Since 1965, Joe Allen has been a quintessential New York restaurant serving a classic American menu in the heart of the Theater District. Just two blocks from Times Square, it has been a favorite of Broadway performers, locals, and tourists for almost 50 years.
Please note that we begin taking reservations 7 days in advance starting at midnight online and at 11 a.m. over the phone.
Parties of 6 or more should call the restaurant directly.
Due to the high volume of reservations we receive for pre- and post-theater, we can only guarantee a table for a maximum of two hours. If you would like more time, please contact the restaurant directly to make your reservation.
Nice wait staff and good food. We got to see a little of the first set of music. Only bummer was they had some electrical issues so no lights on bathrooms and we had to pay cash, which was inconvenient, for them too I’m sure
Kitchen was under construction so they had a limited menu. Restaurant/Open table should have informed us.
Old timey place but food was good, and you could actually talk and hear your tablemates!
I like WARM chicken, NOT room temperature chicken in my salad.
A very non-vegetarian friendly restaurant. Not a single vegetarian item on the entree menu. If you are a vegetarian or a vegan stay away.
Nice and easy to enjoy. A main stay. Good food fair price. I have been going here for decades. Great atmosphere. Posters of Broadway flops. They have been doing it since the 70s. Good burgers and chicken.
There's a limited menu because of some issues in the kitchen, but everyone enjoyed what they ordered.
Fun spot before a Broadway show. Lots of charm and ambiance.
Late afternoon dining- limited menu due to work being done in kitchen. What we had was quite good snd service was excellent.
Will return again!
Unfortunately Joe Allen had a limited menu due to kitchen repairs so we didn’t get the full Joe Allen experience. It is a good location for dinner before a Broadway show!
Tons of places make hamburgers and Caesar salads...badly. Joe Allen's makes them superbly. Their menu is simple, classic and excellent.
Always like to bring out of town friends to Joe Allen. The kitchen was having some problems so things seemed a little less than normal. But the excellent savignon blanc went down quite well. Our young waiter was also very nice.
The menu was missing a few favorites, because they’re upgrading the kitchen,,,but what we ordered was as delish as always
Menu was very limited. I think the kitchen is under renovation and perhaps that's the reason why there was not much to choose from. I was disappointed. Been there before and it was better. Guess I'll have to give it another chance.
Very nice atmosphere, good food, great service ... could have used a bit of background music
In spite of their temporary limited menu, it was terrific, as always!
Fantastic! Amazing waiter who made the experience really great
I love Joe Allen and have for many years. For a burger or after theater omelet it is fine. The problem is that for the time being there seems to be a utility problem and the menu is truncated. Less choice, less ability to improvise slightly off the limited menu. I don't know what the problem is and when the utility company will allow them to relight all the ovens, and they don't either. So check the menu before you go. See if there is something on it that you want. If so, go. I'll give it back a couple more stars when they are in full operation again.
Loved it as always!!!
Booked online. Was not notified that the menu was limited due to kitchen refurbishment. Not many diners in on a Thursday night at 8pm but not a reason to whip away your 1st course plates whilst still chewing and put your mains down straight after. Didn’t like the service (or the menu) so decided to have pudding back at our hotel. In and out in less than an hour!
I'm never disappointed at Joe Allen's. I've been dining there since the 70's!
Consistently good food, always accommodating, great choice for before theater!
Very good food with what they were limited with due to no gas line. Will return when the gas line is repaired.
Good experience, food was good and we had plenty of time to get to our show. Menu was limited because of the gas leak next door, shouldn’t stop anyone from a solid meal on restaurant row in nyc at anytimr
I wish it had been indicated that they had a very limited menu due to a gas line problem before I booked it. I had guests in town and it was a bit embarrassing.
Joe Allen is a post-theatre classic! I love coming in for dinner and a cocktail after a show. The food is good and the service is wonderful. As of this review they are undergoing some kitchen remodeling, so they have a limited menu available, but I do recommend having a meal here. Make sure to have a look at the walls.
Kitchen under repair very poor menu selection and not very well done
Service was amazing.
We had a very good experience at joe Allen. The only down side was there was some utility work that effected their kitchen. They weren’t able to make some of their regular dishes-the meatloaf was unavailable but our meal was great. The shrimp cocktail was outstanding!
The dining experience at Joe Allen’s is always a good one. The wait staff is personable, the drinks are well mixed, the food is good, and the ambience is fine. It’s a top choice for dining and/or drinks in the theater district.
Awesome burger after a show. Will return when the kitchen gas is restored.
After theater seating - good spot on 46th St. Very good value in a late night dinner/snack. We always book Joe Allen’s either before or after the theater. With lots of NYC choices, this is among the best.
Sad that kitchen wasn’t serving the entire menu
Ive been going there since the 70's! Always good food and service and so convenient . Needs a few new posters.
Just okay food but great service
They are doing kitchen renovations which limited their already limited menu. But I do appreciate the phone call in advance to let me know.
I was disappointed in that the dinner menu was severely truncated due to the fact that their kitchen is in the process of being renovated and there was no gas. This meant that almost all the menu items were restricted to cold or panini type sandwiches; so, no steak, no meatloaf, etc. If I would have known that they were not serving their full menu, I would have chosen a different restaurant. Paying over 25 for an entree and getting served potato chips is disappointing to say the least. I would avoid going here for anything other than drinks until they fix their kitchen.
Joe Allen came recommended by a friend. the location fit in perfectly with our plans, so we decided to give it try. The restaurant did warn of us their limited menu, but we thought it would be all right to try it anyway. While most of the food was good - the potato chips that came with the burger were stale, but the guacamole and steamed shrimp were really good and the quiche was great -and the ambiance was really great, the service was sub-par. We notified our server that one of our party was a vegetarian, and asked if we could get mashed potatoes as a side to go with a salad. Mashed potatoes were offered with the roasted chicken. The kitchen refused to send out a side of mashed potatoes. Upon serving the wine and the bread & butter, the waitress indicated they had a 'pour your own' policy and that they 'didn't give bread plates'. We obviously noticed that other diners HAD bread plates AND servers were pouring wine for others. An 20% gratuity was included in the check, so poor service or not, we got charged. So, location and ambiance were great, food was mostly good, we got stuck with poor service.
