Please note that we begin taking reservations 7 days in advance starting at midnight online and at 11 a.m. over the phone.
Parties of 6 or more must call the restaurant directly.
Due to the high volume of reservations we receive for pre- and post-theater, we can only guarantee a table for a maximum of two hours. If you would like more time, please contact the restaurant directly to make your reservation.
Always a great evening.
Was there after a performance at Feinstein’s/54 Below so there was a lull at the restaurant since most shows were still performing. It was quiet and relaxing. Our server Reed was very attentive and sweet. From the moment we walked in the door we were treated well. We miss the meatloaf! Hopefully it will come back. Food and desserts were plentiful. Look forward to returning.
Delicious burger and Manhattan
I got there at 4:50 for a 5 o’clock reservation. The waiter immediately get me a drink, which I appreciated. Then he took my order. And I was served my steak at 4:59. It all felt a little rushed! The drink and fries were good. The steak only so-so. If you were looking for a quick meal before a play, I wouldn’t make my reservation more than an hour and a half in advance
one of us had the soup (carrot) and pasta and was very pleased. the rest of us had the liver and it was really, really disappointing,
We had a great meal! Service (Nicole) was very nice and extremely capable. I'd like to come back just for the bar and the ambiance. Great drinks
Mainstay on Broadway. A theatre experience
Great theater pick. Good food which is well prepared by friendly and attentive staff
I’ve been going to pre-theatre lunch and dinners at Joe Allen for about 40 years! It was always one of my favorite restaurants in NYC! We had our usual 1:30 reservation on Sunday where the 3 of us were looking forward to their signature salad - the LaScala! We were told that at 2pm it was still brunch (were they kidding? 2:00?) and therefore we coukd not order our favorite salad. Instead we ordered some sort of chicken salad (the only interesting thing on the trimmed down menu!) that was inedible and which we washed down with $13 glasses of house wine! Yes! $13 for “house wine”! So sad to see this decline. Next show will have to begin at a new restaurant!
Perfect before the theatre. Michael was a great waiter.
All wonderful except that they removed steak tartare and crab cakes from menu.
Hope they come back!
Food was well-cooked, service was a little sloppy ( one guest’s plates were cleared while other guest was still eating).
Joe Allen is by far our favorite pre-theatre spot for lunch. Always, great service and food. A local gem!
Always a fun place, Joe Allen has still got it. Very festive atmosphere and the liver is great. So is the chicken!
My husband and I stopped here for lunch before our matinee show. Despite showing up early for our reservation we were seated immediately and greeted by our server quickly. The speed of service is great for a pre-show stop - the employees work together like a well-oiled machine. We tried the chicken and shrimp salads and both were delicious. Highly recommended for those who need a quick, yummy stop before or after a show.
Love Joe Allen’s always try to go at least once when in NYC.
Awesome waitress plus bartender fabulous
Dining at Joe Allen’s did not disappoint. Dinner was tasty and enjoyable.
Great service, delicious food and wonderful ambiance. A NY treasure!
Perfect pre theatre venue. Cosy, great food, super service, all delivered rapidly so theatre was easily reached in time for the show. Very good value.
I took my 14 year old grandson for dinner. The food was good, and he definitely enjoyed the fudge cake dessert. We had a very small table which felt crowded. The diners at the table next to us were really loud so our conversation was difficult. When they left it was better.
Joe Allen is dependable, very good service and good value.
As always, everything was top notch!!!
We had a wonderful dining experience. The staff was very friendly. Really enjoyed the New York strip steak cooked to perfection. Love the Caesar salad’s.
Good spot after a show. Service was friendly and good. My husband and I shared the fried artichokes, very good then we shared the steak with fries and buttery red wine reduction. The meat was very tasty though a tad overcooked past the medium rare we ordered. We ate the entire portion and could not get enough of the reduction sauce. We shared a bottle of Bordeaux that was just ok but for $46 what would I expect. We topped off the meal with a large slice of Banana Cream pie that was excellent. The crust was crusty and perfect. We really enjoyed everything. Nice job!
As a theater-goer, I'm always happy to be at Joe Allen's. You get to be part of the theater scene, and to enjoy good food and friendly, professional service at the same time. I've been enjoying the experience for years!
Joe Allen never disappoints. Warm atmosphere for pre-theater dining. Delicious lunch. Our server was excellent.
Always an excellent experience with a New York visit.
Ask for K C. Terrific waiter
Got the feeling there was a time limit. Felt very rushed. Food was ok. Wedge salad was tasteless. Bronzino was very good. Much better restaurants on Restaurant Row.
A nice NYC gem. Very good food and service. Conveniently located in restaurant row in the theater district.
It was a great experience. Tight quarters, but very comfortable. Servers were fantastic- attentive and great senses of humour. Good comfort food. Recommended.
Disappointed that the LaScala salad is no longer on the menu. New menu is not interesting.
Great food and very accommodating
Wonderful ambiance, amazing food and service. Loved it.
The atmosphere was wonderful. Love the old theater posters on the wall. Very courteous and attentive waiters who did a great job getting us out in time for our play. Food was excellent. I recommend for a true New York style experience.
Loved, as always. The greatest. And Will, at the front is pure gold! Thank you!!
Excellent service, OK food
Joe Allen is always perfect. Always was, always will be.
Cozy, warm atmosphere, old time NYC. Nice to dine in a restaurant where the music is not blaring at lunch time and you can actually talk to the person you are lunching with. My food was delicious, the shrimp and scallops sauté. My friend had the strip steak, and said it was the best she had in a long time.
