the evening and while many seafood restaurants tend to overcook it, Joe Fortes was spot on..medium rare and very moist. The portions were substantial but left us room for dessert. I had their carrot cake in the past and it is still one my favorites...though we did need a box to take some home afterwards. Definitely worth a repeat visit the next time we're in Vancouver as there were some many delightful looking items on the menu to try.
Very good selection of seafood dishes, well prepared and savory. Great attentive service by waiters and support staff. we all enjoyed the live piano background music suitable and tastefull to most. I would stronger recommend a dining experienc at Joe Fortes.
We were early for our 6pm reservation on Oct 11 to celebrate our anniversary. I believe we sat at table 5. We started out with a waiter that didn't seem that interested in us. 30 minutes in he said another server would be looking after us and left, i assume his shift ended. Thankfully the person that picked us up did an outstanding job and turned what started out as a less than normal JF experience into a great evening. I think her name was Heather...well done!!
